Thanks for the update! Time tracker stopped working for me, so I had no idea what happened.

New update! 10:20 was right

10:20 sounds right based on her pace.

Yes, it is 10:20:06, 4th place in her age group. WOW!!!

10:20 for 4th. She’s thrilled and fine. Sore and chafed.
The winner, Sebastian Kienle fell over on the ground right in front of WildChild at the Energy Lab part of the course- got up and still won.

We are eating breakfast food and drinking beer.

They have a zillion volunteers and “walkers” that catch the finishers. Huge medical staff.

Breakfast food and beer - awesome! HUGE congrats to Em! Her run was absolutely unreal.

I’m exhausted and need to carbo load just hearing about it!!!

That is absolutely amazing. I cannot imagine the investment of time that went into training for that! Incredible result - big congratulations to her. Nice to see the work pay off.

WOOT to momwc’s em! Nice time! I’m delighted for you and your crew!

Congrats, Sabaray, on your long run. Glad to say I remember when you started all this ;)

Dad3…what I meant re shoes was to either shop at a place that will do a gait analysis and/or the foot pad computer, or see a podiatrist (likely even better) to get an imprint and an athletic orthotic to use with walking shoes. Foot pain (and knee or back pain) from walking usually means you need some kind of accommodation in your shoe. You need “performance tires” when you start putting on a lot of miles ;)

MOWC, congratulations to WC’s girlfriend Emily. That’s an incredible accomplishment. I hope everyone is decompressing and kicking back a bit from what must have been a few very stressful days between the travails of the traveling, equipment mishaps, mtn bike injuries and the competition!

Sabaray, yes, the investment of time needed to prepare for a triathlon, particularly at the level of the a Kona Iroman, is just immense. The focus, discipline and time management skills necessary to do that are overwhelming. I ride with a very accomplished cyclist racer who is doing an Ironman in Europe and he told me that it will be his first and last Ironman. When I asked him why, he said he never again wants to have to devote the amount of time necessary to properly prepare for an event like that and that it has taken over his life. Triathletes are some of the most devoted competitors I know.

It was also a successful weekend of competition in my family. My son competed in a national ju jiutsu competition yesterday and took gold medals in his weight class (lightweight, weighing in at
145) for both gi and no gi. The event ended up one competitor short in the cruiser weight division (170 - 190) due to an injury and my son volunteered to step in. He ended up taking silver. Said he lost to a 185 lb guy who sat on his head until my son tapped out lol. It’s not the first time he has jumped up weight classes and I marvel at how he is able to do that and hold his own. His training regimen is incredibly focused between nutritional planning, strength training and mat time.

Wow, what amazing young people! MNKat, you should be so proud! Such victories after incredible hard work training.

Emily’s run just floors me - after hours of competition to still be able to pull 7+ minute miles - for 26 miles - what an amazing accomplishment. Celebration earned!!!

Wow, congratulations to Emily for an amazing performance. You all must be so proud of her!

MNKat, congrats to your son too! Who knew one of the dangers of ju jiutsu was having your head sat on!

Dad of 3, when I first started running, I had terrible trouble with my knees, which turned out to be caused by my shoes. I recommend you see a sports medicine doctor to get a diagnosis, and go to a good running store, with staff who actually run, and run a lot, to get proper shoes. Don’t go to a retail place that tries to sell you an insert; based on my personal experience, I believe that recommendation should only come from a medical professional.

Abasket, what I find to be so gratifying, as a parent, as must others on this board who are parents, is the influence I have been able to have on my kids understanding the importance of good nutrition and fitness in their lives. My daughter, when she was a little girl, used to keep me company in our basement when I was working out. She’s now a very accomplished and well regarded fitness industry professional. My son posted on his facebook page a picture of him at 5 years old wearing a karate gi sparring with me and labeled it as his “first instructor”. When they were growing up, we never took them to fast food restaurants or filled the house with junk food. I never pushed either of them but simply tried to set examples in my own life and answer questions if asked. It goes to show you, as we read all the time about obesity and nutritional crisis with children, just how much influence family and parents in particular can have.

MNKat, Amen. You did it the right way - you set an example by striving for yourself and they saw that as a good thing and moved forward to seek that gratification for themselves. Savor being proud! :)

From MOWC’s Emily, to the Chicago Marathon this morning! I’m having fun tracking my cousin and good friend - from the comfort of my own home and my own hot cup of coffee - perfect! :)

Congrats to all the kids and their accomplishments this weekend.

Does anyone know if they run sales on regular priced clothing at Athleta? I have a pair of power stretch pants from years ago that I’ve worn out. I bought them at REI but don’t see that they sell them anymore. I found a pair at Athleta but they are more than I want to pay. The problem is that I really need the petite length and petite length workout clothing is really hard to find.

I receive Athleta emails quite often and I don’t recall getting emails for “20% off an item” type emails. They do have a pretty robust sale/clearance section online - did you check that area Deb??? They DO run additional % off of clearance/sale items too - I’ve picked up some great items from that sale.

My other tricky way to splurge on my Athleta stuff - I signed up for a GAP Visa - they have great point incentives - often run 2-3% back - then I earn bucks to use at Gap-Athleta (among others) - and I let myself splurge on something when I get my bucks back!

Congratulations to WC’s Em! And to your son, MNK! I’ll second abasket’s amen to your post about setting an example.

H and I just finished a 3 mile walk. It’s already toasty warm out there. Maybe there’s a gym visit in my future, later this afternoon. S2 is home on break.

Congratulations to your son, Michael. That’s really cool!

I’m exhausted. May not run today.

One other thing- several riders yesterday (mainly women) blew over and off the road due to the severe crosswinds.
Also, it’s a tradition for the athletes who have finished (even the pros) to go back to the finish line for the final hour and cheer in the last finishers. The course closes at the stoke of midnight and if you don’t make it, too bad. The kids went back over for it. It’s quite a party. The Mayor of Hawaii finished the race!
