C3Baker, how incredibly sad. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Beach run early this morning–maybe 2.5 miles–and beach walking this afternoon. Absolutely gorgeous, perfect day.

Abasket - yes, thank you! Spring break of sorts.
Thanks everyone. I had a good workout at the gym with my trainer tonight. A lot of TRX and core work.
CBBBlinker-the mysterious bloody sock sounds very troubling. Amazing that you don’t feel anything when you are running. Stupid question, but are your toenails trimmed short?
Abasket-I am curious about your lunchtime workouts. Do you have a really long lunch hour and/or how do you manage to get cleaned up to get back to work afterwards? Even if I had the luxury of being able to take a shower after a lunchtime workout, my hair is always drenched after a workout so that’s even more work to get looking OK for work.
iDad-so glad that the fans are gone and that you had such a fabulous time at the concert! After all that loud white noise of the fans, it must have been a real treat for your ears to be blasted with actual music!
BunsenBurner-Hawaii sounds wonderful! Glad you are having a good time. Are you snorkeling or scuba diving?
About my lunchtime workouts…
First of all, I have a flexible schedule - and I make my own, so I don’t really report to anyone - I don’t actually “take a lunch” ever - bring my lunch and eat at my desk just taking a mental break. So, no specific lunch hour to have to stay within.
Next, we have a fitness center at work right on campus. Handy! I can walk to it in less than 5 minutes. Many of the classes around lunchtime are 30-45 minutes - to meet the needs of staff at lunch time. That helps.
Sometimes I will take a quick shower. I have the routine down pat! I’m a no nonsense person in terms of getting ready. Shower, dry off, dress and then stick my head under the high powered dryer for 3 mins. No make up and short hair! I am also the master of the “sponge bath” for times when I don’t have time for a full shower.
I’ll admit I arrive back at my desk still very rosy cheeked and the first thing I do is put on my desk fan. But I fully cool down within a few minutes. When my schedule allows, I will go to the fitness center mid-afternoon for track/treadmill - at that point, I can go back to my desk with my Marmot pants and a fitness pullover and work for another hour as is - it’s not a problem most of the time.
Awesome pull up record! I’m still a few shy of 4000 in a day.
Slept like a baby last night – without the jet airplane noise and steady breeze of four industrial fans in my bedroom. It was really wearing on me and a huge relief to not be woken up throughout the night.
Winter has returned with a vengeance. Headed for 11 degrees tonight. Couldn’t get the basement gym warmed up, so it was a whirl on the dreaded Airdyne for me. I thought tomorrow might be a hiking day, but temps in the 20s with a 25 mph wind don’t sound that pleasant. I might do something short and local.
Getting real tired of the cold. Teased us with 65 on Monday. 30s today so I wimped out and did indoor intervals of 200s/400s. Felt fast. Leg speed, turnover, acceleration and drive sort of happened midway through workout. Let’s hope I’m entering a new phase. Would love to get those young fast twitch muscles back.
Tell me about it, ohiopublic! Weather forecast is now calling from anywhere from 1-6 inches of snow on Friday in the region where I will be riding the Hell of Hunterdon on Saturday. Freezing temperatures on Friday, mid-fifties on Saturday. The ride promoter now says everyone should bring 2 sets of riding clothing and expect tons of mud on the gravel and dirt toad sections, not to mention the ridiculous pothole craters. And I’m doing this for fun?
Abasket, wow how great to be able to take lunch break on site and shower. Millenniums should demand this of the workplace.
I remember when the Baby Boomers wanted daycare on site and that was in very limited places (I used one when D1 was young).
Taking a break ,fun visiting in Brooklyn. Been walking daily here , it is still chilly. Walking speed is faster than home.
Michael- be careful!
Exercise facilities and locker rooms are just about required in any corporate headquarters or larger offices these days. We have excellent facilities in our new building and it was something that had been resisted in the past. We have access to a nice ( but short) walk/run path and good neighborhoods, too. We are going to offer yoga classes and we have spin bikes. This is a huge change and a great benefit.
Michael, your bike ride doesn’t sound very fun. Yikes.
Good run this morning, 6.25 miles. We’re due for an unpleasant rain and snow mix starting tonight. Planning a longer run of 11 or 12 this weekend so hopefully the weather will cooperate.
Cardio (stationary bike) + weights today. My bike ride was 6+ miles, which is probably my longest in quite some time.
MNK - somehow your ride on Saturday doesn’t sound like fun, at least to me. Hope it goes well.
C3Baker - not really a stupid question – I’d say it’s a logical one. But the answer is, yes, my nails are short. I haven’t changed shoes, so really don’t know what’s causing it. I’m “scheduled” to run tomorrow (I do every other day) but may try walking outside instead.
Momofwild, I think we are too rural. We work at a large government facility and they have nothing and only a half hour lunch break… no negotiations…the large hospital system in town is no better. Obviously behind the times.
It’s interesting because our fitness center at work was previously owned by the medical center/university (that’s when I joined, then taken over and staff by the local YMCA system - for the last several years. As an employee, I was able to get a reduced family membership rate. (it has much more to offer than a typical Y because part of the space is at times used for cardiac rehab, etc.). End of this month, the med center/univ is ending the relationship with the Y and is taking it back - at that time all employees (and students) will have FREE access to the facility. I anticipate New Year’s Resolution 2.1 at that point - a temporary increase of people using the facility - because it’s free - but that eventually - like after New Year’s - many of the people will go back to their sedentary lifestyles.
That’s ok - this time of year I prefer to be outside more when I can.
Reformer class today and then I did a yoga class at my gym. Trainer workout on Wednesday–lots of body weight exercises and TRX. Looking forward to getting out of New England next week!
Today’s run felt great. Of course I haven’t been tackling any hills lately…
Well, common sense apparently prevailed. The Hell of Hunterdon has been postponed to April 4 due to the anticipated road conditions this Saturday. Upside - it will be warmer and hopefully drier by April 4. Downside - now I’m relegated again to riding indoors this weekend … Unless I put my cyclocross race wheels back on my cross bike and ride snowy trails. Now that could be fun!
I’m glad to hear that, Michael. I’m heading to Florida tomorrow for some sun, sand and flat running. Ft. Myers. It is very gloomy here today, and I’m trying to work up to going outside after work.
I woke up this morning with (I think) a plantar fasciitis flare up. I’m going to take a cardio night off and sleep with my Strasburg Sock tonight.
Yikes, ohio! Take care of your feet.
MNK, I’m glad they moved the ride to a later date! Fingers crossed, the hell will unfreeze by then!
Went down the basement to workout. 52 degrees. I think it’s the days of industrial fans, but I have zero cold tolerance right now. So, I trudged up the stairs and hopped on the dreaded Airdyne for a quick 5 miles.
MKAT: sounds like the organizers of your bike ride had a late surge of common sense. Although I did see someone unloading a bike at the local Audubon Center the last time I was there on snowshoes (walking across the frozen lake). It was glare ice. I assume they must have had some kind of studded tires. Still, I’d end up in an orthopaedics ward, without fail…
