Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Stop drinking Pepsi. Stop eating Doritos. Stop eating Red Twizzlers. Stop eating french toast with butter and maple syrup as a late night snack. But, just pick something (sugar is the best place to start) and commit to it this week.>>>>>>>>

I have not eaten like that for years, yet remain fat. However, I am being responsible with watching what I’m consuming by tracking, doing Weight Watchers.
An interesting side note. Growing up in the south with a Mom who grew up on a farm and where eating like a farmer was the norm, I was used to really bad habits…biscuits, gravy, fried foods, pies, puddings, cakes. That was many decades ago and I truly changed my habits. I always LOVED chocolate in any form and it was torturous to say no to it. But I had to…and, having my own children then, I didn’t want them to have the bad sweets habit either. After literally decades of denying myself those treats, I now can hardly stand anything sweet. One bite to taste and I’m done. So, that is a very, very good thing for me. More and more sugar now is the bad guy and I’m really glad to have that monkey off my back. Now, my other “bad” I’m weaning myself from is bread. Love bread. Can’t have regular bread. I look for whole grain bread with the highest fiber content. La Brea breads are really, really good. I had one or two pieces a day and even that is dear in WW points.
Thanks for letting me share my experiences.

Anytime VaBluebird. Don’t worry about sharing anything here.

It was restaurant week in a resort town close to us. There is a restaurant I have always wanted to go to. It’s probably not expensive in NYC prices but pretty pricey for us. Anyways I talked my H into going. You know what, it was only alright and I felt terrible afterwards. Had creme brûlée for dessert, my all time favorite dessert and just felt sluggish and gross afterwards and wished I hadn’t. It was an ah hah moment. Maybe I don’t want to do that anymore, eat until I feel awful and eat all that fat and sugar.

MOWC - can/does your vivofit receive any info from your mio link?

Ohio- I haven’t tried that. I haven’t learned how to pair the HR monitor since I don’t use it for exercising, but since the LINK is ANT and so is the Vivofit, it should work the same as a strap, I would think.

5.2 miles this morning instead of the 8-10 planned. The weather looked iffy and I didn’t want to get caught out in a rain storm. I’ll try the longer run again tomorrow. Also, I find that I am quite tired on Saturday mornings and don’t exactly spring from bed. My work weeks are pretty tiring.

Ohio:

Yeah, I think the vivofit will pair with any ANT + heart rate monitor, so that would include the Mio Link. The one catch is that the Mio folk say they hadn’t anticipated pairing the Link with a watch on the other hand. They apparently lowered the power to extend battery life and two swinging arms while running blocked by the body is enough for an “iffy” connection. That’s why people are seeing more reliable results with the Mio on the same arm as the Garmin.

Amen, MOfWC! After after a tiring work week, Im not exactly a ray of sunshine. I was so wiped out last evening that I dozed off on the couch. So movie date is going to happen tonight.

This was included in the daily spam from Yahoo - pretty cool summary of what one can do using his/her own body as a weight:

<a href=“9 Best Bodyweight Exercises for Size and Strength”>9 Best Bodyweight Exercises for Size and Strength;

Okay, some of these do require extra stuff, such as a chin-up bar or a ball.

iDad- thanks for sharing that. It was certainly my experience. It works great on the same arm as the Garmin.

That was from a Mio rep responding to some questions in the lengthy comments at DC Rainmaker. The Mio folk thought that the major market for this would be cyclists, linking to a bike computer on the handlebars or to a smartphone.

Silly Mio. :). Clearly the market was for sports bra wearing runners!

They should have hired a female MBA who’s into running - she would have have set their marketing efforts straight.
I have heard that some guys also do not like chest straps because it makes them look like they have a bra under their exercise clothes, especially from the back.

Happy Mothers Day to all the CC moms! ^:)^

Thanks iDad!!! :)

Thanks, iDad.

Did 8.2 miles. I was nervous, after last week’s bonk in the 10 mile run/walk. I changed my starting point so that the start and finish were flatter than last week’s course. I also had a fair amount of shade, which I needed since the temp went from 69-75 with high humidity. I didn’t think it was going all that well- it still felt like a little bit of a struggle. I did a slow, low HR pace (well, the HR crept up pretty nicely by about 4 miles, but still in my aerobic zone) but didn’t do the walks this week. I had access to water fountains, which is good. 1/4 mile from the end some people were stopped on the path and indicated that I should stop. I was thinking “■■■- I’m almost finished!” THEN I saw the 4 ft. long SNAKE crossing the path! I’m NOT a fan. Another female runner and I acknowledged that we were in NO hurry and stopping was just fine!

The big difference from last week is that I honestly felt like I could have done more and I was not at all trashed afterwards, so that’s a victory. Last week I had that “I hope I never have to run again- streak, what streak?” feeling and today I’m planning how I can do a more robust mid-week run, which will help me on the weekends, I think.

MOfWC, that sounds like a good run in my books! :)

Thanks, idad!

The snow has melted below 3000 feet in the White Mountains. Forecast high of 75 tomorrow. Mostly sunny. Sounds like a perfect day to hike the Welch Dickey Loop.

Cross-training today: dug up a couple of large garden beds and planted stuff.

So, today I ran for the first time since mid-January – before I started breaking bones in my foot! (Actually I did the run/walk intervals.) While I couldn’t do the distance I was doing before, I actually felt OK. The worst part was forgetting my headphones; I’ve become music-dependent when I run. I did a total of just under 3.5 miles. Now it’s on to the garden beds.

3.45 miles today. I did some foam rolling last night, and now my back is really sore. Is there such a thing as a foam roller injury :)?

CBB, that’s great! Toes crossed for you. :)

Ouch, blankmind. Be careful with that roller!

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous day today. Too darn bad that I can’t get out for a run. :(

blankmind, I got a long-coveted foam roller for Mother’s Day. It is super hot and super humid today. The a/c at home AND at work isn’t working so there was lots of joking that my office was being converted to a sauna. 90 degrees when I left at 4 pm.

Some of you might find this to be an interesting read - the McDonald’s sponsored nutritionist convention.
