Good luck tomorrow, MOWC. Btw, I’m seeing Running Warehouse has a nice price on various Hokas right now, including Stinson Tarmac. Brooks PureFlow 2 on sale as well.

200% Natural

<a href=“The Natural Effect - YouTube”>The Natural Effect - YouTube;

Although, I’m not sure that slapping the “organic” label on a food product means much, either…

Oh, and Gary Taubes has another op-ed in the NYTimes. Last Sunday’s edition. On the failure of the scientific research community regarding nutrition, obesity, and diabetes:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/09/opinion/sunday/why-nutrition-is-so-confusing.html</a></p>

Thanks, Deborah. I’ll check out the RW sale, although I’m pretty loaded up right now on shoes. The swag from the Hot Chocolate race is good. Tech hoodies for the race shirt- fleecy and warm. Hot chocolate mug, too. They had chocolate covered marshmallows at packet pickup.

Those look nice …he says, while typing at the computer in power stretch pants and pullover - the new version of [the 80’s track suit…](http://media.mlive.com/lansing-entertainment/photo/12018586-large.jpg).

LOL, idad! Are those in the pic reps of the Russian mafia? They seem to still dig the Adidas track suits. :D

4 miles. Valentine’s dinner: grilled steak, Brussel sprouts a la idad’s, champagne, tiny slice of cheesecake (kudos to QFC for selling these cheesecake slices 2-packs), and monster sized strawberries! At least my run burned off my dessert calories. I’m stuffed.

Out of town and off the wagon, I’m afraid…Indian food last night finished with cocktails and cupcakes but hey, it was a triple celebration…bday, mcson’s anniversary and his gf’s directorial senior thesis. Beautiful and sunny here…should have brought my snowshoes :)

2.25 sluggish miles this morning at the gym. My body is not in tune to morning workouts. Plus the fact that I didn’t drink but a sip of water before I went to the gym and ate not a crumb - that probably didn’t help me out. Lessons learned.

Not a successful Hot Chocolate 15K for me. I finished- that’s the good part. I felt horrible the whole way. It was 21 with some snow flurries. The course was really hard. I just never felt OK and it didn’t matter how slow I ran. I was a little concerned, actually. I don’t know if cold weather is a problem or it just wasn’t my day. It felt like the last 9 miles of a marathon the WHOLE WAY! There isn’t any reason why I would have felt that bad. The good news is my daughter had a great race- beat me by 10 minutes for a huge PR! Also, I beat someone I was trying to beat, so there’s that… No idea of age group or anything yet- results aren’t up, but I don’t expect anything. We climbed a huge, long hill after mile 2, and it was just horrible. Plenty of hills after that, but the first one was killer. Other good news was my car wasn’t broken into or towed in the ghetto Rite-Aid where a bunch of us parked!

21 and flurries (and the ginormous hill!) would do it for me! I have a harder time breathing when the air is cold because it is dry. Great job! Really proud of you and your D!

Had to climb out on the lower roof to shovel off the skylights and hammer off the ice dam on the upper roof. Just stepping out onto the roof raises my heart rate, forget about when there is a foot and a half of snow on them. With the rain we had for part of Thursday’s storm and and another 6" or so expected tonight, I get worried about the weight on the skylights.

MOWC, you would tell some of us that some days , just finishing is the victory. Your car being in one piece is the icing on the cake.

Finishing 9 miles at 21 degrees and a long hill sounds like a win to me! I think it’s so hard to transition through the warm up phase when it’s cold out. I have to take it really slow hiking in those temps and it’s often several miles before I’m really in cruise mode. I’m guessing that running a race in the 20s is really hard.

Looks like I won my age group, which is a shock. I’m not in the results, though, so I have to fill out a form and they’ll find me on their video feed. I’m not impressed with this company’s timing system.

4 mile treadmill run for me today. I hope the post-race bowl of tasty treats was as good as it looks in the picture, MOWC, after all that hard work. Brrr! Congratulations on your (currently phantom?) win. :)

Speaking of healthy food… After watching Subway pimp themselves as “healthy eating” on The Biggest Loser, I was somewhat taken aback by the pure insanity of their newest product advertised during the Olympics. A sub sandwich with Fritos on top. Just what a sub sandwich needs – more carbs! Good lord. I sure hope it’s low-fat and all-natural…

Saw that! Yuck. Are Fritos even considered “food”? Also, google what Subway used to add to their bread dough - lovely.

Thanks, Deborah. The post-race hot chocolate and fondue was good, but I felt so chilled from being sweaty that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I normally would. Looks like they took the results down, so maybe they are fixing them. I can’t even access the form to submit my correction. I’m wondering if the fact that many of us had so many clothes on over the numbers interfered with the timing sensors.

Shoveling was my workout for Fri–45 minutes for the front walk and porch. Went to gym today and did 50 minutes on the elliptical and them walked on the treadmill for 3 miles. Too much snow to walk outside–I live in the country–so no sidewalks and the roads are still dicey. Didn’t want to walk on them this morning, even though the plow had gone by and the snow had stopped. Will probably have to shovel a bunch tomorrow.

Idad: I had the same thought when I saw that Subway commercial–Fritos in your sub??? Really?
MOWC: congrats on winning an award and finishing the race.

Wow- there is nothing worse than messed up results after a long a grueling race! Hope this is going to be fixed quickly, and you get your 1st place award, MOfWC!

Rain, rain and more rain. Not looking good for my run tomorrow, but can’t complain - rain is nothing compared to what the huge part of the country has to deal with!
