I had bad luck with Yurbuds. Did NOT stay in- and, yes, they kept sending different sizes. They don’t work for running.

So what kind of headphones do you use, MOWC?

Ouch, CBB! I felt pain in my toes simply from reading your post. It took me about 2 years to recover completely from the painful toes after my treadmill wipeout. I grinded my teeth and simply ran with the pain. I have a pretty high pain threshold, which sometimes makes things worse. Welcome back!!

I hate earphones. I am not going to stand in line to get Apple’s HR monitoring earbuds either. And it is true, cats like to chew on the Apple-made ones :)

CBB- I’ve been sitting here at a baseball game trying to remember. I’ll check when I get home. They are in-ear and they stay put. Ahh- Snugg Buds! I remembered!

CBB:

Ouch. My little piggies hurt just hearing about your trials and tribulations. Glad that’s in the rear-view mirror for you!

Hiking for realz tomorrow. My annual spring jaunt up Monadnock. Low 60s and sunny. This will be a good test of the UCAN fuel. Monadnock is fairly short (4 miles round trip), but relentless.

CBB, you never have to stay away for slacking, trust me  in fact, when your slacking, this is a great place to be to remember to STOP slacking ;)

Well, I am the proud owner of a new “girl’s” chainsaw despite – or becaus of – my abysmal performance Sunday on the tree. I think McH realized i was a liability in terms of borrowing other people’s chainsaws, so he lifted the ban. i’m pretty sure hauling that tree off the trail helped convince him ;)

I got the new Kobalt cordless electric 12". Not as powerful for sure as gas, but with the 40v battery and light weight, I can at least get up the hill with it to do a bit of trail clearing. There’s already another smaller tree down on my trail further up and I’m pretty clear mch wants nothing to do with it :)

Have a great hike today Idad! Stormy here - hopefully your weather’s better!

Kudos, Deb922, on the running milestone!

MOWC – ooooh, those SnuggBuds look great, and at my kind of price! Thanks for the info. Did they come with a selection of ear gels in different sizes? I’m on a pair of purple SB-Xs.

deb922, yay on 3 miles! I’m glad you found a way to make running a happy thing.

I thought it was just my cat who is obsessed with earbuds. He will hunt them down and kill them, even if they are tucked in your workout bag where you think he couldn’t possibly find them. He will follow you around just waiting for you to set them down for a minute. He’s lucky he’s cute.

Deb922, do you think some of your difficulty (which you have conquered!) is a result of making the transition from treadmill to outside running? I STILL say that the two are totally different animals and that if I haven’t been outside for awhile (only doing treadmill runs) I always struggle some with the adjustment. The energy exerted is just different to me.

CBB- I think just the one ear gel- it’s very soft and really stayed in. I could be wrong, but I don’t remember ever changing anything out. They have different models (as you saw). I didn’t need one with controls on the cord, so I got the more basic model. I like the cord- it’s more of a string and seems more durable. I did return one set and got an immediate replacement- it was just wear and tear, but was in the warranty period.

2 mile walk with dog. Plan on another 2 miles this evening. So happy to have nice weather!

Our cats have also trashed our iphone charger cords. I order cheap ones on amazon since I know they may not last long.

Yoga class today–basic flow. Great class. Walked a few miles this afternoon with two friends who are birders–they were out in search of a Goshawk. I’m not a birder so I went along for the ride. It got me walking and they’re both good friends so I enjoyed spending the time with them. We never did see this particular hawk.

Idad: have a good hike. Monadnock is tough. Our local school takes the 9th graders there the first week of school and the kids hike up to the top–it’s a bonding thing. I chaperoned the year my youngest kid went on the trip. I was amazed at how limber the kids were–some of them were almost sprinting. I’ve also gone up a back route with a friend who grew up in the area. I enjoyed that more than chaperoning.

Sabaray–I am doing a 3-day charity walk the very last week in May. It’s for a local breast cancer support center and Mass General Hospital Gillette Center for Women’s Cancers. This is the 6th time that I’ve done it. This year, you can have a team, so I’m “only” walking 10 miles each day. I think I’m ready for it. What worries me most is blisters, but I’m going to tape my feet and do what all the experts on my team tell me to do. Hopefully, since I’m not doing the whole 20 miles a day, I can avoid blisters.

3.45 easy run/walk. Core & weights.

2 miles this am and 4.2 after work. 60 degrees this morning and 84 after work, but I had quite a bit of shade. This is really early heat for us. Didn’t quite make my 10000 steps (not counting the runs) yesterday on my Vivofit due to some lengthy meetings where I simply could not get up and walk around. Will hit the 10000 today.

Awesome day of hiking. Sunshine, DEET, and a big ol’ pile of rocks to walk up. More later. Chowing down on one of my monster dinner salads…

Cool. Want to hear all about it and the UCan.

I don’t know if it was the spectacular weather or being in better shape or the UCAN, but this was by far the “easiest” Monadnock climb I’ve done. I’m not any faster, but I felt fresher, both on the 1900 foot climb and the steep, tedious descent. I think the UCAN is making a different. I went with 1.5 packets of vanilla in a thermos of cold water from the fridge. The vanilla is really quite good.

Drank half a packet 30 minutes before arriving at the trailhead. Then another half packet after 2 hours and a third half packet 2 hours after that. I should have taken enough for a post workout half packet when I got back to the car. I’m going to start taking two packets on these hard hikes. I have encountered zero problems drinking this stuff and I think the combination of stuff (slow release glucose, protein, sodium, and potassium) is really a good combination for hiking fuel.

It’s especially nice to skip the McD’s or KFC or Wendy’s right before a hike. I had bacon and eggs before leaving home, a couple of hours before I started hiking. The fast food a half hour beforehand is really not ideal. 1.5 packets of this stuff is 240 calories. plus I ate two ounces of salted almonds. Garmin says I burned 1300 calories based on time and heart rate.

That’s what Kimball’s is for. ;)

Good report. Sounds like it went perfectly!
