Deferred U Mich Ann Arbor Class of 2021

@collegemama2017 Also, Michigan means so much to a bunch of kids (including myself). For some kids, it’s just another 3 essays and a couple button presses on the Common App, but for others, it’s so much more than a school. The obsession is not purposeless; Michigan is my mother’s school, my aunts’ and uncles’ school, my cousins’ school, and hopefully my school. There’s honor, acceptance, and respect contingent on receiving an acceptance letter from the school. I agree that it’s heartbreaking, but (as the great Aretha Franklin once said) that’s life.

Yes, my sons lifelong dream. Eats, sleeps, breathes Maize and Blue. The punch in the stomach in December was tough. Dreading tomorrow’s visit, but keeping a great game face on for him. And I will be there for him whether it’s joy or heartbreak…just tired of picking up the pieces. He is overlooking an amazing scholarship at this point, holding out hope for another decision from Michigan.

@Collegemama2017 Aw, you seem like a great mother.

Hope is not such a bad thing…here’s to all our success…soon!!!

@collegemama2017 I am in the same boat as your son scores and all! I have a really good scholarship next door at EMU Honors but if I get into UMich I will probably go there still bc it’s my dream and i grew up visiting campus and visited “for real” in october. I also have always dreamed of it and really hope that I am not holding off on something better just because of this prolonged, ridiculous wait!

@calirain I was also requested for the HAIL interview

@Collegemama2017 I completely empathize with you. This has been a tough process to watch. I grew up and attended college on the East Coast but attended Michigan for my MBA. I learned first hand about families and kids that bleed maize and blue. Michigan is such a fabulous place it is easy to understand why. We’ve been fortunate that my son had three top schools and got into one (McGill) about three weeks ago. He was deferred from his other two top schools (one of which is Michigan) in December. It was a tough few weeks for him until he got his McGill acceptance.

Hoping for a great outcome for your son…sounds like a great kid. Stay positive mom!

Reading all the passions about the college by students, mothers and dads…really feeling fortunate and blessed about the accceptance. Huge wildlife lover… the essay had the urge to visit the museum inside michigan… thnx michigan and thnx all the lovely ppl outa here…

@Collegemama2017 I feel your pain. My daughter applied ED to Duke (my husband’s alma mater) and was flat out denied. It was a hard few days. She has been talking about going to Duke since she was 6 years old. The silver lining is that she had no choice but to move on. She has now been accepted at awesome schools (and probably better fits). This process has been so stressful for me (but hopefully she did not notice the level of my anxiety). Keep on being supportive and I wish your son the best!!

Hey @Collegemama2017 tell us about how the visit went! I am curious if the tour guides had any behind the scenes information for all of us acceptance-deprived-kids. Also, great weekend to come to Ann Arbor. The weather has been terrific and cozy!

We’re back! Visit was great, a beautiful day on campus. I definitely think a tour should take place junior year, not senior year, let alone after sending your application in. With our deferred status, we had a slightly different outlook than the other kids there. Difficult to get excited! Lots of things on my mind right now…now just a waiting game. I am trying to get over myself, since it’s not about me, lol–but I can’t help the bitterness. It’s easy to start over thinking everything-did we do this right, that right…never thought he would not get accepted. That was never a concern, and here we are.

So bummed you didn’t feel what we all felt. He’ll get in…have faith…don’t let him see you down. I just went a few months ago prior to deferral…I knew it would be tough let me tell you it doesn’t make it any easier. Be excited for him…keep it positive, we all just get one senior year and I plan on making it awesome…oh yeah I’m stressed in case you were wondering… =)) @-)

Has anyone hit the point of wishing their family was a huge donor to Mich so we could’ve been accepted by now?? :))

@c011e9e I know someone who is and they’re still deferred which must really suck lol

Why do you want to goto UMich? For me, it’s the Ross BBA program and Wall Street recruiting.

@TheShortSon Why are you still on this thread?

@UofMorMSU because I am waiting to hear back from Ross.

@TheShortSon, you already got in. This is for people that have not heard anything good yet. Buzz off and make a thread on the topic. Stop baiting us; it is kind of rude.

nerve-racking

@UofMichigan1999 - Stop feeding the tr*ll man. It obviously gets off on it. Just ignore it and like most things starved for attention, it will eventually go away and bother something else.
