^I remember going out in the cold & rain a few years. And it was ALWAYS dark. None of this “late afternoon” trick-or-treating!

They are talking about postponing here - some suburbs already have postponed. Our mayor wants to wait till tomorrow to decide. The things I worry about are visibility for kids out alone and drivers not paying attention. Also if its windy , fall see,s to bring about lots of falling debris - like branches - from the trees. I don’t recall it being cancelled before and surely do remember a couple halloweens with rain for my kids - but not storms.

We like this salad dressing. It’s not too devastating to the diet.

Ran 4 miles Monday and 4.2 today. Had the exact same average minutes per mile on both runs…weird because I ran in two different neighborhoods. It was hot here today…mid 70’s bright sunshine. The shaded greenway was heaven but climbing steep hills on the sunny roads was work.

^Actually, our area has a LOT of dead trees because the emerald borer has made dinner out of all our ash trees. So branches could fall on people, er, children.

I didn’t realize but we are supposed to get the storm also–winds 25-35 mph, rain…

Edit: to weigh in on the salad dressing argument, I make my own. I use vinegar and real oil, but no sugar (sometimes a pinch or a bit of honey). I find balsamic vinegar to be “sweet” tasting on its own. Add salt/pepper & a bunch of herbs, and it’s so much better than the fat-free stuff that has sugar in it.

Lemon juice/oil/grated parmesan cheese is also a wonderful dressing.

I’d like the exact (or close) ingredient portions for your salad dressing mommusic- sounds good.

Exact? That’ll be the day.

I use a glass cup measure, and I pour in about 2 T vinegar and probably 3 T. oil (usually olive oil tho sometimes I use half olive & half sunflower). Add about a tsp. water to cut the vinegar, salt/pepper to taste, and then whatever I think the salad needs…mustard & tarragon for instance. Basil & garlic. I also vary the vinegar for the same reason. Apple cider vinegar yields a different flavor than balsamic or wine vinegar. Oh, and add the herbs/spices to the vinegar before you add the oil. They will not dissolve/distribute very well in the oil!

I will have to pay attention next time to see if these are actually the proportions I use…I’m pretty sure it’s more oil than vinegar, but not as much as most recipes call for.

I could make a lot at once, but I’ve gotten in the habit of just making enough for one night’s salad. If I’m feeling extremely lazy, I will even sprinkle some vinegar directly on the salad, add salt & pepper & oil, and toss…DH hasn’t complained yet. :D

I had dinner to die for. Old school soul food a oohs and sand on U street. Total dive. Cash only. Guess it’s been featured on food network. Meat and two. Braised beef ribs. Double green beans for me. Double Mac n cheese for d. Buffalo wings app. Served in a Styrofoam container. Outstanding.

Neko Case was terrific. What a voice.

I had to be up around eight miles of pavement walking today. I wouldn’t have been able to do that a few years ago.

^Sounds awesome.

So yesterday was a write off for me on the fitness front. Ran outta time in a.m. due to early meeting then worked til 9 and was so starved, caved when h suggested he’d grab me a pizza. Bleh. Will have to double up tonight.

I had to re-read your post, iDad…somehow I couldn’t fathom you eating a double serving of mac and cheese! Sounds delicious. DC is a great city for walking.

I bet Bromfield enjoyed the Series game!

I do not make my own salad dressing for the most part but I like Brianna’s French Vinaigrette which has 0 grams of carb - no sugar.

Not sure what’s going on with trick or treat here - I still haven’t bought any candy. Afternoon errand, I think.

Another good homemade dressing is a tsp. of olive oil, a tbsp. grain mustard and half tsp. of honey. That makes enough to use on two dinner salads.

That Fooducate site is neat, PackMom. I’m bookmarking it for further exploration.

I’m with you. Since when did Halloween wimp out and start after school? In the good old days (when we walked uphill to school both ways), you started trick or treating after dark. Unless you were like 1 year old and your parent was carrying you!

Checking in from Shanghai - ate pretty well on the flight - did indulge in a dessert when I got here because I was so tired and jet lagged – but ate a hearty and healthy breakfast, reasonable lunch and very small dinner, did make it to the gym (though only for a short time since I’m completely backwards timewise), and feeling good that I’m not falling into my old patterns of indulging on the road. If I gain a pound or two this week, it is what it is - but I know that I can do it - and that’s the long term view!

Sounds like a good trip, iDad. Pizzagirl- congrats on keeping it under control. It is SO hard to do when you are traveling. It certainly can be done- but mentally you just don’t want to!

2 miles in very light rain this am- but 65 degrees. Got this in, at least, before the big rains hit.

Downloading that Fooducate app on my iPhone - thanks Packmom - my H needs this on his phone too!!!

Have a safe trip Pizzagirl - wow, that’s LONG distance to travel!!!

iDad as soon as I started reading your post about soul food, a Food Network show came to mind - bet it’s the same one.

Great salad dressing suggestions, mine is similar, olive oil, vinegar 2 to 1 ratios, crushed garlic, and pepper, and salt if you wish.

Expecting a busy night here. We get a lot of trick-or-treaters in this neighborhood.

I stopped answering the door. Instead, I put up a huge spider web and hang bags of goodies. I am afraid one or two greedy kids are taking them all tho. We don’t get too many trick-or-treaters. 10-20 at most. I hung 30 bags two years ago. They were all gone. I doubled it to 60 bags last year, they were all gone again. I am not sure what I’d do today.

One of my favorite nights of the year. Light up the whole house, put the carved pumpkin out on the porch fully lit, light some fall scented candles, throw an obnoxious costume on the dog (he’s a shark this year!) and stand by the door listening to the scurry of little feet through the leave covered sidewalks - love it!!!

Sounds fun, abasket. We get very few trick or treaters but I have candy now. Sabadog has a lion costume which he is more interested in playing with than wearing!
