early_college, that’s great news! Congratulations! BTW, I really like a lot of the schools on your list!

Congratulations!

Congrats! Please keep us updated.

Congrats!! My D was accepted to Hiram also.
in fact, you two have some similar colleges. Best of luck. I am very happy for you.

Thanks everyone for your support. I’ll keep everyone updated :)

OMG! So, I just checked my Ursinus College application status and I got admitted. I didn’t even get an email telling me. It says today’s date on it, so it must be recent. I do not know if I received any scholarships or what not yet.

Knox College has mailed my decision Wends or Thurs, so I should be getting my decision in the mail pretty soon! :)

Now you need to sit down with your parents and get a concrete number from them as to the amount of money they will contribute per year towards your college expenses.

I’ve talked to my parents about finances and it’s going to come down to each individual financial aid package. I ended up applying to only GCSU instate because Valdosta was a pretty bad fit. I should know in the next couple weeks if I got accepted to GCSU, but it will still cost 13k a year even with the Hope Scholarship. It costs 10k just for room and board. I have a feeling Hiram may be the same price as GCSU after scholarships/financial aid. We will see though. I have no problem going to GCSU if I have no other choice.

nysmile beat me to it. Congrats on the acceptances. That is the first step. The next step is the cost. Glad you are talking to your parents. Make sure you have a pretty firm idea of what they can actually afford to pay. You can relax now and try to enjoy what remains of high school…if I remember you’ve been at this college wish “game” for a number of years.

I know cost is going to be the determining factor where I will go. I plan on visiting the schools during spring break after I’ve narrowed them down. If and when I get rejections, I will just see it as one less school I have to cross out. I may also visit the schools during 3 day weekends during next semester. I really wish I could “relax”, but I feel like this year is even more stressful. It’s hard to think that my life may change drastically in 9-10 months. Academically, I am doing the best this year. I have a 94% average this semester thus far, but I’m sure it will go down after finals. I have been researching schools since 8th grade, and I joined CC spring semester of freshman year. College searching has become a hobby for me, and I honestly wouldn’t mind becoming an admission counselor. I’m glad my higher education search won’t be over after this year, but I will NOT be wasting my undergrad researching grad schools. I feel like I wasted way too much time during high school researching colleges when I could have been studying for the SAT, but like I said it did become more of a hobby. NYU use to be my number 1 dream school and now I’m applying to schools where you can see the Amish not far from campus haha.

I am having a problem with college board though. I sent my SAT scores to several colleges on October 29th and they were officially sent on on November 3rd. All my schools have received them, but Ohio Wesleyan U. It only should take up to two weeks at the most if there sent online, so now college board is looking into the problem but it may take a week for them to get back to me. Their EA deadline is due November 30th, so I hope the problem is solved by then. OWU said they will accept SAT scores from my high school, so I will send those when I get back from the break. All my other schools received the scores a week after I sent them and most of them have electronic systems. I have actually had many problems with this admission process. Colleges were missing a lot of things I gave them, so I had to keep checking back with them. My high school forgot to put the transcript in Clark’s envelope when they put the counselor recommendation/school report in there and I found out the day of the deadline, but they ended up pushing the deadline back.

I just cannot wait until this process is all over. I will have a huge burden off my shoulders.

early_college, you might want to also call OWU about your SAT scores. Do you have something from the CB that shows that you paid for scores to be sent to OWU?

My son had this problem with the ACTs at one school. Scores are sent apparently on disks every so often. The school seemed to have the scores, but somehow it was lost. My son was able to show the school that we had paid for them to be sent. Admissions called the people in charge of sending the scores if I remember correctly. Anyway, it was figured out, but it might have taken a week.

I have called OWU several times about my scores. I have emailed the admission counselor numerous times about this issue. They told me to contact College Board and I did because there was nothing they can do about it. College Board said OWU could contact them and they could give them my scores via phone, but OWU has to have the scores on paper and College Board said they cannot fax it to them. I spent over $50 sending my SAT Scores. I am going to just send them my scores via my school, she said that would be fine. One would think it would have to be official but I guess not. And online it does say that they did send the scores. College Board told me they did on the phone as well, but OWU hasn’t received them. These aren’t October SAT Scores either, these are from June.

Early_college, I think you could print out the info that shows that you have sent and paid for your scores to go to OWU and then present this to your HS GC. Perhaps he/she can resolve whatever OWU needs. I think that some schools do accept scores that are sent/faxed through the high school. Does your hs have these scores? If so, that might be all tha OWU needs. It is annoying because you paid for the scores to be sent officially.

I know that with another child of mine, the school said that they did not have his transcript. It was a rolling admission school! When I found out, I called the GC and she called the university and just followed up by faxing my son’s transcript. The file was “complete” within minutes.

