Deferred U Mich Ann Arbor Class of 2021

Waitlisted. I’m thinking of declining since there is a 2% waitlist acceptance rate right? And I can give other people a chance. What do you guys think? Anyway, this sucks but now the wait is finally over. I can start making college plans and relax. Congrats to everyone who got in! For those rejected or waitlisted, be proud that you can actually apply to an elite college. You guys are qualified as well, but there is just too much competition. It’s been nice to share this experience with you guys. Also remember if you got rejected, and U of M is your dream school, you can always transfer after 2 years with great grades.

anyone know when financial aid comes out?

@UofM99 that was exactly my line of thinking when I declined the waitlist! The two colleges I’m considering now are good schools and I don’t think I could handle not knowing where I’m going until mid-June. It wouldn’t be a financial possibility either since I wouldn’t receive any merit scholarships and most likely wouldn’t get any need-based aid.

if your family income is between $60-70k per year are you supposed to get financial aid through the fafsa?? i only get offers for loans (direct and non direct stanford loan) (as well as a scholarship) but no grants??? yes i know this isn’t a financial aid thread but curious

what do you mean? My financial aid has a grant from umich, a scholarship from umich, and a work study. I believe that if you receive a grant from the fafsa, it would be the pell grant which you most likely don’t qualify for. Umich gives out grants. Keep in mind your aid package will most likely be revised @uofmfan

huge LAST lot of admissions out midnight april 6th or before let’s gooo!!! so happy  (obviously there will be a couple exceptions don’t come at me)

@uofmfan how do you know for sure??

@kourtorder when did you receive your acceptance AND financial aid package?

@besteffort123 acceptance was back in December, financial aid was January and then march.
The financial aid for everyone will be out by may 1st at the latest, since that’s the day you have to commit

@MichiganDad22 Sage advice indeed. My son applied to U of M because I’m an alum (MBA). It wasn’t the right fit for him and we both knew it. But he tried (and got dinged). But he got into the other 6 schools to which he applied and I’m proud of him and thrilled for him. And look out McGill or BU…one of you is going to get a great kid soon!

for any deferred people still waiting, i just checked the portal and my view decision link is gone! also a friend of mine heard back this afternoon

My S heard a few days ago. He is OOS COE and he was wait listed. 32 ACT 3.92 UW GPA taking 5 APs this semester. He sort of smiled and said “gave it my best shot and if they don’t want me I’m good with that”. He took a look at the posts here and figured there are students whose dream is to attend UM. He really wanted to go, but not his “dream” so he turned down the wait list. If it makes it easier for one of you, then he figures its worth it (and I agree!). Good luck to all of you.

Anyone who was accepted this past week get their financial aid yet?

My view decision link is still there… I’m on spring break but this is the only thing on my mind. Almost half a year waiting for an answer from this university I’m sick

@uofmfan you should call. I think it’s a mistake that you didn’t hear yet. I called and heard that afternoon. Not sure if calling pissed them off though lol I got waitlisted

Wait who should I call? I got deferred in December and I still haven’t heard back

@Thdnshsns you can call the admissions office but they’d probably give the same reply “all decisions will be out by mid april” according to last year’s trend we should see the remaining admissions out between april 6th-8th, and the few left after that to be out by april 15th. if it’s later than that then…i don’t even know.

They told me if you’re EA you will hear sometime this week. Also, check your email because I got an email but nothing on the portal.

@wannabewolverine i didn’t get an e-mail + nothing on the portal. what did your e-mail say? did u get in

@uofmfan I got waitlisted. The email looked like this:
We have completed a final individualized and comprehensive review of your University of Michigan application and all supporting documents. While you have many impressive qualities, we regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you a place in the School of Kinesiology for Fall 2017.

We recognize this is disappointing, perhaps particularly so because of your family ties with the University. We hope that you and your family will understand that our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. We are also seeing more applications from families of our more than 575,000 living alumni around the world.

More stuff in the middle saying that I should accept my admission into another university for now and that if I want to transfer in two years I can reapply.

At the end there was a paragraph saying this:
Meanwhile, we occasionally admit a small number of applicants before the end of June from our waitlist. Please notify us of your intentions to accept or decline this waitlist offer before May 1, 2017.
