Glad to hear everything went well MOWC!
Sounds like good news, MOWC. Loved the bit about tattoos and IV needles.
Cybex Arc + weights this morning. Yesterday I was over 20,000 steps as the result of running + golf. I’m driving back to Cambridge in a couple hours, so today I may not make even 10K.
4 hot sweaty trail miles. I forgot my garmin so I don’t know if the run actually happened but I sure am stinky ;). I turned on map my run on my phone but it’s not the same.
Glad to hear the eye surgery went well, MOWC!
I’m running a local 5K tonight. It’s the first in a series of 3 races, although the other two are in September and October. They’ve already sent out an email warning about the heat and humidity. I think it will be fine for a 5K, but I wouldn’t want to be running a half marathon in this weather!
Deb922-Haha on not knowing if your run happened since you didn’t have your Garmin! I love seeing the results from my Garmin and would hate if I forgot it.
I used to freak out if I forgot my Garmin! I would look at the mile markers (which are somewhat randomly scattered along the trail) and do some mental math using those and the time on my phone. As the result, I had 7 minute miles and 9 minute miles…
In fitness gizmos news, Fitbit went IPO today. trading as high as 31-freakin’-bucks per share (earlier in the week, estimates were about half of that!). Holy cow.
Workout with trainer and an hour on the Cybex arc. Last few days I worked out in the late afternoon/early evening (6-7pm) today I went at 8 am. What a difference–I was dragging and really had to push myself to finish in the pm, but today I felt great! Really surprised me. Back to vacation place tomorrow for a few weeks!
One hour ride. G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S.
I love exercise endorphins.
MOWC–glad that surgery went well!
I saw that about the FitBit IPO.
My back is killing me from trying to look down all day, so I ordered the medical face down chair. I rented it for a week and can extend. I’ll use it at home. It looks like a massage chair but has a table top under the face part for a work station, so you can be face down (tilted that way) and still work or read. My sister said I would never make it without the chair. It’s just too much of a strain on the back to be in that position as much as I need to. Hopefully insurance will cover some of it. I called a place on the internet and it came to my house 2 hours later. Not bad. I wish it came with a massage therapist.
I feel pretty lousy. I overdid it today trying to be at the meeting I missed in DC by telephone- most of the day. My boss is not happy with me (for working), but I felt so bad about missing the DC meeting. I feel worse about missing my high school reunion, though.
I have never heard of that kind of chair - wow, sounds like it could be really helpful for you!
It’s time for you to feel good about something though this week - your surgery, missing your reunion, aching back, missed work - I say it’s time for some ice cream!!! Head down, walk to the freezer!!
(here’s hoping you have a better day tomorrow!)
The weather has been so crappy - hot, muggy, rainy. The humidity is so high it feels like you could make a mush ball out of a handful of air! Worst of all, the weather on Friday and Saturday will likely delay completion of my fitness playground beyond Father’s Day. The Monkey Bars and the chin bars may be done by Sunday, but not the cargo net but even if it were all completed, we’re supposed to get heavy “tropical rain” (in Philadelphia, yeah, right, tropical) all day on Sunday! Best laid plans and all that
MOWC, sorry to hear you are in such discomfort. Hopefully it will pass quickly.
Hi everyone - we’re heading up to LA this weekend for the memorial service for my niece’s husband. It will be good to see family, but it will be a tough couple of days emotion-wise. We were hoping the dear baby would be there, but he is still in NICU. He’s expected home soon though.
D and I ran this morning - ti was already over 80 degrees at 8 AM and now she understands why I prefer 6 AM. We’ve completed week 2 of C25K - so excited that she is sticking with it so far.
Hang in there MOWC - hopefully the 2 weeks will pass quickly!
So sorry Gertrude, what a sad time for your family.
19 mile bike ride. I’m not sure how much I love biking, I like running better. But I’m trying to do something every day and I like the calories burned on the bike.
I feel bad complaining but I am in a terrible mood today. My H has been working a ton of hours but finally has this weekend off. We are going to my il’s. I’m. In a bad mood because I feel pressured into it, I want to be home with my H. We are going to be sitting around their house and we want to get out and do stuff. Yea I know I need to suck it up. Father’s Day is hard since my dad died.
I kind of forget that it’s Father’s Day weekend! Clearly, we don’t have plans.
I can understand your annoyance- is it possible that even while visiting the in laws you and H can get out for a/some short excursions??? I know a break off the couch would make my mood much better. Either that or realize that you need to make a run to the drug store - but make it the mall/park/movies/walking trail.
Lunch time spin class and 1.5 miles around the track. I’ll be spending the weekend starting to get ready for my first vacation abroad next week!!!
D is coming home for the weekend - I have a beautiful run planned with friends bright and early, then D and I are headed for a repeat combo yoga/pilates session. It’s been a stressful week and I’m looking forward to her visit.
Deb, I know how you feel about Father’s Day. I really miss my dad too. I also know how you feel about an overworked husband - there are so many demands on his time and sometimes I feel like saying “Hey! Don’t I ever get seniority around here?”
Hope today’s a better day, MOWC. Everyday that includes ice cream is usually a better one.
Hugs, Gertrude. Knocking on wood for the tiny one.
deb, abasket has some good ideas. I cannot imagine that your inlaws would want to spend this entire weekend sitting around the house, so your H should not feel guilty about taking some time for a small outing with you. Bet the inlaws can use a small break from you, too.
Did a bunch of free weight exercises last night. At first, my muscles felt like balloons stuffed with cotton balls, but then I got them going! Even topped the routine off with pushups - feet on the bed, as usual.
It’s going to be a lot longer than 2 weeks before I can run, I’m afraid. You just can’t take any chances with this stuff. For now, I am not even supposed to walk on the treadmill. Just can’t jostle the eye much. No lifting, etc.
I feel your pain, MOfWC! Hang in there.
Thanks everyone, I’m just feeling sorry for myself. Holidays such as these are even harder than birthdays and such. I miss the kids, they are so far away and holidays that I get to spend with my il’s bring that painfully through for me.
I will get out for a run or something. I’ll ask my sil, she and I are better partners than the H. He might run or maybe bring his bike and go out for awhile.
Mostly I’m missing my dad and my kids. It will pass.
MOWC, I wanted to say something. I’m so glad you are taking the doctors advice and following it. I think it would be easy to disregard what he is saying and downplay your situation. Think about how strong you are for not running. It takes more to quit the streak than to keep it going.
