Deferred U Mich Ann Arbor Class of 2021

@TheShortSon That’s awesome!!! When did u get your acceptance

@TheShortSon Congratulations. When did you get the acceptance email. I am so anxious to hear back…

@ivanl6 @scubadiverman On Thursday at 8 am!

That’s awesome @TheShortSon . I didn’t even though they were sending out acceptances right now. I thought it was only late march- early April. Definitely made me more anxious.

For what it’s worth, my D got in on 2/9 after being deferred. In-state. 31 ACT, 3.89 UW GPA, I have no idea what her weighted GPA is. 7 APs, which is pretty much the most she could take at her large in-state public (rural) school. Legacy. She sent a very good, but not super lengthy, LOCI, directly to her regional admissions counselor after being deferred at EA. Her high school counselor was also very helpful, sending a second impactful (but not super lengthy) e-mail of support to the regional admissions counselor. Her high school counselor also sent the 7 semester grades (which were all As on a tough schedule) directly to the admission counselor. We are all happy she got in (she is definitely going to Michigan), but getting deferred opened other doors as well. She applied to schools she wouldn’t have otherwise, and realized that there are many opportunities out there for motivated students. Good luck to you all, I hope you get in to where you want to go.

Ok so I would say I am a really strong applicant, but I am out of state and was deferred early action (as was every one else in my town as far as I know). I emailed a strong letter of continued interest to my regional counselor elaborating on why Michigan is a great fit for me, and I for the university. After sending it I immediately got an automatic response saying my regional counselor was out of the office. I never received a response from him after that, so I’m not even sure he saw it. I honestly kind of expected to be admitted in this past round of decisions, not to be cocky, but I am above average for all of their statistics, and have good activities and essays. I know for UMich, and especially for out of state students, these LoCI can be very important, could this be the reason I was still not admitted? If so is there anything I can do to help myself?

@enginero I am out of state applicant from Texas. Also, I’m Asian Indian (even harder for me). I was deferred EA and I sent a generic LOCI to the regional ad com. She replied a week back with a generic response. I didn’t even send my mid year grades. I was accepted last Thursday. Honestly, there is nothing more to do. I also sent updated test scores, but I sent them like a week before, so I highly doubt they were considered for my admission. Just hang tight!!!

@TheShortSon What part of Texas? I’m from San Antonio

Is wolverine access not working for someone else…?

@jeepcherokee it’s closed

@ivanl6 I am from Dallas.

any deferred international applicant got accepted recently?

@rangersfan800 I think a 1950 is a 29

Wolverine is back up…they update over the weekend.

when can we expect the next wave

I know this isn’t really the place for this, but I (like many here) am very worried. I really want to go here, but I have some concerns. What would anyone here say my chances are? I was deferred EA, have great essays (had a wonderful English teacher help me with them for weeks), great letters of recommendation, and great EC’s (President of a club, long time musician with many awards to show, lots of community involvement, sports, NHS, etc. I think my UMich gpa would be 3.98 (I only received a B+ in IB Bio Higher Level), I am rank 17 of 350, and I have an ACT of 33 and an SAT of 1440. I applied to CoE. I have a (relatively) weak curriculum though. I have taken about 8 credits of music classes in high school, only have 3 AP classes (out of maybe 20 offered at my school), one IB Higher Level, and about 4 honors classes. Everything else has just been basic high school courses. I am also in state, have sent a letter of continued interest, and have been in pretty constant contact with my admissions counselor. I am just really worried that I haven’t been among the acceptances yet :frowning:

@Tyzs13 Yo, all my stats are worse than yours and I am Asian Indian from Texas. I only sent my letter of continued interest and no mid year grades. I was accepted last Thursday after being deferred EA. Honestly, there isn’t much more you can do. You may have a chance though since you have good stats and sent a letter of continued interest.

@Tyzs13 However, the “weak” curriculum may not be in your favor. I have taken 18 AP classes.

Michigan admissions are honestly so weird. Don’t try and analyze it…its very subjective and odd and I can’t figure out how they do it. My friend got rejected here and into stanford last year. Go figure

Any idea when the next wave should be?
