33 Act
Lots of EC’s that were consistent
good essays and letters of rec’s (including one from congressman)
Top 10 % ranking
half puerto rican half venezuelan

This is absolutely rediculous, this must be racist- im definetly appealing this decision cause the last thing i want is to end up in like American U or another school like that.

Hold up. Ask your GC. I know this is disappointing, espec when you expressed it was your first (or second?hm…) choice by applying ED-2.
They deferred you, they didn’t reject you. Who knows what they’re looking at comparatively on their desks right now? What if they intend to accept you by April? I think it may be too early to “appeal a decision” since this isn’t the final, final answer from Tufts. (Maybe you meant you’d appeal it if you don’t get in on the April.)

I mean i guess ur right- i was just really kinda shocked and this was the one school i was really looking for- i think my numbers and all of my outside stuff were good- i just hope i wont be appealing in april- i really hope cause this is rediculous.

if you could clarify your stats, that would be helpful:

from a Ninjaman chances post:
Russian male- moved to america 4 years ago.
New York/public school
Ranked No.4/495
SAT- 800 Math, 780 Verbal, 700 Writing (11 essay)- i hope they dont look at writing
SAT II- 800 Math I, 800 Math II,…

I don’t see how the deferral is racist. If you are really #4 out of 495 in your school, Tufts is quite notorious for deferring students that may be applying there as a safety school.

I guess it is possible to be half-puerto rican, half-venezuelan through your parents, and also be a Russian by place of birth.

chocoholic: “Tufts is quite notorious for deferring students that may be applying there as a safety school.” <— this is widely accepted as being true maybe 20 years ago, but not true any longer as Tufts’ academic quality/reputation/students today match Cornell’s, Northwestern’s, Georgetown’s, Johns Hopkins’, etc.

And he applied EARLY DECISION II which means it was binding and he was saying it’s his first-choice. Goes to show that Tufts is a lot harder to get into than you uninformed people love to say it is.

This is unrelated but lolabelle, Tufts is not as well reputed as Cornell, Northwesterr, or Gtown. Not to say it isn’t just as challenging a school, but its prestige/reputation is not on par with these other schools, at least I think.

The whole “Tufts Syndrome” thing is a myth…as someone who is quite familiar with their process, I can tell you that they do not deny kids they think will not come…demonstrated interest has nothing to do with their admissions decisions, nor does a student’s potential yield-ability (I think I just made the word up, but you know what I’m getting at).
