sabaray, glad the brace helped. I think you need to get some vitamin I - it is possible that you have an inflamed tendon. Those braces cost a fortune, but they are still cheaper than an arm or a leg! Also, they are much less pain in the rear to put on than trying to tape the aching body part. I got my CEP knee braces from Zappos, too. Awesome customer service and easy returns. They are my running good luck charms now  I feel like I need to wear them like some folks feel the need to wear their talismans.

Happy Pre-New Year! Anybody doing a polar bear run and plunge tomorrow?

No Polar Bear stuff, but I might do a group run if I wake up in time.

We have a new Sr. VP at work who moved from Green Bay. He’s really enjoying running outside and thinks it’s hilarious that we think 30 degrees is cold. We’ll see how July works out for him!

I rang in the new year with a little kettlebell circuit. Back on the wagon. Laying off the junk food has been the biggest adjustment. Sheesh.

Oh, and nobody can say I’m not doing my part for improved Cuban/American relations. BBQ ribs and pulled pork from the freezer two nights in a row. Cuban mojo criollo sauce last night. Macon, GA style homemade BBQ sauce tonight. With a side of brussel sprouts!

Fruitcake and clementines are gone. Thank god.

I keep learning new things about my house guests’ eating requirements. “No peppers” means not even black pepper. “No spices” includes, well, onions apparently. rolleyes I am so glad I can eat ANYTHING.

Got my exercise last night dancing to a Cajun band. Such fun!

Idad–your food choices sound yummy. No fruitcake here but I have been gifted with various chocolates & nuts. Dark chocolates… DARK chocolates are calling to me…

Nice 7 mile run with the girls followed by breakfast. Great start to the new year!

What kind of trouble y’all getting yourselves into today? I’m awake?! Huh? Not a raindrop in sight. Looks like I better make something happen!

Happy 2015 everyone! As usual, your menu sounds delicious iDad!

Started the morning with a VERY brisk doggy walk - even he who can be poky was making me do a little running on the walk! My face was frozen by the time we got home! Kicked off the New Year with an egg omelet with sriracha on it - that’s gotta be good luck, right?

My husband noticed recently that the store with the lethal malted milk balls (too good!) also carries mayo with sriracha. Can’t remember if that product ever came up on the food fight thread, lol.

That mayo sounds great, Deborah. Anytihing with sriracha scores with me.

I ran 7.1 miles in gloomy 30 degrees. Pleased to do the 7.1 since the goal was 5-6. It’s supposed to be really rainy this weekend, so I took the opportunity to get the longer run done today. I am moderately sore from hot yoga and very tired, so it wasn’t just a terrific run, but I’m grateful to be running and to be outside.

Happy, Healthy New Year to all!

Well, we decided not to go to Stowe. The conditions at the moment are only so-so + it’s really cold + lift tickets during a holiday period are VERY expensive + S is visiting. We’re fortunate that we have a lot of flexibility and a free place to stay, so will just go to Stowe another time. (And by then we may have retrieved our snowshoes.)

Sunny but COLD here the last several days. My main exercise has been walking the puppy – although at times it’s not clear who is walking whom. In any case, it’s fast walking.

Another 7 mile run here. But in indoor 70 degree treadmill weather. Fitness resolutions:

  • more volume/time on feet emphasis vs. pace on distance runs
  • focus on lengthening stride
  • increase interval intensity
  • more plyometric/weight training
  • ignore perceived limitations
  • drop 10 lbs
  • limit sugar/diet pop
  • cut out late night snacking
  • more sleep!

Saw this running event listed today in my newsfeed - I won’t be doing it, but have to say, sounds like a fun fall activity! Anyone ever do something similar???

The Market to Market® Relay is what Ohio runners are talking about! A team running relay from Cincinnati to Dayton, the Market to Market® Relay Ohio covers 76 miles over 19 stages on a beautiful and varied course. Teams of 6, 7 or 8 runners hop in a van, run, rest and repeat. The course follows the Little Miami Scenic Trail, paved streets, back roads and urban trails through a wild and scenic slice of southwestern Ohio. Combine the running with outrageous costumes, memorable van rides, and a lively Post-Race Shindig at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton and it all adds up to 1 unforgettable day. This is one running event you won’t want to miss. Capacity is limited to only 250 teams.

Texas.

Cold and rainy today. Tried to run a little, but too stiff in the hip for outside, so went to the gym and stairclimbed instead. Surprisingly uncrowded for January first.

Enjoying the last days of school vacation before they return and fill up the parking lot at the pool.
Also adding hiking to my repertoire.
Where I can take the dog anyway.
My TNF snowboots are not that comfortable anymore, although they worked ok for snowshoeing, but they must be 25 yrs old, and now are mended with Seahawk duct tape, where my dog had some nibbles. They also are heavy.
So I ordered Keen winter hiking boots on sale at Rei on Tuesday & they were on my doorstep on Wednesday!
No more excuses, although I am starting out slow in the local parks which still can be fairly hilly.

Happy New year to all! Spent the night in with my wife, sharing 3/4 lb of shrimp, 2 14oz lobster tails, baked sweet potato, green beans and a bottle of proseco we brought back from Italy. Then topped the night off watching The Interview. What a delightfully wacky, wildly outrageous satiric movie with a combination of wit, fast paced dialogue, adolescent humor. Perfect way to end the old year and welcome in the new.

Then this morning, did a 50 mile bike ride in 30 degree temps with 15 mph winds. I really needed to be outside but I think I took leave of my senses. It was cold!!!

Michael- your post sounded great until the 30 degree bike ride. No thanks!

Haha, yeah, like I said, I think I took leave of my senses!

I could definitely tell it’s January 1. Everybody and their dog was out today!

We ran around in the back yard, mostly because we have a 5 year old visiting who needed his exercise, but it was good for all of us! Haven’t played that much tag in a long time.

On the food front, however, one of my guests is EXTREMELY picky, and with every meal I discover new limitations. Give me strength…
