Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Thanks, deb, but it isn’t really an issue. I could lose my vision if I don’t do exactly what I am supposed to do. At the very least, any activity could cause the retina to detach again. There was no question that I had to stop doing everything.

MOWC, wishing you a speedy and full recovery. Hugs.

Thanks, Deborah. I feel absolutely horrible. The problem with running/exercising every day is that when you suddenly stop, your body doesn’t know what hit it!

Please come here and rant as much as you need to, MOfWC. More hugs!

Sabaray, I hear you about the overworked spouse. Had to tell him this week that he will NOT be going in to the office on Father’s Day. One night this week he was home for less than eight hours before he was back at work again. He’s married to the job – I seem to be the mistress.

Healing thoughts to all in need, either physically or emotionally. D is coming down to the beach for Father’s Day Weekend, which is lovely. (We’re a quick train ride from Boston, so it’s pretty easy.) We haven’t seen S since New Year’s, but I’m sure he’ll call tomorrow – if only because I’ve already started sending reminder texts …

No real exercise for me yesterday, so early this morning I took the dog for a very long (for her) walk – 2.25 miles. She did great and is now sound asleep!

1 hour and 1 minute, 7.5 miles on the Beer Trail. Yay, I have not been here in weeks! The everyday crap like exams, work, vacation, home stuff, and heat kept us off the trail. Gorgeous day, light breeze and sunny, but I would not have wanted to hit the trail a minute later than we did, because it was already too hot to run on the way back too the park. Wore the pleat to street Lulu skirt with the bottom stripe to honor MOfWC’s heroic recovery from her surgery. Hang in there, MOfWC. One day closer to full recovery!

Thanks, Bunsen. Good run!
I walked a VERY slow mile on the treadmill (21 minutes) this morning, looking down at my feet so I was face down. I’m allowed to do that- no jostling. I felt the treadmill was safer than outside with much less trip hazard. I walked around in front of the house a little just to get some fresh air-looking down. This is getting really old. My husband and daughter did an organized ride this morning here in Franklin- it’s called the Harpeth River Ride and it’s a big deal. They did the 62 mile route and did well. She’s gotten really strong on the bike. Her first half ironman distance tri is at the end of July and it’s a flat course (today was big hills), so I think she’ll do great. I had other friends running Grandma’s Marathon/Half in Duluth- one (male) ran 2:30 marathon (was trying to break 2:30) and his wife was in the porto-potty when the gun went off and had to run through the slower runners and let it get to her. Still ran 1:28 half. Another female over 40 friend PRd with a 3:42 marathon. I love that race. I’m feeling sorry for myself, BUT my baseball team (Vandy) is in the World Series finals, so there’s that…

Still extremely hot and humid here, but we had a nice scenic run through the countryside near what was once an active volcano (say, 40+ million years ago). Needless to say the area is quite hilly and we were quite slow, but it was a good run - very challenging terrain. D and I then went to combo yoga/Pilates - it was outdoors, and it was even hotter - mid eighties and about 80% humidity. I did not feel so great after that.

Sounds like a nice run, Bunsen - and good times for your friends, MOWC. I love how your daughter is finding her stride.

Baby steps, MOfWC, baby steps! Good for your D - with a training ride like that, your D will do fine in her tri.

My friend is running a marathon this weekend, but it was not the Grandma’s, because she’s already ran it. Grandma’s is on my marathon bucket list… Sounds like your friends had good races, MOfWC!

Sabaray, 80 degrees and 80% humidity would melt me like a ball of wax. Kudos!

Bunsen, how was that skirt for running? I read a review that said it was too flowy and kept bunching up between the reviewer’s legs.

It was just perfect for me! I wore it with a longer tank top (I think it was called TaTa toper - yup, that’s the one:
http://www.lululemon.com.au/products/clothes-accessories/anti-stink/Run-Ta-Ta-Topper )
that covered the top portion of the skirt… maybe that’s why it was not riding up or bunching. I liked it much better than the other skirts with the flat fronts. The skirt portion is really lightweight, so it did not add any bulk, and the built-in briefs were comfortable and stretchy. I kept my ID and some money in the side pocket and did not even feel it was there. Loved the skirt.

I ran in mine last week and it was fine. It is light! I read that it runs a little large so I went with a LuLu 4 instead of a 6.

You are right, MOfWC. I buy size 8 Lulu shorts because I like them a but loose, but went with a 6 in this skirt.

Thanks for that information! I decided to order it in the iris flower color, and went down a size.

Iris flower? Yikes, I need that!

LOL Bunsen. I was thinking that, too.

Boom! Lulu has Stuff Your Bra bra… only in black, but goshdarnit they are the best running bras for my upper part of the body! Ordered. Paired with the yellow and purple Hokas, it makes a great Dawgs outfit. Let’s see if the big kiddo expropriates it from my closet for that particular reason.

Hang in there MOWC. One day at a time till you’re cleared.

Happy Father’s Day to all of our Dads out there!
