Defriending people Facebook

Is anyone doing spring cleaning by defriending on their Facebook lists? I noticed some of FB friends that defriended me that used to have 200+ friends now have <100 friends on FB.

I'm thinking about having a separate FB account (even though it's prohibited) for the college (friends) I'll be attending this year I want more meaningful friendships, even though they have the privacy settings. I rather have <100 meaningful friendships instead of 1000 friends (of classmates and acquaintances)

How do you guys keep in touch? What do you think?

I'm thinking of only friending my good friends, or people I want to keep in touch.

I think I'm going to weed out the people I never talk to though.

I talk to just about every person I meet..so..yeah..

Story:

This trumpet player and I got in a fight on my fb status. He was trying to tell me off and say he played the trumpet better than I..because he beat me in chair challenges for the first time in 4 years.
A few days later, I received a friend request..and it was from him..Me: "ha, punk defriended me!" pushesignorebutton

^ is this a joke?

umm..no? just..my only defriending experience.

Nah, I think having separate accounts would get annoying to use.

Having someone as a friend on facebook doesn't mean you actually have to be real friends with them. Just speak with the ones you want to stay good friends with, and leave the rest alone lol. Besides, you never know when you might want to talk with them or something.

I have 275 facebook friends and know all of them

Why would you defriend them?

I know someone with 1200 (obviously too many)

I have maybe 150 facebook friends, but a lot of them are people that I actually talk to. I've never seen the point of having 2000 friends that you don't know. There were two people that I defriended.

Random girl who I thought I knew, but actually didn't.

Guy who I used to have a large crush on and who also wrote fifty billion statuses about him and his girlfriend. It got really annoying and I was sick of looking at it (yes I know I'm pathetic) It would have made more sense to hide his posts than to defriend him but I didn't realize the former was possible. He either didn't notice or he didn't care.

I have almost 500 friends...I know almost all of them...but i usually only delete:

1.) somali fobs that bother me....i get at least 3 new random ones from them everyday...annoying lol/ creeps or guys that keep on bothering me/trying to talk to me.

or

2.) people that I really, really dislike..i don't even know why they added me in the first place..i wish i had pressed the ignore button first...

but i think deleting people is kinda mean..so i don't really go about deleting ppl. hhaha

even though i will admit that if i find out someone deleted me, i'd wonder why and kind of feel bad for 5 mins haha. but i don't take it too personally though.

don't delete anyone. you never know when you might need them.

i know all of my 500 facebook friends, although I don't talk to all of them very often. the ones i don't interact with I just hide.
if you don't know someone, don't friend them in the first place

i know someone with 1,900 friends. at that point it kind of seems like she's just adding people to rack up and collect friends for her profile.

i agree with truffliepuff.. that's kind of why i haven't deleted any of my friends

i plan to do some summer cleaning after my senior year ends :]

I'm pretty sure that you can create separate categories of friends and change the permissions of each category.

^ You can.

I used to have them in categories such as "school, tennis, lacrosse, old school" etc. I think I'll have them as "Stranger, Friend, Good Friend, Great Friend". Just so I can only talk to my great friends and good friends, sometimes just friends if I feel like it.

I'm going to do that now. TTYL

^How does one do that after the initial friending? I'm cleaning my friends, unfriending and sorting, but I couldn't find the way to categorize. I'm just doing like Elementary school, High school, college, and ballet.

Maybe delete 1 out of 44 when high school ends? Maybe not. I have done a pretty good job in keeping my FL clean.

I don't understand what the big deal is about having a bunch of friends. So you don't talk to them, who cares? Unless they do annoying things, what's the big deal? Seriously, I'll never understand.

I'll also never understand the reason for making a new account for college. Who gives a **** if your fb profile is the same as from high school?

^The reason I want two accounts is because I don't want 900 friends, I rather have 600 friends on the high school one and the 300 on the college one.

I know I can make lists and privatize areas of my profile. But I already have a lot of categories on my HS account and what I post on that one are funny tidbits of my thoughts, goals, and day.

The account for college is to solely work on group projects, post campus events, and network with my professors and advisors I'm closer with.

I'm stubborn and don't want to listen to your advice, even though you are probably right. We'll see how well it works this summer.

I will occasionally clean out friends if there are any people I don't recognize but other than that I don't see the any reason to defriend anyone unless they are being annoying.
