Did atrocious on the SAT; SAT Optional Suggestions?

So, my father just did Juniata’s early personal cost estimator. My parents would have to pay $13,942 a year. I would get $23,338 in grants/scholarships, $1,500 in work study, and $6,500 a year in loans per year. He said that would be alright if things go well next year, but if it was this year it may be too much. He owns his business, so it all commission based. GCSU would be the same exact per year without any financial aid. GCSU costs $10,000 just for room and board.

I will apply to West Georgia or Valdosta in April if I can’t afford any of my schools financial aid package. They have deadlines very late in the summer, so it would be fine. There is no reason to waste the money now. I have a feeling that out of 17 schools, one is bound to give a decent package.

“My parents would have to pay $13,942 a year. ch. . . GCSU would be the same exact per year without any financial aid. GCSU costs $10,000 just for room and board.”

^^^ How is $13.9K the same as $10K???

No, GCSU costs $13,000 per year after the Hope Scholarship, but my point was that it costed $10,000 a year just for room and board. I would be getting 90% off the tuition, but the room and board costs more then the actual tuition. It costs more money without the Hope Scholarship.

I just got accepted to Clark. I am BEYOND excited. I received the $28,000 Jonas Clark Scholarship which is $7,000 per year. It isn’t as much as Lenoir-Rhyne, Knox, or Hiram but I will take it. Just wanted to let everyone know. It will obviously depend on my financial aid package, but Clark is one of the top schools on my list. I am def the most excited with this acceptance. :)

BTW, I have a Holy Cross alumni interview tomorrow. It will be my last one thankfully!

Also, my final first semester grades:
AP Lang: 92%
Honors Econ: 91%
Honors French 3: 95%
Advanced Drama I: 100%
AP Environmental Science: 102%
Integrated Trig: 81%

I have a 93.6% average for this semester. This is better then any other semester yet. I got an academic letter sophomore year for getting a 90% each semester. Just wanted to let you guys know. 10 points were added to every AP class, but no added weight for honors.

I am literally crying!!! OMG, I am so happy for you!!! You SO DESERVE THIS…WOW…

Thank you so much jkiwmom. You know I appreciate all your help! I’m glad your happy as well. I had a feeling I was going to get rejected based on some fellow CC members predictions, but I’m glad I proved them wrong! :)

and look at your grades! you are on a mission and it shows :)

I BELIEVE in you! I’ll bet Holy Cross will love you too.

I really did well this semester. I am hoping for straight A’s next semester. I hope Holy Cross loves me too haha :)

Just got the mail and I’m wait-listed by Ohio Wesleyan U. It says we specifically request: any SAT and or ACT scores we may not already have. Obviously I got wait-listed due to my low SAT scores. Oh well. I don’t know if I should accept the waitlist. I didn’t even know one could get waitlisted for EA, one would think I would have got deferred. Also, I was planning on applying for their theater scholarships. Should I tell my two drama teachers not to do it now? Thanks!

Also, the OWU admission officer was the one who added me on facebook. Haha, and I get wait-listed. She did tell me that they do accept people with my scores, but oh well. It was def in the middle of the pack. I like Wooster better. My dad says I should deny the wait-list and my mother said I should accept it, but I won’t be getting any scholarships so I don’t know.

Did anyone even know you can get wait-listed EA?

I also wanted to say that OWU invited me to their class of 2016 college group, so I emailed the admission officer (Dec 9th) asking if I was admitted, she said my application was still under view. The wait-list letter was dated Dec 9th. Go figure!

early_college, WONDERFUL NEWS! Congratulations about Clark!!! I hope the $$ will work for you and your family.

Excellent grades!!! You should be very pleased!

I don’t know how to advise you about OWU. I’ll leave that for you to decide. I think that you will get at least an opinion or two here, especially about focusing on schools that already accepted you (assuming that you can afford them).

Thanks northeastmom. I ended up emailing the OWU admission counselor asking if I can still apply for the theater scholarship, but then again, maybe it is better to just move on. I’m not going to get accepted everywhere. And frankly, I don’t want to go to a college which didn’t want me in the first place.

Congrats early!! I am so happy. Despite the wait list of OWU, you have great options!!

Congrats, ec. But are you familiar with the term “admit-deny”?

Congrats on the Clark acceptance, I hope you can make it work financially.

Congrats on Clark!! (and way to bring up those grades!)

Thanks everyone. I just looked up admit-deny. Are you referring to Clark Jym?

BTW, my Holy Cross interview went well. I asked her to compare HC to Clark. She thought HC was two tiers above Clark. And she said Clark was bigger (when HC has more undergraduates) and they have much bigger class sizes with TAs. I also asked about the consortium. She said Clarkies went to Holy Cross to take classes, but not vice versa. She did not even know HC was SAT Optional and didn’t seem to be up to date with HC. Although, she was a very down to earth woman who graduated from HC in 1995. She said HC has a lot of legacy’s/wealthy people. The price tag is more then a lot of my other schools, but I’ve heard HC gives pretty good financial aid. However, HC is the biggest reach on my list. It may be too conservative for my taste and she did say the Catholic aspect played a big role and she isn’t Catholic. I am though, but a pretty liberal non religious one.

Does Clark U meet full need, ec? Don’t get me wrong, its a great school. But they do say that they will not match or compete with other school’s offers. So, will they meet your financial need?

I was just trying to research if they meet full need and could not find it. But Clark has need based aid. I just do not know if they meet all of it. Like I’ve said in the past, it will come down to the best financial aid packages.
