Yes! Happy Father’s Day to our CC dads!
1 1/2 mile slow walk outside- looking down. At least I got some fresh air- hot air! My temporary goal is to get 10000 steps on the Vivofit. I made it yesterday. Should make it today.
We’re back from LA - the memorial service was heavy and sad, with a few people sobbing throughout. Oy - it was hard to see so many people in pain.
Today should be much more normal. Ran/walked a couple miles with D this morning (we’re up to running 3 minutes at a stretch, which doesn’t sound like much, but a month ago I couldn’t run 30 seconds with my hip issues, so 3 minutes is huge!) We’re taking DH to eat sushi for lunch for Father’s Day, then I have the rest of the day to putter around.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!
MOWC, it’s clear you are driven! As long as you have the doc A-OK, good for you. Does looking down make you dizzy??
Happy Father’s Day to all our CC Dads ! You are great fitness examples to your children.
So sorry, Gertrude. Glad you are home.
Looking down doesn’t make me dizzy, but only having one eye sort of does. I am just trying to be very, very careful. I am not going to go to work for a couple more days. I decided my set up at home is better, and I can’t look at anyone anyway since I’m supposed to be looking down. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I have my work computer on our kitchen island with the screen tilted back almost flat, so I’m standing and looking down at it.
My standing/adjustable work station arrives at work tomorrow, but I still think I’m better here at home with my facedown chair and the ability to rest more. Plus- I can’t drive myself yet.
Gertrude, hugs.
MOfWC, smart decision.
Today’s exercise was yardwork: I declared a war on the ground cover ivy. I’ve been too busy this winter, and the sucker slithered out of its designated area on the retaining wall!! It was so dry, the ivy was full of pollen and dust… the ivy is neatly trimmed, but I’m still sneezing.
So sorry, Gertrude. What a difficult time.
Had a fun weekend with D here at the beach, in spite of yesterday’s rain. We cooked lobster at home for Father’s Day; tried something new (for us) as a side – grilled hearts of romaine lettuce. Yummy! S called after several reminder texts.
D’s train back to Boston left at 6:00 this morning, which put me at the gym much earlier than usual. 5.08 miles & 10,000 steps done by 7:30 AM. Now it’s on to more of the never-ending weeding.
Walked 2.2 miles outside and did OK. One of my runner-neighbors stopped her run to walk with me for part of it, which was nice. I had some new Dwight Yoakam music for the rest. I looked down at my feet for most of it. It was something, at least.
I was very lazy Sunday and skipped mat class, but I was tired from Saturday. Ran 6.7 this morning, felt pretty good. Heat and humidity is just awful. Was worried that Sabadog had injured his back leg as he had a bit of a limp last night but he seemed as exuberant as ever this morning. He’s a true weekend warrior.
Glad you had some company, MOWC. Staying home for a few more days sounds like the right call. I hope you all will be bearing with me for the next 18 weeks - the countdown to October has begun. I need you all to remind me that marathon training does not mean I can have all the beer and donuts I want.
^^^^
What? My hopes are now dashed sabaray
Took a long walk yesterday with my sil and we are going to do another one today if the storms hold off at her cottage.
Been eating like crazy though.
Exciting, sabaray! We’ll get you through it!
Yay, sabaray! The donut police (lol) is on standby. B-)
Well, although the first 5K I’ve registered for is in San Diego during a conference at the end of September, I’ve finally reached the final week of the C25K program. Completed the 30 minute run + 5 minute warmup today (2.89 miles) and am looking forward to keeping this up! Thanks for all the support everyone, I’m sure I’ll continue checking in to keep me on track. MOWC, I hope you continue to heal and know you’ll be able to get back to running as soon as the doctor clears you. I’m impressed with all you managed to do while keeping your head down!
Just getting caught up on everyone’s news. It’s been a busy few days for me. I ran a 5K on Thursday evening and was happy that I won my age group. Saturday morning was a 10 mile run. In between has just been a lot of yard work. It never ends. I’m planning a run tonight in some new running shoes I picked up on Saturday. I went to our local running store a couple weeks ago to get my free birthday socks and the guy talked me into buying some Altra shoes. They felt like heaven with so much room for my toes. I have super wide feet and always have trouble with my toes. They had to order the color that I wanted and so tonight will be my first run with the new shoes.
Deb922-I’m glad your sil is walking with you and that you’re able to get outside for some activity. I can so relate to dreading going to the in-laws and sitting around.
MOWC-it is good to hear that you are following doctors orders and that you’re also able to get some walking in.
Michael-I hope you had a good Father’s Day and maybe the weather cooperated for initiating your playground?
I did it - I registered for my first marathon! November 7 sounds so far away, but I know the weeks will fly by.
^^^WOW, congrats to all the race signer-uppers!!!
And I hear ya on the yard work - it has rained here almost daily for the past few weeks - we are still cutting grass at least twice a week and the weeds are thriving like mad! I have the mosquito bites to prove it!!! Spend hours Friday - Sunday either mowing or gardening or weeding. The running afterwards was the easy part!
I stand ready to take one of those donuts out of Sabaray’s reach.
C3Baker- What Altras did you get. I’ve worn them for about 3 years and like them a lot. My favorite are the Paradigms. Congrats on the age group win and on the marathon commitment.
@runnersmom - I’m in San Diego as well - let me know if you’d like company to run the 5K! I should be back to that level by then. Is it the Hula Dash?
It’s actually the NACAC (I’m an indpendent college advisor!) End of the Day 5K. I’d love more company, but I think it may be restricted to conference participants. Looking for a new career? :
@gertrudeMcFuzz, how are you feeling? I stop every day and thank whomever’s looking out for me that I am still pain free. After so many years of severe knee pain and issues, I feel like I’m tempting the gods with this running business, but so far, so good.
C3Baker, I had a great Father’s Day, thanks! The weather did delay completion of the playground. Only the Monkey a bars were up. But they were fun for my daughter and me. It was gratifying to discover I can still go up and back (28 feet total) lol. Hopefully the rest will be up by the end of the weekend. Half the framework for the cargo net/ladder/climbing rope is done. It is massive. Took 3 of us to raise it off the ground. Kinda like an Amish barn raising
