GPA is low. How many APs/Honors courses are offered at your school? Are you taking the hardest possible schedule?

How are your essays? If they are phenomenal, they could possibly make up for other areas that are less than stellar (particularly for an OOS student).

It’s never a waste. There is always a chance.

Im not taking the hardest possible schedule but it is decently hard. I’ve only taken 1 “normal class” during high school and that’s math. Everything else has been honors and a couple AP’s. Our school offers a decent amount of AP’s, but not a whole lot. I wish we had AP Micro/Macro considering I’m interested in business (I have a 99% in my regular econ class as of now). I also like history/social sciences so I’ve taken the 2 offered in that category. As for the essays, my common app essay came out pretty good I think and my supplement essays I thought were especially good or at least better than I expected.

The out of state admission rate is less than 25% so the odds are against you. However, everyone needs a reach school. (The problem comes when almost all of a student’s applications are reaches.)

Yeah that’s true. UVA is the hardest school, admissions wise, that I’m am applying to. Of the 10 schools I’ve applied to, only 2 are real reaches in my opinion (UVA and Lehigh) so if I don’t get into UVA it’s not the end of the world, but it would be nice to get into such an awesome school. Thanks for all your opinions!
