To the basement for me. Rear foot elevated split squats, Chin ups. KB swings. Alternating DB bench press. I’m working to improve my KB swings. More hip hinge. Some are better than others. A dozen of these with a 50lb KB is gracious plenty.

I love beef jerky. It can be expensive though. I’ve found that Aldi’s is pretty good. Took H for a stroll. It was not a walk but a stroll.

A cute bunny outside my window would have made me run faster so I could finish the run sooner to shoo him out my flowers!!! :)

Well, this is why I love running! Came home to discover that the power was out. Shoes on, and out of the front door I went for a short spin around the neighborhood. Saw a bunch of PSE dudes poking at a transformer - mmmm… fried squirrel. ;)

Squirrels don’t really get that whole high-voltage thing, do they?

Well, its chocolate week around here and the only person I have to blame for the bowl of candy is myself. In an effort to show some restraint, I’d left myself a single Cadbury egg in the bowl with the smaller chocolates as a treat for Easter morning when the niece, nephew, son and gf might be tucking into their treats. Imagine my surprise when mch gave it to my employee after eating the one I’d designated for him!

I explained that had been my strategy to avoid a Easter morning binge and his comment was to just buy more. Clearly he does not understand that then there will be FOUR. Perhaps he intends to eat the other three
Clearly he does not understand the voodoo-psychological-gymnastics involved in my weight maintenance!

While I admit its baffling even to me, these voodoo-psychological-gymnastics are what seems to keep me on this side of my line in the sand. It’s a fine balance for an epicure ;)

Amen. The gold metal gymnastics move for me to separate myself, with a portion on a plate, from the bottomless supply in the bag, bowl, or box. It’s the only way I can avoid “putting on the feed bag” and eating 'til it’s gone.

I just threw out a half a loaf of Pepperidge Farm Rye bread. Hate to be wasteful, but I had my three Masters sandwiches. Bread binge ends at six slices. I could put it in freezer, but who’s kidding who? I’m niot going to dig a half a loaf of frozen rye bread out next year for my Masters sandwiches. I could offer it to a neighbor, but with what explanation. “You see, I don’t eat bread. I just bought it by mistake and I don’t know what happened to the half that’s gone?” :)

iDad- don’t you have ducks to eat the bread?

Yeah, but I don’t want the poor things getting Type 2 diabetes!

I got an email from BAA that basically can be summarized as “what not to wear” on Monday. Tutu runners will be sorely disappointed, since no costumes are allowed. I’m getting excited and jittery at the thought of running in such a huge crowd. Yikes. I started doing some research about just how bad the infamous heartbreak hill was… because there was a lot of talks about it. It does not look too bad compared to this:

http://bigwildliferuns.com/docs/full-marathon-elevation.pdf

which to me felt fairly flat, with the hill at mile 25.5-ish being the only exception
Boston is all downhill, so I worry a bit about that.

idad, please speak to my neighbors who feed the Sandhill Cranes pop tarts and tater tots.

Bunsen- I’ve probably said this before, but when I used to train for Boston back in the day, my coach had me do downhill intervals. That wasn’t easy in Dallas- I had to drive north of town and run down the highway access road (it was rural then- not anymore…) and then walk or jog back up. It’s the long, gradual downgrade in the early miles at Boston that completely trashes your legs. It is VERY important not to go out too fast in that race. The reason Heartbreak seems so hard is (1) your legs are trashed from the downhills and (2) where it falls in the race. It isn’t that bad of a hill at all on its own. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype and go out too fast. Don’t. There are always thousands of bandits. I’m not sure how that is going to work this year with all the increased security, but it was always shocking to me (especially back when I was seeded pretty high) to have the gun go off and all of a sudden there are a thousand runners ahead of me coming out of the bushes!

I’m excited that you are going to do this- especially this year since it is so meaningful. My friend who was injured in the bombing last year (lost much of his hearing and has constant tinnitus) is running it as his first marathon. He got an entry since he was among the injured. He has 2 artificial hips, so he won’t be fast. He was at the finish line waiting for his girlfriend to finish. She was stopped about 1/2 mile short of the finish when the bombs went off. She will also be running again. There was a news segment about them last night. He is grateful that he is alive and not more seriously injured, but it truly changed their lives. I’ve been wearing my old Boston Marathon jacket this week in honor of the bombing victims and all my friends who will be running this year. Boston Strong.

BB:

If you want to run a little hill as tuneup this weekend, you could always bop up to NH and do this one:

I can’t believe there is a lottery to get into that race. That’s like having a lottery to get into solitary confinement in Alcatraz…
Course record is 56:41.

I’ll be looking for you on TV Monday!

Track, rowing and more track today. Not ad outside but D2 wanted to go to the gym so I want to encourage her fitness as well so off to the gym we went!

BB, you’ll have to let us know what you end up wearing !

LOL, idad. Thanks, MOfWC! I tried to do some “downhill” running on the trail by running west, towards the sound. I figured if I run along the river, it must be somewhat downhill, since rivers do not like to flow uphill. I will watch my speed carefully as I begin running. Any other tips? And good luck to your friends who are running hopefully, your friend will get better with time.

I will definitely let you guys know what I will be wearing, but I may have to do so in the morning before my run since I have no idea what the weather will be like. One thing for sure - it will be something from Lulu. ;)

If the weather is like this morning, bring your MicroSpikes. I just about busted my butt on the icy deck trying to grill some pork chops for dinner!

Lulu? That should narrow it down to a little less than half the field when we are looking for you on Monday! :)

Random pet peeve from too many nutrition podcasts…

I’m going to scream the next time somebody points to some near-mythological indigenous tribe that eats 100% [fill in the blank] and has no disease, eternal youth, and blissful happiness…

My iPhone says it willl be 64 and sunny on Monday. Wishful thinking? I might just wear the same outfit in which I ran my previous race if it is going to be so hot!

Not as much LuLu at Boston. Lots of sponsored runners so Brooks, Asics, New Balance, Saucony, etc.

Expo is expected to be really crowded, so watch out for that. Buy the jacket if you haven’t already.

My friend’ shearing damage is not expected to improve at all. It was such a tragic day.

Forecast as of now shows 40 degrees early in the morning warming up to a high of 64.

Warmed up to 62 after a 32 degree start today so got in the 5 miles I had planned for yesterday afternoon.

MOfWC, that is so sad… The hearing cannot be restored since the auditory cells die permanently and just like neurons they do not regenerate. There was a local company trying to develop “chemical earplugs” to prevent hearing loss due exposure to loud noises. I meant that maybe with time he can recover from the psychological trauma he experienced…
