6 mile hike along the beach cliffs at Torrey Pines, then down to the beach with my women’s hiking group. Gorgeous day. Hiking is definitely harder on my legs & feet than running, strangely enough, but I count it as a strength-building cross training. Sounds like everyone had a good weekend of getting out & about!
4.5 miles walking in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park yesterday. Gertrude, even walking on uneven paths and hilly terrain is harder on my legs and knees that jogging on my treadmill! I realized that this morning as I completed Day 1 of Week 4. The five minute running segments seemed very doable, but that 20 minutes at the end of the week, regardless of how slowly I will run it, is daunting. The weather yesterday couldn’t have been better and though I felt very old among all the young families and couples enjoying the park (mini-mite tee-ball anyone!), it felt good to be out among all the people in the sun. We started with great falafel from a food truck in Grand Army Plaza, then proceeded to walk it off! Perfect day.
Michael- you are NOT helpful! 4.3 mile trail run this morning (which I rarely do). I had 1/2 mile on pavement and then the trail, which is really a dirt road but has lots of rocks that have been poured on it- I guess for erosion prevention. It was slow going and I had to be REALLY careful. It was pretty, though. Views of the lake and mountains here in the Poconos. Today we are unpacking a lot of the moved stuff. Not as tough as yesterday, but still not great fun. I’m trying to keep up with the day job, too. Gorgeous day, though- mid 70s and mostly sunny.
Runnersmom, what helped me get through that 20 minute run was to tell myself that it would just be about 5 songs worth - and then to focus on one song at a time. Once I got past the 10 minute mark, I just knew I could do the countdown to 20!
7 miles this morning, beautiful moon to look at - one of the benefits of getting out there early! Our local hot yoga studio is having a special workshop for new students who are apprehensive in a few weeks so I signed up for that - we will see if hot yoga is for me or not. One of the nice things about the students leaving for the summer is the multitude of “special offers” at the yoga and Pilates studios. They want to keep those classes full! I’m looking forward to a more diverse exercise schedule this summer.
Rode the bike for 1hour and 15 minutes, though I had a stomach ache most of the time. Hope to go longer tomorrow as we are expecting several days of rain. Starting tomorrow afternoon.
Sounds like people are really getting outside and enjoying the nice warm weather in many places.
@runnersmom - I was very nervous as well about that 20 minute run (just completed that about 4 weeks ago, maybe less!) & thought I might not be able to do it & would get discouraged & quit the program. I kind of psychologically prepared for it by laying out my running clothes ahead of time, carefully picking out a playlist that was my favorite upbeat songs & making sure that the songs got shorter as I went. And as it turns out, during the run the challenge was all mental - not stopping just because it would feel good to stop. And boy what a high when I completed it! It’s worth it - I’ll be thinking of you when the day comes.
Ugh, resorted to the treadmill at the gym today because it was SUPPOSE to be thunderstorming all day so I thought I’d just “get it done” while on campus. Home now and it’s bright and sunny. Dang weather.
That must have been spectacular. Pretty nice place to hike! Anything off-road is going to be slower and more tiring than walking/running on pavement. Especially if you add hills, which you surely did along the Torrey Pines cliffs.
Fourth day in a row of walking for me. I did the long 4 mile loop at the Audubon Center. Sunny and 85 degrees. Yikes, what happened to spring? I had the heat on in the house yesterday. The sunshine felt great and it was nice being warm and sweaty after a very long winter. Trying to get my hiking legs back. Probably take advantage of the heat wave again on Wednesday.
6 miles around Ohio State campus and Olentangy River
I was enjoying the sunshine so much, I even turned my ball cap around backwards, bro’ style, to get some sun on my face. Now, there’s a good look for a geezer!
All of NH was in shorts today. The pasty white skin across the state was blinding… First day of shorts after a winter like we had is not a pretty sight…
First day of shorts is something to celebrate in my book!!! Yeah!!!
Cheers to shorts (and swimsuits!)
It was super nice yesterday to aquajog after doing the hill. I love that combo!
Broke out the running skirt this morning…another beautiful morning. 6.25 miles followed by walking with H and the pups. Great way to start the day.
I like that- Bro’ IDad!
Shorts for me this morning in the Poconos. I am exhausted from the moving, unpacking etc. Fly home this afternoon and I can’t wait! 4.1 pretty and hilly miles this morning.
Yesterday was a shorts day for me, too. Hoping to see race results posted soon.
Wow, the sun is rising earlier and earlier these days-6:32 am today!
Rode hard for the entire hour. Will do a leisurely dog walk in a little while to unwind a bit.
Did you run a race this weekend DebT???
I just love shorts weather! It does seem as if there was no spring to speak of. I did a workout with the new trainer last night and it was OK. I still don’t feel as if I’m working hard enough. We had thunderstorms all day/evening/night so no outdoor work in the evening. Today looks better so I will be getting plenty of exercise shoveling and hauling rock tonight.
runnersmom-what day will you be doing the 20 minute run? I’ll be virtually cheering you on!
MOWC-you are a good mom for all that helping with the move! Packing/moving/unpacking is the worst! Have a safe trip home.
