Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

fireandrain, Hokas mold to your foot after a very short adjustment period. If you tried on a brand new pair, they might feel weird at first, but they become heavenly after 4 miles, as MOfWC says.

Love purple. I have a purple and yellow Huakas - they fit right in here in the Husky country.

6 miles in my purple and yellow beauties.

Wow. Diet Pepsi is tweaking its recipe by replacing aspartame with other sweeteners:

5k hilly walk for me. Had to be the coldest 52 degrees ever. Stiff breeze. I wore long running pants and a long sleeve 1/4 zip top and was freezing. And that was the warmest its been in a week.

sabaray, just the fact that you were out there is a win! There will be times in the life of any athlete that things are just ā€œoffā€ for any of a variety of circumstances and you find yourself asking just what in the world you are doing out there. I recall an earlier thread where we were all talking about how it’s ok to have days where we are ā€œless thanā€ and we give ourselves permission to back off without recrimination. You had one but you persevered and prevailed!

sabaray – to echo many others, you’re a winner in my book! I can’t even contemplate running that far, even in the best of health. Kudos to you!

abasket – i agree with your ā€œit’s the steps that countā€ philosophy. And I do enjoy walking with someone once in a while, so the slower pace is worth it. I did take the dog for a VERY speedy walk yesterday after our friends left, though – fortunately she walks as fast as I can go!

idad – agree with your assessment of spring, or lack thereof, here in New England. Yuck!!!

We’re headed back to MA for a week for various meetings, appointments, etc before ā€œmovingā€ to the beach for the season. While we’re there I want to go to the Marathon Sports store around the corner from us to have my running style/gait assessed and get recommendations for running shoes. I’ve been just going to Dick’s to try on several and picking the pair that feels best. It will be interesting to see what the ā€œexpertsā€ say.

sabaray, good job on the race. Stinging ice crystals and hills is a tough combination, even on a good day!

I’m still plugging along with my long term marathon plan. My goal is to run the LA Marathon next year. I’m hoping the gods of running injuries will not interfere.

@CBBBlinker report back what the shoe experts say! Always good for us to be reminded of the value of a good fitting/eval!

Also, FULLY jealous of your move to the ā€œbeachā€ for the season! My H is on his way to our place on Lake Huron in Canada to open up as we speak - can’t wait for the weather to get itself in gear so that we can go and enjoy it without plunging temperatures!

Got up at 5:30 to be ready to ride at sunrise. Did 1 and 1/2 hours on a sunny morning in the 60s with only a gentle breeze. Heaven.

Ran 2 miles this morning. This is the first time I’ve purposefully dialed it back - ie, not tried to increase my distance - since starting C25K. Felt so good to come back from the run refreshed rather than totally spent!

4 miles, felt tons better than Friday so I’m considering it a win.

Looking good on the gloves front (don’t ask!) so I think I’ll head out for another walk today. Strength workout yesterday.

Sabaray–you did great in my book. Running when not feeling up to par is hard and you did it.

Spent the weekend opening up our vacation place–I enjoy seeing all the changes that take place during the winter. This sun was shining all weekend but it was cold and windy. I got in Some walking on the beach yesterday and today.

Idad–butter and garlic with green beans is a favorite of mine. Sometimes I add chopped shallots to the butter and garlic.

Strength training yesterday, bike ride today followed by putting out deck furniture to make room for snow blower in sh. First client tomorrow night - yay!

Dreaded. Airdyne. Gotta do it. Too damn gray, damp, and cold for anything else. Got some good tunes on the shuffle playlist, pushed it from the get go, finished with a kick at 60 rpm and knocked 40 seconds off my previous best time for a 5-miler. Tried to keep up a 55 rpm pace, plus or minus a couple. I do better on the Airdyne if I find approximately the right pace and then just close my eyes and pedal.

Back from Florida. No long run this week due to the schedule down there with the meetings, etc. Just did 4.8 on my dreadmill- it was gloomy and windy outside, so I watched Blue Bloods while I ran.

Lots of weather gloom yet it seems. Sunny here today, but we can’t seem to get out of the 50’s. Exercise today limited to a couple of walks and an hour or so of digging, turning over soil, pulling weeds and ā€œsmoothingā€ out the dirt.

All kinds of severe weather in Texas tonight. Several tornadoes already reported. Supposedly expecting severe weather here in Dallas through the night. Glad I got my long ride in this morning, because I don’t think I’ll get to ride for the next couple of days due to the forecast for a couple of days of rain.

Stay safe, Nrdsb4!

^^^thanks. The radar is showing weather chaos all around us, but it falls apart right before it gets to Ft. Worth. Weatherman says that won’t last and to expect possible hail and severe storms. I like thunder but not hail! And certainly not tornadoes.
