Water aerobics today.

Had a nice walk with college S today when he came home from work. I told him he was spending too much time sitting (true.) The days are getting longer but it’s still cold out and we are supposed to get ANOTHER snowstorm this weekend. Ah, March…

Last day of vacation in Sanibel. Multiple bike rides under blue skies, sunshine and warm temps, TRX workouts on a balcony over looking the Gulf of Mexico, walks on the beach, healthy eating, a great escape. Home tomorrow just in time for another 6-12 inches of snow but that’s ok, I was hoping for 1 more chance to try out my new cross country skis I got on an end of season sale just before we left, lol!

Waving hi to Deborah!!! I was apparently running along side of you - 3.1 miles!!!

I hope to get back on track beginning tomorrow. I have been challenged due to a lot of eating out of the home. Though I try hard, it is difficult for me to make great choices. Prior tracking has helped raise my awareness, and though I have not been great, I am better than I was before tracking.

I really admire all of you who are so consistent with your exercise and diet. I don’t know how you stay so focused and on track.

KMC- I hope your move went well!

Eating out is really, really hard. I think the hardest test I’ve ever had in a restaurant was asking them to substitute double vegetables instead of the side of lobster mac 'n cheese that came with my entree… A trick that I use is to turn to the soups and salads, especially at lunch.

As far as staying on track, it really helped me, particularly in early months when I was weaning off junk food, was to hold the bag of red twizzlers or the bag of Doritos and tell myself that I would buy it just as soon as I lost five pounds. That made it a manageable “sacrifice”. I mean even I could go a week or two without a bag of Doritos. Then, once I had lost the five pounds, it was such a reward to see the scale moving and the belt tightening that I was able to commit to another 5 pounds without red twizzlers and Doritos. Over time, I was able to break the desire and those foods became foods that “fit people like me” don’t eat. But, the mind game of short term sacrifice is a good trick.

Speaking of treats… I had oysters on the half shell for an appetizer tonight. One of my childhood memories was eating roast oysters, steamed in burlap sacks on charcoal grills beachside at the original two-story Sea Pines Motel on Hilton Head. So, when the grocery store had fresh oysters, I had to grab a handful. After many years of steaming them in wet burlap with my dad (they aren’t actually cooked, just steamed enough to open the shells a little bit), my dad discovered that you could “roast” them in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds, just until they crack open. Lot easier that way. Anyway, my dad’s birthday would have been tomorrow, so I ate oysters in memory of many, many good times eating oysters at his beach house. My daughter used to scarf them down at age 4.

Mixed up a little Bobby Flay cocktail sauce (ketchup, horseradish, worcestershire, lemon, and ancho chile powder). Yum. Finished with a main course of fresh haddock sauteed in white wine and butter with a side of broccoli. Pretty healthy eating…

We had oysters on the half shell last night, too, at our outdoor evening event. They were SO good. I had way too much of everything else, too, though.

Good morning! MomWC and Michael, what I wouldn’t give for your vacas :)

Idad, I like the video if it makes people think about moving their bodies
much better than having a prez eating cheeseburgers anyway ;)

Thanks for the well-wishes on the monster move…which is exactly what it was. I am feeling pretty sore despite having had a professional crew on the move because I KNEW they wouldn’t nail it in a day if we all weren’t pitching in…and it still took them 12 hours :)

The downtown public studio is unpacked and looking good. The home production studio needs box unpacking yet. And the shop still has a few pieces of equipment to move, but I got the pallet racking in and loaded and suspect since I did all that myself while the exhausted moving crew finished unloading the office furniture that that is why I feel like I did a thousand weighted squats…

We still have a busy weekend ahead, plus a murder mystery dinner at a friends house tonight complete with costume so I have to stay energized. But I’m actually looking forward to just sitting at a desk again next week :)

I like your oyster story Idad. :)

Mine is a business trip.
There’s a sidewalk/ path all along the one road that goes end to end on this island. It’s good running. May try to do a mile on the beach this afternoon before dinner just because…

blankmind:

Awesome. Kinda puts the struggle to do push ups into perspective!

Loved the oyster story, idad!

Nice business trip, MOfWC! :)

We have the dreaded S word in the forecast… Just perfect for my running plans tomorrow!

Great oyster story Idad

Went to spinning class at 7 am–it was a killer class, but I felt pretty good afterward.

Neat way to honor your father, iDad. Good memories…

Ran a mile on the beach just because I wanted to run a mile on the beach. Stopped to collect a couple dead sand dollars to bring home. It’s a gorgeous beach. 57 degrees and chilly but sunny.

PT exercises and 35 minutes on NuStep today.

Probably the best mile of 2014 MOWC. Envious!!!

OK, 16 miles today because who knows what tomorrow’s weather going to look like. I was dreaming of MOfWC’s beach … :)

Yay, Terriwitt. You are kickin’ it on the NuStep.
