I’ve pretty much taken the most rigorous courses offered (a lot of honors, 6 APs total). The only B I’ve gotten before this year was an 88 in Physics. I got great feedback on all of my essays.

Spanish teacher rec - VERY good
APUSH teacher rec - probably very good

Extras I sent in after deferral:
Creative piece I did for English this year + letter to a dean of admission
Dance teacher rec - probably very good
Club advisor/Spanish teacher rec - very good
My aunt/Vanderbilt department head rec - very good (and don’t lecture me on this one because I thought it through; I don’t think it can hurt)

I want to major in either linguistics, Spanish, int’l economics, or int’l relations.

I was an oos and accepted after being deferred. From what I can tell, is that deferees have to have ridiculously good stats to get in off the RD. I know it doesn’t make much sense because you’d figure if you had ridiculously good stats you would have gotten in…but from what I can tell is that they always accept more than they plan on ED and everyone else who should get in is S.O.L. I also have a feeling that deferees get shoved to the bottem of the RD pile. (chances arn’t good)

Honestly, I don’t think you have a great chance of getting in. You’ve got B’s. You’ve sent a bunch of stuff in and thats good. Call admissions a few times. But other than that, its really out of your hands.

Alternatively, you could donate $1,000,000 to the school. That’ll get you in.

everyone on this site thinks they know everything about everything. im sure most of the kids lie on here about their stats. My advice is write a letter of intent saying why uva is the school for you and think positively. Dont listen to anyone who tells you you cant do something. Afterall your stats are very impressive and you seem to be well rounded. good luck i was deferred as well.

Geez, maharaj, you are as obnoxious as they come. I’m pretty sure that most people here DON’T lie about stats - i sure didn’t - what would the point be in doing so? people here don’t “think they know everything,” but many here have been through the whole process and know a good bit more than you do.

samedi, after being deferred, chances drop significantly, but you’re definitely still in contention. Your numbers and credentials are strong, but, at this point, you need to continue to show interest. Write a letter explaining that UVA is still your top choice and that you’ll go if accepted. Also, include any new information (awards, test scores, etc) that might be relevant. Whatever the outcome is, i’m sure you’ll get into more than a few great schools. Good luck!

I did write a letter and sent it along with extra recs and a graded creative piece from this year. Hopefully it will have an effect; I explained that I wasn’t deterred by deferral and that UVa will always be my #1.
