Nrdsb4-that sounds awful! You seem to know exactly what it is and what to expect, though, so that is probably helpful.

CBBBlinker-I hope you kick that cold soon, it sounds miserable. Glad you are enjoying the geneology.

No run for me last night, just too cold/windy/snowy. I need to get a long run in tomorrow. The forecast doesn’t look very nice for it, though.

Sorry, nrdbs. That sounds painful and I know you are frustrated with it!

8.5 miles in Napa this morning. Started in pitch dark at 5:30am with my headlamp. It got light before 4 miles. I was on some country roads and it was REALLY dark! Rolling hills and beautiful. Glad I got that done since I missed my half marathon last Saturday due to the ice and I have one next Saturday. Now if I can just stay awake today in the seminar!

Rapid healing nrdsb4 and kmcmom.

To all of you hanging your TRXs from palm trees and sipping pina coladas on the beach, eat your heart out. I spent a nice sunny afternoon snow shoeing on a frozen lake. So take that!

So sorry, nrdsb4

nrdsb4:

When your back feels better, you can get on board with Tom Brady’s plank regime. Based on the photo he posted on his facebook page this week, he stepped up his program after starting out with his toddler boy on his back:

But, can he do them with his feet in a TRX?

NRD–Yikes!! Rest and take care of your back. MOWC–don’t know if you’re in the town of Napa but one of the best meals I’ve had was at Morimoto. If it’s close and you get a chance–I’d try it.

Thursday I did a session of Pilates reformer class. I’ve been at it for 2 months now and feel like I’m getting the hang of it. Followed that with a training session where we mostly did upper body work with free weights. My trainer likes to keep me moving for the whole session so she’ll have me jog around the gym area or work with battle ropes or do box jumps between sets with weights. I felt like I got a really great workout yesterday.

Today was “warm” so I ventured out with two friends and we did a 5 mile walk. Managed to stay safe by going on roads in our town that weren’t well traveled (I live in a semi-rural area and we don’t have sidewalks).

Thanks all. I knew someone was going to mention the hated planks. I know they are good for you, but I just DESPISE them. But I’ve got to stop this cycle. I was hurt this morning, and then merely trying to get up from my chair, I felt more tearing. It really does feel like a painful electric shock. I’ve taken some anti-inflammatories but have gotten no relief. The good thing is that as horribly painful as this feels, I’m not having the pains running down my legs or any other peripheral neuro symptoms, just really bad pain at the disc. That’s actually a good sign I think.

We’ve had snow all day, so I didn’t attempt to see my doc today. Don’t need a wreck on top of this.

So I just poured a glass of red wine. Maybe it will take the edge off or will make me care less.

To all who were able to get out there and work out, good job and count your blessings!

I did a nice 3.5 miles on the snow shoes. Actually the track was packed down enough that MicroSpikes would have been fine, but the snow shoes make for a better workout on relatively flat terrain. Went out to the point the middle of the lake and then did part of the return on the frozen lake. It was balmy, right around 20 degrees. Little breezy, but not too bad.

^^^Wow, “balmy” 20 degrees.

Balmy 19 degrees here, an hour of XC skiing. H took a half day so we went somewhere new. It was above my skill level but he loved it. He did say that I’ve became much better so there was that.

Nrdsb4, take care of yourself. I did that a few years ago (making a bed of all things). Hurts like crazy! My back was sore that summer.

I found my limit on the temperature, 2 degrees air temperature, below 0 wind chill. Yesterday it was 2 when I started and 3 when I ended. I never warmed up and it was misreable.

It’s warming up this weekend to the mid 20’s. Will be skiing everyday until the snow turns into an icy mess. It’s coming soon, probably by next weekend. :frowning:

Good job all on the nice variety of activities! And no activities for you Nrdb until you are healed!!!

3 miles on the track/treadmill at the gym. Glad to get it done!!!

We had a few snowshoes hikes last weekend, but it was old, icy snow, and pretty uneven. Comparatively the xcountry skiing was easier on my ankles, even if I had to walk down a hill or two, because I didn’t feel like falling.
I fell anyway, when I wasn’t paying attention, because I ran over a twig!
But I fell on my butt & didn’t hurt anything but my ego.

Hah. I fall down on snowshoes. Embarrassing. Fortunately I managed to stay upright today.

20 degrees is actually a really nice temp for snow shoeing. I wore a long sleeve baselayer and a thin stretchy “running” hoody with breathable panels. Cold enough that I didn’t get sweaty, but not so cold that my nose froze.

Saw a family strapping on x-country skis. Mom, Dad, and FOUR toddler/grade school kids. That had to be a challenging outing. Right up there with herding cats, I imagine. I set off out ahead of them and set a good pace…

Ek I usually fall when I’m standing still. It’s the same as falling when clipped into your bike, usually when you stop and fall over on the side you didn’t unclip lol!

I’m scared of icy snow too. So hard to control anything.

Skiing! What a great activity. I wanted to go X-country skiing this winter so badly, but my weekends have been filled with stupid stuff like shopping for ovens and fixing furnaces!

For me, the danger zone is trying to step over a fallen tree with snow shoes on. I can get myself in all kinds of a tangled mess if I don’t pay attention. It’s easy to forget that I’ve got 2 feet of aluminum on my feet!

Snow shoeing on the frozen lake was great. Bright sunshine, clear blue sky. Smooth track where the snowmobiles had packed down the snow. A lot of times the ice looks a little sketchy near shore, but it was frozen solid today after the bitter cold we’ve had. I don’t think it’s been above freezing for six weeks.

We are at Silverado Resort, so out of town a little bit. Tonight we are at Louis & Martini winery for dinner and wine- lots of wine. We’ve had some good food!

Napa has great food! Enjoy, MOfWC. Hope you get to spend at least a part of the weekend there.

Good job with the snowshoes, iDad.
BB- I’m flying to Vegas in the morning to visit a friend before I go home on Monday. I’ll get one more run here in the am before I head out.

Nrdsb4: Sending healing thoughts your way.

Tomorrow I’m off on a beach vacation where the low at night is in the mid-70s. If snow and cold follow me there, I give up. The plan is to take a vacation from CC for a week, and read a few books instead. Good exercising and eating, everyone!
