Pizzagirl, that’s exactly how Mr. B and I ran together until he injured his knee: since I was so much faster, I would run ahead of him, then turn around and run past him, turn again… I ran in circles around him while moving forward! I hope you can do this during the race.
No danger of 120 rpm for me!
I think the fastest I’ve ever pedalled the Airdyne is just over 100 rpm and that’s a 10 second all out interval followed by a staggering collapse away from the bike…
Dreaded Airdyne for me again today. Five miles.Topped out somewhere around 65 rpm.
I am home- temporarily at least. Got to run outside in TN for the first time in over 2 weeks. 3.1 miles late afternoon. Legs are tired from the Nevada hilly run and the flat 5 mile hike. Feels good to be back in the central time zone.
Took my presumptive future in laws treadmill shopping yesterday. (And yes, that’s odd terminology but our almost 26 year old daughter and their 31 year old son have been together for 8 years, they’ve planned every detail of their wedding, we all take family vacations together, they take our daughter on their family vacations, we take him on ours, our daughter and his mother do gym dates together - the only thing missing is a formal proposal and engagement which they’ve hinted is coming in the Spring and about which his father has told me I may threaten his son with a shotgun if it does not - but I digress ). They felt strongly that they needed a folding treadmill and after looking at and testing several models, we all concluded that the Life Fitness F3 suited their needs best. It was a lot of fun and the best was that I got to play in an exercise equipment store but spend someone else’s money!
Have to share this:

Well, “can be done at home” does not mean one should just hop on the treadmill and run until s/he pukes. IMO, it is wise to know your limits or at least have a buddy - armed with a cell phone and trained in CPR - watching you.
In all seriousness, that article is frightenly irresponsible to the extent that it suggests to the general public that it’s ok to engage in a maximal cardio stress test without qualified supervision. It wasn’t just for purposes of data collection that the study was done in a controlled environment with trained technicians using cardiac monitoring equipment and medical personnel on hand.
^indeed.
Punched the clock on my mile/hill this a.m. In blizzard-ish conditions…felt like I was in a survival movie
I know, MNK! I kept reading it to see if they say anything about safety issues and precautions. Nope. The lifestrong reference to the test at least has a small disclaimer about who should not even try this!
Walked all over the city yesterday! Probably, walked 4+ miles.
@ohiopublic, don’t fret. I’m impressed with your effort. Sounds pretty Herculean to me!
@Pizzagirl, that is such a nice thing you are doing for your friend. I hope you keep us posted on her progress.
Nrdsb4, wondering how the back is doing?
^^^^^Thank you. This was a bad incident. I still need help from DH to get up from the couch or chair, and putting on my pants is an exercise in frustration. It’s just a matter of giving it time to heal. Hopefully I won’t have to do the rehab thing or start talking about injections, which I have done in the past. I am walking some around the house and doing a few things I learned in physical therapy the last time, but the acute stage usually just means dealing with the pain, using heat or cold at intervals, and taking anti-inflammatories. We did have to cancel a trip to Mexico with friends, but our accommodations were free and our flights were using miles, so other than the disappointment, we didn’t lose out too much.
The first two days, I had to use the elevator to get upstairs to my bedroom, but at least I’m able to navigate up the stairs today.
Nrdbsb4- Wow. I’m SO sorry this is such a bad incident. It sounds horrible. I’m sorry about your trip, too.
I’m heading to northern Ohio tomorrow morning where it will be bitter cold. I may be stuck in the hotel gym for my running. I’ll take outdoor stuff, but it doesn’t sound good.
MOWC - no need to worry about our weather tomorrow if you are in NEOhio. Should be a balmy 34 degrees.
30 and sunny tomorrow in NW Ohio. But both NW and NE Ohio got a few inches of snow on Sunday and today, a nice coating of ice - all this on top of inches/feet of old snow/ice - unless you get really lucky with an area that is exceptional with cleaning the roads, etc. - you’ll be rocking the treadmill.
Sandusky. It looked like the forecast was colder than 30s. My favorite basketball player of all time is from there, though- Scott May. I had a cat (well, 2) named after him.
Ah yes, drove by Sandusky yesterday! How do you feel about running on the slick frozen lake???
Better tomorrow than today - roads are a bit hellish out there today.
Sorry to hear about the back injury, nrdsb4.
I have been exercising in slow motion mode. It’s very humbling. I started C25K over, again, and yesterday I got back up to 3.5 miles of run/walk on the treadmill. I’m trying to build up strength in my ankle, gradually…gently. I’ve been walking although only about three miles each day. I’m using weight machines at the gym for the arms. It’s getting hot already (apologies to you dealing with the other extreme, for my complaint), but with 90 degrees in the forecast for the next few days, I’m feeling discouraged about even going outside for the walk. Feeling mopey.
Glad to hear from you PlantMom - apologies if I’m not remembering - of course I do remember your ankle injury but did you end up getting a diagnosis or specific treatment for it? This has been a long haul for you, but very good progress to hear that you are back being active - 3.5 treadmill miles is good, solid exercise!
As much as I want it warmer, I’d really like to settle for something “between” zero and 90!!!
Work-out with trainer–TRX and core work, some work with free weights–her goal was a cardio/strength workout (cardio part was stair climbing, box jumps, battle ropes, jogging around the gym). I finished with 30 minutes on the ARC machine and another 30 on the treadmill.
PlantMom–sorry your recovery is going slowly, but you’ve started, which is a big step.
