Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

mathmom, that is one incredible achievement! Congrats.

Now, ladies, after reading your shopping reports, I’m itching to go to the mall and try on the '14 Runsie.

Nice concert, Abasket!

Way to go Mathmom … That is a lot of missing inches, I bet you feel so much better than you did a year ago. Congrats!

I also agree on company while walking or running … My gal pals and I chat up a storm and I love it. Based on H and S, guys don’t seem to talk as much. My podcasts are better company.

Yay Mathmom!

Ha, that’s not a year. That’s since this thread started! But still - I never felt that fat. Hence the surprise. I still would like to get more exercise than I do. I’m comfortable with the eating part of the equation. And I’ve never been in a hurry to lose weight, the idea was always to see where I ended up. (Though it would be nice to be back to what I weighed when I got married.)

Nice loss of inches, Mathmom!

And sometimes I sigh as much at my NPR podcasts as I would a spouse! :)

MomWC, based on your report I suspect I’m not missing much in that mch will not walk the hill  and as comparatively conditioned as I am, (to mch, not to YOU) I’m also not certain I can talk while walking said hill anyway ;)

Math mom, kudos on the inches!

Another party here last night and another tumble off the wheat/carb/calorie wagon. And foodie friends from out of town tonight…Little wonder given the social skedder this summer that I stay in that circular cycle fighting the same five pounds  So its likely a good thing I’d exceeded my original goal by 10 pounds…I def. needed the margin!

As bad as I am being, a wonderful thing hapened.

I had a favorite bathing suit set from my wedding weekend that I’d massively outgrown. After lending it to a friend while hot tubbing one night a few years ago, I gave it to her and said I’d never be able to fit in it again anyway.

She came to the party last night and gave it back to me because she felt indeed I could fit into it again, and darned if she wasn’t right!

I’m delighted to have it back, because for the longest time I looked at it every year and promised myself one day I’d wear it again (but at the time, never did anything about it).

Very cool on the bathing suit, kmcmom!

I walked SO much yesterday! Had about 20000 steps on my Vivofit.

Son’s sprint tri was this morning in NJ. He was 6th overall in the elite category, and ran a sub 19 minute 5K despite almost no run training since his December surgery. His goal was to have the top bike split of the day and he didn’t make it. He was 2nd. He blames another rider that he was (legally) drafting /pulling with because the guy turned out not to be that strong. There’s always something… He was considering not running and took extra time in transition before deciding to go ahead. I’m glad he did. I think it was good for him to get the full race in. The big thing is the girlfriend’s Olympic distance race tomorrow. She wants to repeat as top female. Today was 500 meter swim, 12 bike and 5K run for WildChild. I’m tired! Walked 2 miles. Ran a few steps accidentally trying to get across the course.

6th overall after surgery? My hat is off to him! Good luck to the gf tomorrow!

kmcmom, that is a great story! To be able to fit into something that you wore eons ago is pretty cool, and when it is a bathing suit, the coolness factor is even higher! Here is a side note… The “itsy bitsy teeny-weeny polka dot bikini” method (as featured in the Yoplait commercial) apparently does work, and some weight loss experts recommend having a “goal dress” (or another clothing item) that is just a bit too snug prominently displayed in the bedroom as a reminder of the goal and as a motivator to stay the course.

kmc–that’s such a great success story. And so thoughtful of your friend to return it and at the same time acknowledge all of your hard work over the last year. Yay for your efforts all around!

Saba, glad you too had success on your retail outing. Did you buy a patterned/colored skirt? I notice several women running this week in running skirts, including one this morning who lapped me as I strolled (walked) around our pond. She was wearing a black skirt with ruffles on the back. Today, I’m trying the navy skirt… Certainly looking at the exercise fashions adds another diversion to the work-outs.

KMC, you’ve been holding out on us. We now know you’re actually a Canadian supermodel transplanted to Michigan. That is a true success story!

Kudos to WildChild. Wow.

PlantMom, I did indeed get one of the patterned skirts- relatively tame though. It’s a light blue polka dot with striped shorts underneath. I’m a pretty conservative dresser in everyday life, so I figured in my running life I could have a little more fun. Wore my new shorts today for a 6 mile run and they were awesome.

In a moment of temporary insanity, signed up for a fitness clinic on abs. I figure I have to have some somewhere.

No workout for me today. Getting ready to drive 2 hours down to Mohegan Sun Arena in CT to see a concert. And, I really, really hope I don’t see any women (or men) in plus-size runsies dancing to this song tonight!

Thanks for the entry-level exercise feedback. I have - like many others, I am sure - climbed on the exercise bandwagon before - joined the gym, bought the new shoes, signed up for the yoga class - and nothing has really stuck. I got busy, or sick, or whatever the excuse was, and missed a day, and then a few more days, and pretty soon I wasn’t even thinking about it anymore.

So I am picking one thing - planks for now (it seems that even if not done 100% correctly, the risk of injury is low) to do every day. I am watching relatives in their 60s suffer all sorts of ailments that I want to avoid, and not exercising at all just seems inexcusable. So I am thinking about it like I think about flossing my teeth - not something that I like doing but rather need to do, given that the benefits far outweigh the short-term unpleasantness of the experience.

Of course, I wouldn’t mind working up to finding a more intensive exercise that I like, but for now I have a gut feeling that for the the being, I need to do something - and stick with it.

At restaurant drinking martini waiting for lobster shrimp and crab. Life is good.

Woot, woot on the bathing suit and Wildchild’s success!

Younger son is home for a birthday weekend. (He’s working in Boston this summer.) We’re eating pie tonight along with rack of lamb, grilled eggplant and mashed potatoes. Good thing weekend desserts (for parties) are part of my eating plan!

Bobby f l a y s bar americain. Didn’t do to much damage to my waistline. Wallet a different story. Crazy place for a concert. Middle of a casino. Coffee time. Maybe some butlers.

B u r p e e s.

Great job and fast, MoWC’s son.

Weird exercise of the day: H and I went into the city to a museum. Afterwards we walked around a city lake and then rented a swan paddle boat. It turns out they’re good exercise for the legs! I walked about three miles earlier in the day. Hot and humid, normal summer 90’s.

Enjoy the concert. Dinner must have been fabulous there, idad.

Have fun, iDad. Sounds like a great dinner.

We will rock you. Deaf.

Wow, idad! Sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday evening.

I did it! I tried on the Runsie! It only took me 5 min to figure out how to get into that thing. It definitely looked cute with the 4" wedge shoes I was wearing. I would not pair it with the Hokas or Brooks. I passed on the Runsie, but got a long, slinky black dress that is amazingly comfy and looks simply awesome. It is pretty long, though, and it is apparently had been sent to only 20 or so Lulu stores. And -already sold out online.

Not much exercise-wise going on here today. Just my 25 morning and 25 evening pushups and weights.
