Good luck sabaray!
Fleet feet sabaray.
Good luck sabaray.
Sounds like a race today? I am so not up on all posts. Good luck, Sabaray!
Good luck to sabaray!
We’ve had friends visiting at the beach – where it’s lovely and sunny, but decidedly NOT beach-like in terms of temperature! She and I went out walking both yesterday and today (she doesn’t run), which was good, but she doesn’t walk nearly as fast as I do, so I felt as if I wasn’t really getting a good workout. Oh well, something is better than nothing, right? She lost her clip-on Fitbit at some point when we were out and about yesterday, so was pretty bummed about that. I think I’ve convinced her to replace it with a wristband model.
Best to Sabaray and anyone else racing this weekend. I can’t even imagine running for three miles straight right now, since I’ve only just finished the 3 minute running segment of the training program! Back in the day, (like over 40 years ago) I ran sprints and threw the javelin in college. In those days, we never ran much more than a couple of miles, even in training. If I can finish the C25K program and successfully complete a 5k, I will be thrilled. Although I harbor dreams of running a marathon, I suspect I will be happy to continue logging 10-15 miles a week while trying the racing thing via 5k races. On to Week 4 on Monday, finished Week 3 today even though I had two off days since Wednesday. Got up this morning and headed out. It feels good to accomplish things! Though yesterday felt a nice day in February, today seems a little more spring-like. More like March than the end of April, but the sun is out and I’ll take it!
Idad, your yummy green bean recipe sounds similar to how I make green beans for Thanksgiving. I add chopped tomatoes to the garlic/butter and sprinkle balsamic vinegar in when I add the beans.
Wanted to share this:
Got my 10 mile run in this morning. Most of it was in the rain, but that was OK since it was a light rain. Now we have heavy rain with thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon so I am glad I have it out of the way. I am sore and my legs hurt so I am going to take it easy for the next week.
Sabaray-I was thinking of you this morning, I hope your race went well! Looking forward to hearing all about it.
runnersmom-you threw the javelin? That is really cool! You’re doing great with the C25K, and you’re right - it does feel good to accomplish things!
iDad and BunsenBurner - your green bean recipes sound fabulous. I have a hard time with the “ton of butter” but I need to stop worrying so much about every little calories and enjoy. I would probably eat more veggies if I were more willing to do things like add butter.
CBBBlinker-sorry about your friend losing her Fitbit. I lost my Force for a week once and I was really upset, so I understand. I think the wristband trackers are a lot better. Even though they aren’t as accurate, I think they are good enough and the peace of mind in not losing them is priceless.
Have been thinking of Sabaray all morning - just hoping you have a good time and are satisfied with the finish!
iDad you had me at “lots of butter”. YUM.
CBB, I have a friend who likes to walk with me. It is sometimes difficult for me to look at it as a workout as she does walk a good bit slower than I would. I finally adopted the attitude that steps are steps and that these walks are just some icing on the cake in terms of exercise.
Senior Prom Day at our house for D2! I’ll be exercising my iPhone camera to capture some good photos!
“I have a hard time with the “ton of butter” but I need to stop worrying so much about every little calories and enjoy.”
You can use EVOO, too, or cut down on butter.
Thanks for all the support everyone. I’m sorry I can’t give you all a better report.
Today was hugely disappointing in terms of performance, but there’s not much you can do when you can’t breathe through your nose. Around 40 degrees at the start with no wind and overcast skies. First four miles were okay, about a minute slower than I’d been running in training so around 10:30. Then the intermittent stinging ice crystals from the sky started. Then the “gently rolling hills” started to wear me down. I ended up doing 4/1 intervals just so I could finish. It’s done. I got a shirt, a hat, a medal and I finished ahead of everyone who stayed home. It’s just disappointing to have training go so well only to get sick the week before. Oh well! We then went to breakfast, so a good time with friends made up for it. I will now be enjoying my peppermint tea and a nap while licking my wounded ego.
sabaray, you said it - you finished ahead of everyone who stayed home. There! You are a hero in my books, because (pansy) BB would not have ran with a cold.
I know how disappointing this can be… You train, and then crud happens. I busted my tail in 80-degree weather trying to BQ, registered for Boston, and then wrecked my knee…
“It’s done” - and sometimes, that is where you have to gain your satisfaction. That under the less than best circumstances you showed up, pulled up your running panties and got to the finish line. The finish line is the satisfaction.
Sip that tea slowly. The weather conditions sounded pretty awful. Health issues beyond your control. But your training DID pay off because you adjusted your pace/intervals because you knew that’s how you had a chance.
Relax this weekend and get back on your pony when you’re ready in the coming days!
CBB:
The temperatures in New England this week have been downright disgusting. It looks like spring, but you go outside and it’s 42 degrees with a howling wind. Near freezing at night.
On butter and veggies. The thing is, green beans are essentially zero calories. So, even if you add 1 TBS of butter per person, you are still looking at just 120 calories per person for a huge pile of green veggie, that is quite filling. I’m not eating rice or potatoes or pasta, so I’m always looking for ways to cook fresh veggies.
EVOO, garlic, and balsamic had always been my go-to for green beans, but this simple butter and garlic was amazing.
Sabaray, to even think about going for a run when you are sick is amazing in my book. I can’t bring myself to exercise when I can’t breathe.
Sabaray- sorry your illness prevailed. Every finish gives you a good bump in race fitness. Congrats on getting it done.
iDad, at this point I’m inclined to think it was just stupid, but it’s done. If I was smarter I would have started with intervals and probably would have had a better result. Live and learn!
@sabaray, you win some and you lose some. In my book, you are a winner, though. I’ve never run more than 5K, so yours still seems like such a great accomplishment. To do that while sick is impressive.
Get warm and cozy and take a good nap!
Sabaray - YOU competed.
Sabaray, I agree that you are a winner for just going to the start line – if I were sick, I’d have stayed home. I think you did really well given that your body was not anywhere close to peak condition.
I went running today in a pair of Hokas courtesy of the new running store and the Hoka rep. Not sure what I think of them. I don’t run long distances, and I don’t run many times a week, so I’m not sure I “need” them. I’ll add that I ran in the Constant – I did like the color (purple)!
