We saw the movie last night and it’s cute. It was fun to see all of the characters back together again. Definitely in some areas it looked like they were trying too hard and it was a bit too much.
Toulah and Ians daughter is now a high school senior. We find out in one scene she is applying to Northwestern and then schools in NY, Texas, Alabama and Florida. There is zero discussion about her stats; zero angst about whether she can get into selective schools like Northwestern and zero discussion about affordability.
Affordability is an issue because the dad is a high school principal and the mom is still a SAHM. Will the grandparents be chipping in? What is their EFC? Will they be taking out laons? Is the whole famdamily going to be helping to pay??
All of a sudden POOF she is admitted to NYU and Northwestern. She states she will stay!! YAY…the whole big greek family is so happy she will stay in Chicago.
But then she changes her mind and goes to ??? I won’t spoil the ending.
This is when you know that you have spent too much time on CC (sheepishly raising hand) because any movie, TV show where someone talks about college, you start running through the process.
I remember yelling at the TV when 2 people getting investments on shark tank for what I thought were flawed businesses. But they were able to spin it and get a deal.
We might need. 12-step program; hello my name is Sybbie and I am a CC-aholic
I do this all the time when movie plots around finances are VERY unrealistic. But as I recall the original movie, Grandma and Granpa bought Toula and Ian a house ‘right next to theirs’, so …
I haven’t seen it and am laughing because I too am a CC addict. Yes, the lack of application angst and financial planning would bother me.
However, maybe Toula should get a little credit from the first movie since she lived at home, worked and took classes at the local directional (UI - Chicago IIRC). By doing so she could have saved up a lot and invested wisely (in Windex stock) so the costs aren’t going to be a huge problem. Or maybe she and Ian are also secret CC addicts but hide it from their DD and family??
I can’t remember the last movie I saw in the theatre but wanted to see this one. I have part one on dvd at home and watched it recently. I checked out the timings at the local theatre and was surprised that tickets were $14 each.
That’s a lot of money to spend for two people or a family of four not including food. However I have aaa passes I will be using if I go. Like dos chicos I wonder if it is worth watching or should I wait for the dvd. It just seems like a lot of money for 1 1/2 hours of entertainment.
We have bargain Tuesday for movies we REALLY want to see. Seats are “only” $5 or so instead of the higher close to $10+ that they are normally. It’s cheaper on Tuesday than even with SR discount or kids’ rates. We rarely go to movies but D REALLY wanted to see Star Wars, so we all went together. It was pricey but cheaper than the IMAX version that we all declined.
I would wait for the DVD. This was a family movie night for us… One of the rare nights when the stars aligned and D was not working, test prepping or working on other school stuff. Also, we all loved he first one so we wanted to see it together. But otherwise I would say save your $$.
Anyone remember Brittany in Glee being courted by MIT because of her math genius, which they determined from her “math scores”? And since she didn’t appear to be competing in any of the contests, presumably this was her SAT. There are a lot of kids out there with 800s who would love it if MIT came calling.
I was also driven nuts by Everwood, where Amy blew off her Princeton acceptance and the guy whose name I can’t recall blew off his Julliard audition–okay, he had a good reason, he had JUST found out that he was the father of a baby who had been given up for adoption–and they both went to the local CC. Please.
It used to be with aaa you could get gold or silver tickets.
Gold tickets were around $8 and could be used to see new movies.
Silver tickets were $6 but you had to wait two weeks after the release date to use them.
If you go to the ticket counter the matinee is just above $7 but goes to $12 at noon and then $14 in the evening.
I remember (before kids) going to a $1 theatre. (this was in the late 1990’s)
The last college related movie I saw was called, “Admissions.”
Lately , my husband and I are all about silly , mindless movies for entertainment only…something tells me we would like this.
There’s too many bad and disturbing things happening in the world that an escape via cinema is welcome.
I also don’t put a lot of faith in critic’s assessments of movies. Just last night , we watched a movie on Amazon prime that won at least one academy award , and neither of us liked it
My daughter saw the movie on Friday night and thought that it was cute- we’re going to catch it this week. No, it’s not a deep film and it’s not as well done as the initial film, but right now I really need some light relief…
Does any movie or TV show get college applications right? When Castle’s daughter was applying she heard from Stanford at some totally impossible time of year.
