Dexter

mantori, Teri’s right. It’s hard to say much about Quinn in Season 5 without giving too much away. His character has a larger part in this season and you do get to see a tiny bit of character development through the story arc, so my guess is that will continue into Season 6.

As of last night I am six episodes into season five. Is it just me, or did the show take a dark turn? I don’t suppose a show about serial killers will ever be anything but dark, but I think the character of Lumen and her experiences are pretty heavy.

I laughed when I saw how Dexter handled the body of the gay-hookup killer, and then laughed lots more when, under Dexter’s narration, Masuka was shown acting out his theory of what happened with gestures. That was the point where my wife walked in, glanced at the television and said, “You like some really weird stuff.”

We bought season five on DVD the day it came out, on Tuesday. That Friday, we were to return son to college, so we did a marathon Dexter watch and finished the whole season in two evenings!

Absolutely loved it! Great, great story line! I slept through some of it, just from being tired from packing, so I will have to go back and rewatch some of it. I was awoken from laughter by my son and husband as Masuka was acting out his theory, so I missed it, but judging from their loud belly laughs, it was hilarious!

Can hardly wait for Season Six now!

I love Dexter - will be looking for this thread to discuss once the new season starts… when is that?

^^October 2!!

I feel really bad about this, but I’m glad Dexter doesn’t have Astor and Cody anymore (at least at the point in the series I’m at). I was getting tired of him not being able to kill on his own schedule. If it were any other show, I would have wanted him to find a way to keep them, but this ain’t Little House on the Prairie. And Astor was getting to be a real snot.

But I have a feeling they’ll be back in his life somehow.

^^^But what about the baby, he still has him?

Oh, yes, he has the baby. Harrison is a cute little kid, but since he doesn’t assert himself yet (on account of his being a baby), there’s no real conflict with him, other than Dexter ticking off the nanny by keeping his usual, mixed-up schedule. But I’ve only seen six episodes since Rita had her, um, major issue, so I’m sure there’s more baby-daddy drama on the way.

Watched season 5, episode 6 last night, in which they try to catch the Fuentes brothers in a night club.

Usually I find that the utter implausibility of the show’s premise is tempered by everything else seeming relatively realistic. (I don’t know that it is realistic, but it seems that way to me, enough that I can suspend my disbelief.)

But this episode bothered me, specifically the Fuentes trap. I didn’t believe for one moment that the team setting up a trap for two fugitive, armed, serial murder suspects would consists entirely of four homicide detectives and one inexperienced beat cop. Wouldn’t there be a SWAT team in full battle gear ready to pounce? No, instead we get a group of people who work together every day saying, “Hey, let’s go catch these guys by pretending we’re partying at the night club where they hang out!”

It’s the first time the story’s implausibility kept me from enjoying the show.

mantori, my reaction to that episode was the same as yours. In fact, that entire storyline was annoying, in my opinion, and really was an unnecessary distraction from the main plot in Season 5. I won’t say more other than, keep watching, you are likely to continue being bothered by it! :)

I don’t have Showtime, but watched the Season Premiere for Season 6 online last night. The scene with the body on the beach was probably the grossest thing I have ever seen. Who thinks up this stuff? And WHY am I addicted to this show?

Did you see the look in Dexter’s eyes as the scene on the beach ‘unfurled’? He was in awe!!

Mmhmm. Michael C. Hall is an excellent actor and the subtle performance he gives, week after week, as Dexter is a joy to watch.

Anyone still watching? All I can say about last night’s episode is WOW! Don’t want to give anything away to those who may not have seen it yet but what an episode.

Just a side note: the audio versions of the books are also very well done.

Netflix will have seasons 5-8 this coming January.

I like the half-smiling and confident look of Dexter when he steps out of his apartment every morning.
