IDad, the current new bike craze is the “fat tire” bikes that are touted as all terrain, all conditions bikes that have wheel/tire combinations the size of Harley Davidson full dresser wheels. Run with low inflation and they can be ridden in snow, sand, anywhere.
I’m pretty sure WildChild has one of those fat tire bikes in his collection. He is buying a house in the Poconos, by the way, to set up as a training center.
That’s very cool MOWC. It is so beautiful in the Poconos. Great place to escape and train.
Oh wow! Good for him.
Yeah- I hope it all works out. They are going to live there most of the time and he will commute in to Phila for a few days a week. His employer seems to be willing to accommodate a lot…
Enjoy, MoWC! I’m on one of the islands off Ft. Myers right now and it is gorgeous, Florida at its best.
Two beach walks today.
Thanks! Looking forward to it.
Enjoy the break from crazy weather, MOfWC! Sunshine is therapeutic.
Michael, I too am glad they postponed. One year the Barry Roubaix was quite icy and there were too many crashes and injuries. So here’s hoping for better weather April 4!
MomWC, enjoy your trip south! Cool about wildson’s new digs. Here’s a ridiculously expensive but apt housewarming gift for him http://www.iintrepidinc.com/iiintrepid/2012/2/27/innovative-storage-design-the-bookbike-by-byografia.html
(I found out about these because my friend’s husband wants one…guess his garage is too full with the REST of his bikes )
As you can imagine, the fat tire bikes are quite popular in these parts with the snow we get. But I still think getting through snow has more to do with the power of the peddler than the tires
(In Idadian-speak, that’s like 30 miles on the airdyne…)
kmcmom13, I keep telling my wife that my bikes belong in our living room bout I don’t think she’ll go for 7 of those bike bookcases :).
That is pretty cool, kmc! I better not show my husband. Son and young Ms. Pro Triathlete have at least 6 bikes in their living room/training studio.
They plan to get one of those endless pools for the Poconos house. It’s like a swimming treadmill.
2 laps very fast walking around my favorite local reservoir – the “very fast” was to keep warm on this first day of spring. Snow in the forecast for later today. So, yeah, Happy Spring to all.
Well, I thought by walking instead of running I wouldn’t end up with a “bloody sock” but I did anyway. Not as much, but some. With close inspection it seems I have a couple small breaks in the skin at the end of 2 of my toes. No idea what caused this; hopefully things will heal up quickly. Hard to bandage toes …
Those endless pools are awesome! The original Endless Pool company (there are others, too) has been around for quite a while! The apartment complex where we lived after getting married had one of their laminar flow “hot tubs” - I loved swimming in it!
Bye-bye fishes! Back to the mainland!
I have seen those fat tire bikes for sale but have not tried to ride one. I have not seen one in action. They were so big I could not even get on one . I’m 5ft tall. There is a stupid after work free program called MOVE but it is like walking a couple miles and for weight loss which I do not need.
I am motivated by all you’re workouts to return to this on Monday. Currently visiting D and not fit in the schedule right now. I think our bodies needed a rest from the half a week ago anyway. Is that enough rationalization?
MOWC, I saw a pool like that for the first time this past fall. I don’t know if it was an official endless pool, but it was an indoor resistance lap pool. The couple had a really nice barbeque setup out on the patio, too.
I had a good 6.2 mile run last night. Today’s exercise is just walking. I am planning on a long run tomorrow morning.
Ohiopublic-sorry to hear about the plantar fascitis flare-up. I battled that for a long time and it is awful. It sounds as if you’ve had it before so hopefully you know the best way to combat it that works for you. My sympathies!
MOWC-enjoy your Florida trip! Your son’s plans sound awesome.
MNK-I am so glad to hear that your race has been postponed. Surely the weather will be better in April! (Isn’t that what we all thought about March?)
abasket-your fitness facility sounds amazing, especially with all the opportunities for classes. It’s great that you are able to exercise like that during the day.
Plantmom-beach walks sound so good right now…
I’ll second those beach walks (keep telling myself, “it’s coming!”)
Any of the ladies want to try exercising in these new Nike styles???
http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_eye/2015/03/20/nikelab_and_sacai_collaboration_the_sportswear_collection_is_tone_deaf_and.html
Abasket, I think you should try a few of those styles out and report back!
First Day of Spring! 3.5 mile run - NOT wearing any of that featured clothing above! Friday splurging on some fish fry - hold the french fries.
Those Nike styles are ridiculous looking, IMO. Exactly NONE of them will be on my shopping list!
