Correct, although you could call to ask, when I asked it was a big no.
Which is a HUGE bummer for my dtr who had great grades this first semester!
You have to select the school you want to receive the updates.
Great stats. It is a buzz kill for sure! My son applied to all these same schools. UVA was his #1/ED choice. Didn’t get into that or UT with a 1460/3.7, lots of good ECs & 140 service hours but that was expected. Hoping to hear good news from Clemson but also excited about Auburn! Good luck.
I saw that Clemson offered January (spring) admit to some a few years ago…in my research on here…I had not heard of that before, had anyone else? Clemson is a REACH for my dtr.
Me too!!
My son actually did January/Spring Admit at The University of Miami - if it’s offered and they really want to go to that school - it’s a great option. Seamless transition - we moved him into an apartment near campus in the Fall so he could work and meet other kids until classes began - it was a fine option. Something to consider for sure.
Great to hear! You could find an apartment for those 3-4 months? I would definitely consider it if my dtr would.
Miami has a terrible housing situation, so being a spring admit we didn’t even bother applying for housing and just got him the apartment for the year - he met a roommate via Instagram who was also a spring admit (they’re still roommates 2 years later). It can work out very well - initially of course he didn’t love the idea of starting in January but it was his “dream school” so took what they gave him. Honestly, the fall went so fast and he felt part of the school immediately and would do it again.
Great for your son, and thank you so much for sharing! I’m totally willing to think outside the box!
what is terrible about the housing situation? not enuf housing options for the number of students enrolled?
Clemson probably could have some January admits. there are enough that don’t come back after fall semester to make it a viable option. Around 8% don’t make it through the first year. Seems like they could fill those empty dorm rooms with some Spring admissions.
Yes, not enough housing, the nice dorms get taken very quickly. They have built a new dorm ready for this Fall I believe, which is beautiful. Unfortunately, Miami is very expensive so off campus living is a fortune.
Clemson has about half the dorms new or updated.
The dorm sections are based on when you submitted your application… Aug 1 was the first day. The “core” dorms closest to the stadium Gressett, Mccabe, Holmes(suites) each house approx 250 beds each are quickly gone to those Aug applicants.
If your Tiger can find a roomate with an August submit date, that would be the best case scenario for options.
Mickel is newish Is for the RISE students and LLC as well as
Deschamps is for Honor students and LLC
Shoebox quad is old but a favorite among students. I went in those and honestly they are not that bad just typical cinderblock style rooms like I remember in college. They all had a nice large window and AC
The Three High rises are being remodeled one at a time
Currently "Manning " is closed for renovations. The other two are open
Apparently the Overflow will go to “calhoun Courts apartments” on the periphery of campus ??!
Douthit east was the prettiest with a gym and dining hall is is the newest . I believe house approx 750 students.
They also go pretty quickly. Students seem to think Douthit is FAR but it all of Clemson seems very walkable. Im comparing this to schools like VT which are very spread out,
Also, Douthit West is apartment style for sophmores… I believe they have the pool! They are nice too…went in those as well!
We did speak to some girls living Shoebox who gave my daughter a “tour” Both of them submitted applications around October 15, the deadline. They said most of the students wanted to come hang out in shoebox because it was the friendliest and most fun and close to football and dining! when I went in to shoebox , a lot of the doors were open and kids mingling and socializing…they all said they Loved it!
In the grand scheme of things…with all the breaks, freshman year flies by! Its probably best to spend the time researching apartments! Second semester my daughter at JMU started looking for apartments. Don’t be too worried if the dorm is not your kids first choice…The weather is mild and kids spend a lot of time outside!
My daughter will be a freshman and I will say I loved the newness of Douthit but she actually liked the vibe at Shobox after talking with the girls there.
Hope this helps…Its all so confusing!
Thank you for all of your information! Hopefully the deferral will become an acceptance and we can move forward
This was so helpful, Thank You! My daughter originally like the shoeboxes when we visited the first time. The second time everyone that we had talked to said go to Manning. I guess that is out. Hoping our deferral becomes an acceptance as well.
This was so helpful…and I love that there are other parents like me that are planning while not knowing! I have already looked at first day of school/orientation, etc so I can plan August! All while keeping my fingers crossed…good luck to you all!
Best of luck to everyone as well! Maybe we’ll all meet on campus one day
We asked that and was told No. We did not them in the letter of interest though
Good luck to your daughter. My daughter was differed and it was hard to take but she got EA and Virginia Tech the very next week in December with the early batch they released. She also got Honors. She is wondering if her chances are good to get Clemson but we aren’t holding our breath. She is hoping for a welcome to clemson email but Va Tech is a great fall back.
