Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Yay sabaray!! I’m hanging around 25 pounds down and have kind of stalled but it’s my own doing.

Halloween candy support group update:

All packages still unopened…

^I am not worthy
I too bought a small quantity of “just in case” candy. I did manage to restrain myself and opened/ate only ONE 110 cal Reece’s PB cup…but yeah, it will be that kind of week here.

Sabaray, big kudos! You’ve now officially left me 17 pounds behind (I’m still tinkering around at -43) and I suspect the running helps you manage a leaner caloric budget. I need to motivate myself to tighten the caloric budget but I’ve just totally been in coast mode  Resting on my laurels, if you will.

Maybe my 2014 goal of body composition will change that. I’ve got a ways to go on time in on workout routines, but my overall strength and condition is certainly vastly improved this year ;)

kmc, I think you are miles ahead of where you were when you joined us here. You get a great variety of exercise, something I am sure I could benefit from. While I do planks and kettlebell, I really need to think about additional strength training (something I am not wildly enthusiastic about).

I do feel that I need to start taking in more calories. Maintenance mode is not my strength, as evidenced by my past yo-yo weight. I never in a million years thought I would be able to get my weight as low as it is now, so perhaps that will prevent me from returning to my preferred carb heavy diet.

Good job on avoiding the candy, iDad! I don’t know that I’d be able to.

Haha “Halloween candy support group” :D

Have to share this: Yesterday on our walk we came across a huge tree across the path, about 4 feet off the ground. You could go (awkwardly) under it, or go over it. There was a family with 2 teens in front of us, and the one D was trying to go over. When she gave up, we smiled at each other and I stepped forward and boosted myself over. It was like a cross between breasting out of a pool and getting on a horse. No big deal.

The other family laughed and I felt like saying, “And I’m a grandmother!” :)

Good Morning! Back from Europe five pounds lighter! The walking was key even with my busted up baby toe. Walked a minimum of 10 miles daily so I was able to enjoy croissants in Paris. Tried macarons at Laduree’s and discovered they just aren’t my thing. Loved the French wine, however! Debating about seeing the doctor about my toe as what should be the top of my toe is now pointing to the outside. Looks very strange with a toenail on the side, still hurts and is really slowing me down.

Congrats sabaray! You go girl! So very excited for you. Hoping you motivate me to continue my program of shedding for the wedding!

Wow, marvelous trip, marvelous eating, marvelous results of a 5 pound loss - who would have thought on a vacation!!

NM, I do think a trip to the doc is in order for your toe - just too long to be out of commission. It won’t hurt to have it looked at.

NM, I don’t know the history of your hurt toe…but if it’s pointing the wrong way it sounds busted! You don’t want it to heal that way so perhaps it should be taped?

See a doc!

NM- sounds like a great trip and SUPER on the 5 pound loss!

I was really appreciating my fitness level with all my recent travel. Just shoving luggage around and lugging it on and off shuttles, into cars etc requires a certain amount of strength. It really does help to be somewhat fit. My shoulders and back were actually a little tired and sore from the long travel days to and from Kona with my computer backpack. For shorter trips I can get by with the iPad, but for work stuff on a long trip I need the computer. It gets heavy.

Yay NMINN. Five pound party time! You should go to Europe more often. :)

mommusic, nice story on the fallen tree. That is exactly the payoff we all enjoy for being a little physically fit.

mowc, glad to hear that you have made it home safe and sound from all of your epic travels for so many taxing activities. Enjoy your decompression!

Wow, NMinn, that is quite an achievement! Leaving 5 pounds in France - way to go!

Sabaray–nice job on the weight loss. As we say in Massachusetts–“Wicked Awesome”!

NM–5-pound party after a trip to Paris is wonderful. Go to the doc and have him/her check out your toe. Even if taping is all he/she can do, it’s been a while since you hurt it.

Signed up for spinning tonight–haven’t been spinning for a couple of weeks so I figured I’d ease back in and signed up for a 45 (instead of 60) minute class. It’s nice to have that option. Also, did a 2 mile walk with the dog this morning.

NM, when I finally get to go to Europe I want you to be my travelling companion! Anyone who can lose weight in Europe is doing something right. The only problem I see is that I love macaron.

Dogs are great exercise partners, Bromfield! Mine definitely gets me moving.

NMinn, good to see you post. I had been wondering how your trip was going. Sounds like it went very well!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

3.1 mi treadmill run, inverted rows, etc.

5.75 miles to push me over 100 miles for October. Goal met, rest day tomorrow.

Whoopee! 100 miles - bowing to you!!! :)

3 mile brisk walk and two poky doggie walks. ;)

Walked 11 miles with DH over the weekend. Ran 4 miles today.

After run workout was 25 jumping jacks, 50 (girl) pushups,10(each side) kettle bell wood chops, Three sets of 12 (each side) resistance band side steps and 25 squats with my girly lavender pd. 3 lb. weights.

Home from the grocery store. Bags upon bags of Halloween candy for sale juxtaposed with Best Diabetic Recipes on the magazine rack as you approach the register.

One last basement workout before I head out of town tomorrow. Chin ups, rear-foot elevated split squats, hex bar deadlifts, and alternating DB bench presses.

I’ve been doing agility ladder as part of my warmup and I’m getting faster/smoother/less winded doing a couple of the more basic moves.

On the Halloween candy front, I got out my big bowl (because I’ll be rolling in from the airport just as trick or treating starts, but opted to leave the bags sealed. So I’m successfully getting out of town without touching one damn piece of that poison (Butterfingers, Reeses, Sour Patch Kids, Peanut M&Ms).

Good job on the sealed bag idea  Have a good time with your D.

Welcome back and happy 5 lb party, NM!

I attempted what I suspect were clumsy plank rolls last night with the “mini-cooking-dinner” routine. Interesting and somehow more challenging than just doing the front and sides separate.
