Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Good news, the ankle area swelling and pain went away since I changed shoes. Not needing to ice or wrap. Doing the same running on the same course. 6 miles yesterday on the dirt track. Glad I am not having issues as I am in the 6th of 12 weeks of the half training. I thought I might have to drop out. OTOH, timing is not so good.

Proper shoes really do make a lot of difference. Glad you are seeing improvement Rocky!

Thank you to all! Parts of the stressful situation are coming to resolution - but it’s a long, long journey with a lot of emotion around it and it won’t be over for a long while. I’m at least doing better on the eating front and trying to keep that under control. All the muscle I built up is helping  THough I feel my stomach getting a roll back and not fitting into my skinny pants as much!! I REALLY appreciate all the kind words and support. Here’s hoping February is better!

I’m not waiting for February - I hope TODAY is better!

I did a pilates reformer class–almost finished with the package of classes and will sign up for another series. I think the reformer has helped me with ankle flexibility. My right ankle (which I broke and required multiple surgeries to fix) still has 1 screw remaining, so flexibility is always an issue for me. After the reformer class, I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the Cybex Arc (like an elliptical).

48 degrees and sunny.
Lulu long sleeve tee and crops.
Cap.
Gloves.
Peoples, doggies, ducks.

Just checking in for a little moral support. Was at the gym 3X last week and at the personal trainer, but have had a cold/flu/sinus infection this week so have cocooned and am not going to make it to the personal trainer today. Feel like am losing what little ground and momentum I had…

Try some steam for those sinuses, jym! Don’t lose that momentum. Reschedule the trainer.

Sinus infections bite. Feel better, Jym.

Good idea, sabaray. DH will go to the trainer today (we’ve been going together). I have some weights here but just feel awful. And thanks deborahT

Hope you feel better Jym - and I agree, reschedule the trainer so you have a commitment ready to go.

Thanks, abasket. We usually train on Mondays, so hope to rejoin the world of the living by then. I will reschedule the trainer, but would prefer to reschedule the massage therapist first

There’s your reward jym - massage to celebrate a five pound party!

And though I was not initially very motivated today, checking into this thread, a nudge by my daughter and the fact that I made a dozen cupcakes of which I plan to indulge in one tonight, I just finished a 30ish minute run outside, 39 degrees and cloudy. Lots of puddle dodging and jumping over snow/ice at block edges but was quite enjoyable.

Dressed a little too warm - Long sleeve North Face dri-fit, 1/4 zip NF, headband and gloves. No ducks.

Jym - it will get better.
No ducks here but a very very large black bird was literally blocking my jogging path way yesterday intentionally. I think someone must be feeding it and it thought I would. It finally moved out of the way when it saw I was not going to budge. Did this for several laps. Then flew away. Geesh.

jym, I agree - reschedule and look forward to it!

I discovered that my treadmill is a good remedy against my sinus issues. When I’m no longer running a fever or have achy muscles, I battle my residual colds by hopping on the treadmill. I would not go to any gym so I would not spread the bugs around. I run very slow, though.

The sun is out! Yay.

sabaray, thanks for thinking of me! I’ve been dealing with an unexpected health issue, and had to take a break from the marathon training. I just got some really, really good news today so I’m ready to start slogging back. I went out today and treated myself to a new garmin 620, and hope to get back to running tomorrow!

Hot yoga didn’t go so well today. I thought it felt unusually hot and the poses seemed more difficult. People started lying down pretty early on- including me. Finally the teacher (one of the owners) said that her classes are viewed as the hardest since she thinks it is her job to really challenge us and our job to know when to take breaks. My sweat was smelling like ammonia, which I don’t think is good. If I stood up for too long, I felt light-headed and had to go back down. Over half the class was doing the same thing. I made it through (with lots of breaks), but barely could get myself back dressed and back to work. I don’t think that is healthy and I’m not sure I want to keep going. Ugh.

Like Pizzagirl, I am having some incredible family stress, but I don’t think that was the problem today unless the whole rest of the class was, too!

Sounds like a real celebration was in order, blankmind. Looking forward to your progress reports!

Hot yoga does not sound fun. I think that description just cured me of any urge I ever had to try it.

Good to hear from you Blankmind - and happy that you are happy about your news and moving forward!

Because I truly don’t know, what is suppose to be the benefit/good of hot yoga??? It seriously sounds NOT healthy!
