Did I screw up my admissions essay by forgetting to delete margin comments?

A few months ago, I applied for regular undergraduate admission to the Michigan Ross School of Business. I earned a 4.0 in LSA both semesters, had solid extracurriculars, and solid essays. However, the other day I randomly opened my document to one of my essays. I was shocked to find comments made in track changes that I had forgotten to delete. What happened was that I had been viewing the document in the “final” version instead of “final showing markup.” Because of this, I had forgotten to delete some margin comments that a friend had made when reviewing my essay (and it’s obvious that they were made by someone who is not myself). Whenever you open a document in word, it automatically takes you to the “final showing markup” version of the document. I emailed the document to myself, and noticed that when I clicked “view,” it shows the version without the margin comments. However, when I click “download,” it takes me to the “final showing markup” version with the comments showing. The application was done through “applyweb.com.” I can review the application, except all I see during the essay section is “please attach your essay using the following button.” My question is, do you think that the essay reviewers will have access to my original word document with the comments showing, or do you think they will just see what I see when I click “view” when I email the document to myself. Do you think that if they can see the margin comments that would be a deal breaker for me? Thanks for all the input

Why do you think margin comments would be a deal breaker? Surely they expect you to get some outside critique of your essay before submitting it.

That is a good point. However, it’s probably unprofessional to send in a version with comments showing, and this is a very competitive program. I’m just worried that this one mistake will be a deal breaker.

Look up the thread on clam farts in the Yale forum. It will put you at ease, I promise.

Heres the thread. Relax and enjoy!! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/470497-clam-fart-oh-my-god-what-did-i-do.html</a></p>

Does anyone think that if I forgot to delete the margin comments this will be seen as unprofessional? Or do you think they will just see it as a simple mistake?

If you had 4.0, i think you should be fine.
