New kitty for the win!

It’s no secret I’m not a cat person, but those are adorable kitties, MOWC. You’ll need to share some pics.

Can’t wait to see your new avatar (Hawi)!

I am very partial to Norwegian Forest Cats. We have 3 of them and they act like puppies with us.

Keep up the good work, Sabaray! I’m so glad all of your hard work is paying off for you and your DH.

Kmc, ouch! Hope you’re back to the hill soon.

MoWC, I too am looking forward to a kitten avatar! Welcome Hawi!

Idad–great video of bear country.

I’m still north–dropping of S2 at school tomorrow. I’ve been doing a lot of walking, taking Zumba from a friend up here (argh–I feel like such a klutz but it’s a good workout), going to the local gym, and running. Yesterday I ran 4.5 miles on a road that borders the local bay beneath the bluffs. I just can’t believe how much better it is to run in cool weather. I envy you all these beautiful summers (although no thanks to the snow and cold. Here’s there’s still unmelted snow in a snowbank plowed up in a local parking lot). Anyway, there’s a hill on one of my routes that climbs the limestone escarpment. It’s a bit over a half mile and I get winded just walking the thing. However, before I leave I am going to attempt to run up the entire length and then down a gentle sloping road. I think I can, I think I can, lol. Today I ran up about half–slowly–and felt my heart rate fly up.

Here he is!

Awwwww… Sooo adorable! He is a doll. :)

So, so cute! I love the nose blaze!

My exercise today: 4 miles in my Hokas before it got really dark, plus a mile walk up the Capitol Hill in the morning. I think the hill will be my Friday walking challenge. :)

He is adorable! Hope he settled in after his big day.

PlantMom, isn’t it amazing what a difference the weather can make? You’ll have to let us know if you’re successful with your hill challenge. Around here there aren’t many options to avoid a hill - they are everywhere.

Did not make it for weights yesterday, but got 3 very humid miles in. Just really tired. I’m ready for fall. Pool workout today and then some rest.

MomWC, I’m sending you the slowly-back-in-saddle-mojo
sounds like there’s lots of competitive tri excitement around you these days. Here the Michigan “Titanium” ( iron length) is tomorrow. I’m feeling sorry for the athletes because its been cool all summer and now is suddenly muggy and hot…which will make it a bit brutal.

Though not as painful, I still can’t shoulder-check well when driving, so I’m gonna spike kayaking tomorrow morning as a spotter on the lake. Not sure I can handle the twisting to paddle, and if someone were in trouble, I’d not be much use. So I’m going out on my friend’s pontoon boat instead (electric motor.)

Sounds like a cop out but as much as I wanted to kayak, I also would like to avoid traction :)

Sabaray…like NRE said, you might want to experiment a little to see if you can tolerate other forms of magnesium. I do think you’ll notice quite a difference on the headache front. I barely get them any more. Mcson gets serious migranes and has the “inattentive type” ADHD. Magnesium and fish oil seem to really help him.

Sabaray, I havent used this product, but it claims to not have the laxative effect … You might want to try it at half or quarter doses to begin with if you decide to give it a whirl!

Thanks for the support, gang. I’m just surprised at how much more of a factor the heat/humidity is when I’m not as well conditioned.

I ran 2 slow miles (still felt hard) in mega-humidity and heat this morning while my daughter was in her triathlon swim. She is a very strong swimmer and gained a lot of places while I was slogging. She did well overall and won the “beginner” division which was for first time Olympic distance triathletes. She would have been 2nd in her age group. They had a very odd T1 (swim to bike transition) that involved a 1/2 mile run. Most of the athletes had running shoes by the swim for this, but a few ran barefoot on the pavement. Ugh. I was proud of her. It was just a horrible weather day. The picture I took of her after she finished with her proudly holding up her medal has a guy in the background lying on the ground getting IV fluids!

Congrats to your D, MOWC! Very exciting.

Completely unrelated to health and wellness but fun nonetheless, may I present “Dogs Annoying Cats with Their Friendship”:

<a href=“Dogs Annoying Cats with Their Friendship - Huffington Post - YouTube”>Dogs Annoying Cats with Their Friendship - Huffington Post - YouTube;

In SC on vacation for the week… 95+ every day, dew points in the upper 70s… brutal.

Apparently, French fries are the state food and mandated by law to be served at every meal. Crack and kryptonite in one… blergh.

Got a lot of walking in, but the humidity is so high you are drenched in 5 minutes.

Two mile walk today and yesterday.

Cute kitty MOWC. I have pet envy–missing my dog.

What’s the best brand of magnesium supplement? Is there a difference between what I get at my local health food store vs CVS ? Anyone know?

My best defense against french fries is a double order of slaw. Still has sugar, but I figure it’s the lesser of two evils.

I’ve been fighting off a minor cold. I woke up to go hiking/camping with a little scratchy throat. It persisted this week accompanied by headache and feverish feeling, so I’ve been taking it easy. Sore throat seems to be gone tonight…

No meaningful exercise for me except some mall walking. As you can guess, I raided the Lulu store and walked out with a large bag of awesome clearance goodies for the (almost) entire Bunsen clan, only SIL did not get anything because he is one of those folks who thinks if it did not come from REI, it is not wearable. :)

Congrats to your daughter MOWC!

Rainy day yesterday so couldn’t ride outside. So I spent much of the day starting the clean out of my basement in perpetration for remodeling to turn it into a formal training studio. Ugh, there’s a lot of stored stuff in there sharing space with all my workout equipment. Did an indoor wattage based ride for an hour consisting of 4 x10 minute over/ under FTP intervals. Also managed to mortify my daughter with a reply I posted to a Facebook post, lol, and then topped off the evening with dinner at the home of our closest friends. He is incapacitated with a bulging disk, so we brought the food (grass fed sirloin steaks and salmon from Wegmans and I barbecued on their grill. She made her special chewy chocolate brownies which I haven’t eaten in over 5 years. Yum!

This morning it’s beautiful out so off I go on a 40 + mile ride with my 2 favorite Sturdy Girls racers. From there, it’s off to an exercise equipment store to continue planning my studio.

Hello all, just checking in. Glad to see that mowc’s D had a good event, and not surprised how athletic your family is!

Lots of great hikes going on by many of you, I feel like I have gone on many virtual hikes in amazing locations.

I am still nursing a hip injury. I did 4.5 miles 2 weeks ago and may have gone too fast as I ran by myself, and I don’t think I had my heart rate monitor on, but I can’t remember. When i run with my girlfriends, we talk and they force me to go slower than when I run by myself, so I think I was like a pony running free. I felt pretty tight and stopped several times to stretch my IT band, and I finished, but it wasn’t pretty in terms of hip comfort. The next day and ever since I can’t walk smoothly when I get up from a chair, and certain stretches and PT exercises tell me the exact area I strained. So, I am rolling and stretching and am doing my old PT exercises, but still am not running. This weekend I had to cancel a race I had signed up to do. I am disappointed not to be running, so this week I am vowing to do whatever it takes to get back to it before I totally lose the conditioning I had built up. Grrr.
