I seriously cannot believe there is yet another school shooting. What in the world is it going to take before we make some changes.
Multiple shooters (2 in custody, searching for a potential 3rd), at a K-12 school. Reports of 7+ injured. High achieving school in a wealthy area (suburban Highlands Ranch). Started in the middle school area of the school. A police substation only a block from the school likely helped keep it from getting worse.
Just saw a reporter say something to the effect that this one is different from a normal school shooting (this one has multiple shooters, K-12). He then paused and reflected how horrible it feels to even have a concept of a “normal” school shooting.
It is heartbreaking.
My best friend lives in HR. When I first heard the report I thought it was her child’s school. He’s on lockdown near by. She has lots of friends whose kids go to that school.
Absolutely heartbreaking.
Just another Tuesday.
The new normal. Some news coverage then something will take its place.
And if any of the traumatized students advocate for change, they will be the recipients of extreme vitriol.
Horrific. Tragic how this has become normal. I think about how New Zealand made changes after 1 (ONE) shooting…
I can’t believe the only place I’ve heard this is on CC.
Me too, i’ve Been twiddling around online while I finish working after school…not a thing on Twitter
New Zealand doesn’t have the second amendment. Assuming Congress could reach agreement and pass a law similar to NZ it would immediately be subject to numerous lawsuits. You would need public opinion to support such a law and that won’t happen any time soon.
It’s startling how long this took to show up online. It’s so routine now. I paid attention this time because my daughter lives in Douglas County (although she has no children). If the shooting were somewhere else, I might have barely noticed. I’m embarrassed that I’ve gotten to the point where this seems ordinary to me.
Of course nothing will be done in response to this. If nothing was done after Sandy Hook – when the victims were so very young and there were so many of them – it doesn’t seem reasonable to expect a meaningful response to any lesser tragedy.
What should be the response? That is the issue.
The suspects got deep into the school, according to reports. An adult and a juvenile arrested.
@Leigh22 that is very troubling. So they were known to the school?
I’ve read (in multiple sources) that the two shooters, in custody, were students at the school.
@vpa2019 - no information on the suspects accept one adult and one juvenile. They had a handgun and other weapons. Shot people in two different locations.
So what is the response? I don’t think our schools are secure enough - especially our high school. We’ve definitely made improvements over the years, but schools in general are still soft targets. It’s really heartbreaking.
Heartbreaking.
@Midwest67 I got that update from The New York Times. But this is when the information is constantly changing. It’s possible that “the adult” is an 18 year old student.
I don’t want to hear another politician giving their thoughts and prayers. DO SOMETHING!
“Adult” was a student.
