We (DH, S, and I) had a lesson on the Trikke yesterday and I can report it is fun and a great workout! We’re all enjoying it, though still learning how to “carve” efficiently. S said it should be pronounced “Tricky” instead of “Trike.” :)

Hell would probably look beautiful to an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker after surviving NH! The AT in NH is a stern test. But, everything I’ve seen in Maine is beautiful!

I’m sure you were plenty quick. I’m the world record holder in slow hiking.

love the Waylon YouTube, iDad.

I video’d some of the exercises in today’s workout:

[Geezer fitness workout](<a href=“Workout 6 - YouTube”>Workout 6 - YouTube)

Wow, idad! Very inspirational!
You rock those exercises. The sountrack is awesome, too!

Inspired by the video, I’m off to play with my orbitals. :D

Nice!

One comment though - it looks to me like your knees are getting too far forward on the squats. They are coming past the ends of your feet. I think your butt needs to go farther back.

Phew… A nice little kettlebell workout for me. :)

My weight is fully on my heels. That’s always been my major thought while squatting. I’d like to keep my upper body a little more upright. Of all the coaching tips on the squat I’ve heard/read (Mike Boyle, Mark Rippetoe, Dan John, Rachel Cosgrove, etc.), none of them say to keep the knee behind the toe in the two-legged squat. Boyle and Rippetoe both explicitly say that the knees have to move forward. The key point I’ve seen on knee position is that the knees not collapse inwards. Here’s how they teach it at Boyle’s:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6FVP3XSEIU

Here’s Mike Boyle himself, doing some jump squats.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxqw3BppfYA

I could probably initiate the squat with my butt going back a little better, but the exercise that is still killing me is the single leg deadlift. That is still ugly.

Wow, so great to read all the updates from the weekend.

On a sad note, sympathy to MOWC and family - how tough to lose a pet and especially when you are away from home. Blessings to your pet sitter for doing what she could.

Mathmom, big congrats on the long haul and many inches lost - doing it gradually is great and likely to stay that way!

Jealous of iDad’s Bobby Flay trip - and the concert surely was epic.

Was in a Lulu store in London, Ontario this weekend - no purchases but enjoyed looking to see what everyone else was buying! D is addicted to their headbands - Lulu headbands are the “in” thing to wear at her all girls high school - well, last year anyway!

Great weekend with plenty of food, some splurges but lots of activity too. Finally got some Canadian poutine and enjoyed every bite.
Mix of kayaking and long beach walks each day. A special moment when S decided to tag along on my run on Saturday - this time he didn’t pass me by, we ran side by side through the neighborhoods along the lake - priceless!

Sounds awesome, Abasket!
MomWC, so sorry about your kitty!

So, week 1 of “post-Armageddon” trail walk: did see a deer so suspect they’re recovering from the shock. Not a single mosquito on the cleared area…suspect they sprayed. You will recall I wear a Tilley hat and face net up there. So if I have to make lemonade from these lemons, I suppose that’s it.

Re kayaking…miss it and sad I’ve not been out yet this year. The friend with the launch is either too busy or too mosquito adverse (and doesn’t spray). I’m thinking I should likely get the kayak back and keep it here and just throw it up on the car when the mood strikes instead, because it always feels to weird to “go get it.”

iDad- your form is really good in the video. I’m struggling with the squat in yoga. It’s called Awkward Pose, and one of the problems is that we don’t have shoes on, which makes it harder.

Did a 3.1 mile walk with a few jogging breaks, which felt good. I’m not cleared to run yet, but I’m just doing a minute (well, maybe a couple 2 minutes) slow jogs. Got my heart rate up a little.

Thank you interested dad for ALL your great tips and links. The White mountains were mesmerizing! WOW out of my world geology and rocky pinnacles! You should hang out a shingle as a guide.
We extended our stay another dozen days and still feel like we missed so many breathtaking places. NH is Definitely on the list for a return visit.

MomofWildChild,
May you find peace. We loss a cat suddenly from cardiomyopathy. Heartbroken litter mate mourned/ cried at night for almost a year for him.

Thanks author. This was likely cardiomyopathy as well, probably with a clot in the lung.
We have lots of new careers lined up for iDad!
I tried some lake swimming just now and decided it wasn’t for me. I either needed a kayak with me or another swimmer. It just felt too creepy. Did about 5 minutes.

IDad- what Garmin watch do you have again? Lots of the triathletes have switched to the 220 for running since it is lighter than the 910. They use their bike computers for the cycling.

One interesting note about the girlfriend. She ran for Duke and graduated in 2010. Now appears that the coaches totally blew it with her. She ran the 800 and mile, did a lot of intensity workouts and was injured a lot. She was good but not great. Appears now that there was Olympic potential at 10K and maybe 5K based on some of the data they now have on her times and even bike power output numbers.

Some very interesting maps about food in our country:

18 is frightening.

Sixty-five minutes on the Cybex arc machine. Done. Did 3 sets of 12 squats.

Idad–never been to Mohegan Sun. Will look at the concert schedule.

Nre - nice find! Yes, that is scary.

2.5 warm humid is-it-over-yet miles tonight… But it’s something!

MOWC:

Hah, the youngsters at Mike Boyle’s coaching forum assure me that my exercise form would improve dramatically if I just worked out barefoot! Apparently wearing shoes is out of fashion…

I have the Garmin fenix 2. So far, it’s been great. Biggest advantage, for me, is real honest to god battery life of 12+ hours. I was routinely running out of battery on long hikes with the running watches.

AUTHOR:

Glad to hear that the hiking recommendations worked out. The White Mountains are pretty spectacular and the list of gorgeous hikes is seemingly endless.

I have no idea about the lasted exercise fashion,
but I almost always do my exercises (except running) barefoot. Mostly because I’m lazy to put shoes on (I walk around the house barefoot all the time). I’m sure shoes would add more stability, especially on the Bosu ball.
The kettlelbells looked good tonight, so that’s what I did.
