Did a 90-minute spin class on Monday–it was a killer. I was going to bail on working out this morning, but decided to get up and go to the gym…
Worked with my trainer mostly upper body weight work. Finished with 40 minutes on the elliptical.

Good luck with your race RockyMT.

So we have had sleet and ice the past day in Dallas. They closed the schools for the second day today. I don’t drive in that, so I’ve gotten kind of stir crazy. Just took the dog for a walk, and right in broad daylight in my neighborhood, just crossed paths with a very large bobcat, larger than my 35 lb. golden doodle. I stopped dead in my tracks, praying the dog didn’t see it, because he would have gone after it, to very bad results. The cat first started to run off, but then turned and stared at us. I felt like he was sizing up the situation, wondering if he could take on my dog. I almost had a heart attack. He turned and walked away, so I did the same.

Kind of freaked me out. I’ve seen bobcats before out in west Texas where we have a lake house, but not this big and so close.

Abasket, the article was helpful and the comments. I remember when we did a 14er I brought sandwiches PBJ and never ate it, but I did eat the breakfast bars and the candy, couldn’t stomach much more at the top of the mountain.

Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement.

Nrds, Bobcats here do similar behavior. Just don’t run! Back away slowly as they tell our kids in school here and look big/ arms up , puffy look. Since having a cat I find them to be similar in behavior of staring. One day when D2 was 35 lb and had a confrontation with one in the front yard, I looked up behavior and saw they liked to eat ‘kids’ then realized the baby animals , not the human kind!

^^^^Yeah, I figured not a good idea to turn and run from a predator like that. I was looking around for a place to run if he came after the dog. It sounds awful, but I figured if he charged us, he’d go for the smaller of the two of us if I let go of the leash. All these things went through my mind in a split second. I feel bad about thinking I would sacrifice the dog, though.

Wow, that’s a story to tell Nrdsb4! Do you have woods nearby in the neighborhood?

That is scary, Nrdsb4. I don’t think I ever saw one while I was in Dallas. We see some small red foxes here in our neighborhood in TN occasionally.

I actually never heard of them eating dogs. Coyotes do eat dogs but prefer cats.
Bobcats can be intimidating. One hung around our house for several months like a domestic cat. Not sure what that was about. One day I was refinishing furniture in front of the garage. I picked up my drink to wait for drying and while walking to the door it came from behind me, walked nicely with me to the door, which I did not open for a while until it got bored and left. Probably the same one brushed up against D2 when she was little. We wondered if someone was feeding it. We never could figure out if the brush up was supposed to mark her as hers or if that was intimidation. She took it as the latter. It did hiss a little to her too. I was like a few feet away in the house and missed the whole scene. She was about 10 playing ball in the front yard. It then went to the back yard and was sunning on a rock! Interesting that the Dallas area has them around. That would be scary, hard for them to have an escape route and apparently used to being around people.
I wonder if they like dog or cat food that people leave out?

I live on the west side of our neighborhood, which backs to a golf course. But the east side is heavily wooded and backs to a large creek. Recently a developer purchased the land on the other side of the creek and has started working the land for a housing development. I’m sure it’s displacing some wildlife.

This was a pretty big bobcat. It unnerved me for sure.

Five miles on the dreaded Airdyne for me. I’ve talked myself into thinking it’s not that bad… No bobcats, but one of my kitties is curled up on a towel sleeping. She usually heads for the hills when I get on the Airdyne, but she must have been sleepy!

Ran for the first time since the injury. The knee was a little stiff (still bruised), but managed to do 3.6 miles on the Precor. If this “appliance” croaks, I will be a very unhappy camper! It is used more often than the oven in my house.

The heat is on (a nice and professional repair tech from a different co fixed the fan - a new furnace would cost $5-7K and mean major remodel in the garage), the new oven is sitting on the floor in the living room, and the knee is on the mend. That should end the trifecta, I guess.

Yikes on the bobcat! We have coyotes on our street, but they are very skittish and run at the first sight of a human. Someone saw a black bear nearby a few months ago, but those are also not interested in runners (black bears come out on the days the garbage is out for collection!).

Good morning.
A few weeks back there were “big cat” paw prints in the snow up the hill on my trail. My cruising companions discussed the likelihood of bobcats being the culprit. I have no experience with bobcats but I hope they’re afraid of trudging/panting sounds

Nrdsb4, I think your instincts were perfectly acceptable

Idad, I did a few minutes of solidarity airdyne for ya last night. It wasn’t pretty…

It’s a busy, busy work week. Spin class today and no time for anything extra. I was by far the oldest in my class by at least 20 years and I never had to slow down as some of the others did - so there is that!!!

Woo hoo Abasket! Show it to those youngsters

I’m so boring. More skiing. Yesterday we got idk, maybe 8" of new snow, it pretty much snowed all day. I didn’t do anything yesterday, I should have ran on the treadmill but was lazy. Today I had errands to run and really didn’t want to ski but I got out there. And was so glad, some days you have to push yourself, you never regret it.

I hear you Abasket–my yoga studio is full of 30-something stay-at-home moms who are very into yoga. I always feel good when I finish a class and realize I’ve hung in there with all of these young women! Went to the class today (it was a hot yoga flow class) and the studio owner was taking the class . She come up after class and told me how much I had improved and that she loved @
“my practice.” (She taught the two beginner classes that I took.) My H says she’s BSing me but I choose to believe her. A little flattery does wonders for one’s motivation.

Skiing? Boring? Only if it is downhill skiing.

nrdsb- completely agree with kmc, your instincts were spot on.

Thanks for the moral support on the Airdyne. It’s not pretty for me, either!

I’m in Napa for a seminar and I got to run in shorts and a t-shirt OUTSIDE for the first time in months! I did 3 miles as soon as I got here and then rushed off to my first session. My legs actually had to adjust to outside running after a week and a half on the dreadmill. It’s hilly here, too. I wanted one run in the sun because I’m going to have to be out in the dark the next few mornings (brought the headlamp). I am exhausted- flight was at 6:25am and a long day of travel.

Cross country skiing is wonderful and HARD! I never mastered getting off the ski lifts on my cross country skis and always landed in a heap.

Bunsen- glad the knee is healing up.

7 x 400 speed work, and 30 min of upper body weights.

5 miles on treadmill. 9/8/7/6 minute pace per quarter mile for each mile. Last quarter at 5 min pace. Swimming after. Getting faster. Will spin/cycle tonight then take it easy until Sunday triathlon. Gotta get mind right!