Thanks for the advice! My high school does have my scores. All OWU needs is my scores, so I am hoping they will fax them for free. I spent $70 for transcripts, it costs $5 per transcript at my school. It use to cost $2, but the county raised it to $5 this year (my luck).

The same thing happened to me with my transcript, northeastmom. However, it was Clark U and I found out the day of the deadline. My high school counselor is pretty crappy. I go to a big public high school in the suburbs, figures. She didn’t call Clark, but did fax them over for me.

I also had problems with colleges updating all their materials. I interviewed with a lot of schools and some of the schools never put my materials in the system. I submitted a theater scholarship at one college and this college needed it to start reviewing my application. However, they didn’t even check the mail to see if they had it until I called and asked. I’m pretty sure it arrived days before, but they never updated it. I’ve had so many problems with admissions, it is pretty aggravating. My old language arts teacher sent my recommendation to GCSU and they never received it. So, she had to send it again a month later. I had to call GCSU and they had to go into their email and find it. It was way too much work. I think there is something wrong with their email. My french teacher sent it and the email didn’t work, and I asked her if she would send it again and she never did. I just gave up after that, recommendations were optional anyways and I already had my language arts teachers. Also, I asked both my teachers in August for recommendations and I gave them about 3 weeks to do them. I wanted them by September 15th for my rolling decision schools, but I never received them until the end of October and that was AFTER I reminded them a million times. It was literally days before the EA deadline when I received my french teachers recommendation. I ended up seeing my language arts teachers recommendation when she forwarded me the second email she sent to GCSU, thank God it was phenomenal.

early_college, I am amazed by the work you have done to stay organized, and how you followed up multiple times with everyone while staying on top of your school work.

FWIW, my son also sweated out those LORs in the beginning of the year to meet some deadlines. It all worked out, just as it did for you.

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it. This was the first year I was not on the swim team, but that was only because of conflicting drama rehearsals, which is way more time consuming then swim team. It has really been a stressful year. I am kind of jealous from my friends because they will all know where they will be attending months before me. UGA/Tech just gave out their first wave of admittance’s and for some it was their only college they applied to. I know other seniors who haven’t begun to apply yet and have no idea what to do. My counselor does little to help since it is such a big school, bigger then 15 out of the 16 schools I have applied to. My counselor actually made fun of me to another student because I applied to so many. I was honestly not expecting so many problems with this process, but I’ve handled every problem thus far. I only know one other person who is actually applying to OOS liberal art schools and she is only applying to Vassar, Roanoke, and Oxford at Emory. Everyone else I know is applying to mostly instate colleges, except the few geniuses applying to the Ivy’s and the like. I wish I had more people in my school to relate to with this process. My french teacher didn’t even know what the Common Application was, lol.

I’ve already told you this before, but you ARE amazing! And, surprise, surprise, my son had problems with OWU receiving his SAT scores last year. We resent them and then of course they turned up mysteriously. I know that you cannot afford to just resend when these scores get lost in the admissions offices’ “piles”, so I’m again impressed by your self-advocacy. All the countless interviews you set up on your own, all the research you have done on your own, and all the work it takes to apply to 15 schools is going to pay off in the end for you. They will see what we all see :).

Thanks jwiwmom, I don’t know if you saw my recent updates but I just got accepted to Hiram and Ursinus this week. And I have had A LOT of problems with OWU. I gave my transcript/counselor recommendation/school report to the admission officer back in September and they never updated their system. And Surprise, the one admission officer who added me on facebook was from OWU. On the bright side, she is very nice lol.

early_college, don’t worry about the GC “making fun” of the number of schools that you applied to. Frankly, discussing you with another student is inappropriate. In my opinion, the GC might be doing this to discourage others from applying to so many schools because of the work involved within the guidance office. You needed to do what was best for you and your family, so don’t worry about the GC. I know it was expensive to apply to so many schools, but next to the cost of college it was not much money at all! If you save thousands because you receive a lot of merit aid and/or financial aid at one school over others, it was all worth the expense and the paperwork. Also, you will know that you left no stones unturned during the process so you won’t have regrets about not having applied to xyz, abc school, etc. Again, congratulations on your acceptances!

WOW! I just read through some of your updates and saw Hiram acceptance, but didn’t see that you also got into Ursinus!!! You have some fantastic options already. I KNEW you would. I think I remember you interviewed with Ursinus on Skype? I know, it’s frustrating when the app. materials are somehow lost! One day soon all this application chaos will be behind you…and you’ll be enrolling somewhere :)

I’ve never heard of a facebook friend request from an admissions rep, lol!

@northeast mom, exactly! well said.
