Ran 7.5 this am - in the fifties! Felt great. Taking a Reformer class this afternoon.

Interesting article about those transformation photos:

Saturday morning was a challenging 8 mile run. The challenge came from flooded-out roads and trails on our planned run route. We had to do some major improv to find a way around. So not as much hill work in the run as had been planned. It’s unbelievable how much rain we have had for just days and weeks on end. It’s not actively raining right now, just very gloomy with the ever-present chance of isolated thunderstorms. I am planning on a run after work, rain or not.

runnersmom-unless you have the Fitbit Surge that has a GPS, the mileage from the Fitbit isn’t going to be very accurate. It calculates distance based off the number of steps you take and your stride length, which is going to be longer when you run than when you walk. If you’re going to be doing a lot of running, you might want to get a Garmin for accurate distance/pace information. Or you can use Mapmyrun or one of the other phone apps since the phone has GPS. I love, love, love the Fitbit but it isn’t designed to give you accurate running mileage.

MOWC-glad that you are getting more vision back in your left eye. That bubble sounds really annoying.

BunsenBurner-I wish I could send you some of our rain! I hope you can stay cool through your heat wave.

Nrdsb4-Interesting article and pictures on those transformation photos. Over the past few years I have lost 40+ lb and gotten pretty fit between gym workouts and running. But oh the wrinkles and sagging skin - I’m never going to be a good “after” photo no matter how good the lighting is!

It is 90 degrees outside. Yikes. I am itching to go for a run, but the itch might disappear after my commute. Supposed to get to 70 after 9 pm. Lovely.

This morning was supposed to be a running day, but I walked instead. On Friday I managed to roll my ankle while walking the golf course, so I decided not to push things. A little less than 4.5 miles.

85 degrees, 4 miles… This is officially the hottest 4 miles I ever ran! B-)

Nice job, BB! That temp is well beyond my limit. We still have standing water from our weekend deluge - did you get your run in last night, C3Baker?

New shoes are arriving today…Lulu order tomorrow…going to be a good weekend!

Glad that today is a rest day. Really enjoyed my Reformer class yesterday - it was an intermediate level class but I was able to complete everything without difficulty, so I can really see and feel progress. Switching studios/instructors was the best decision ever!

I think I may have to get some sort of GPS app on my phone. Went for a really long walk early this morning and my Fitbit only tracked 2.6 miles in an hour, when I know I went further than that. I walked faster than a 25 minute mile when I started working out. I don’t mind a minor undercounting of steps, but geez, if I’m going to do the work, I want credit!

sabaray- what shoes and what Lulu? Inquiring minds…

I hate to say it, but nothing too exciting! Another pair of Wunder Unders (cranberry), a pair of the Groove shorts (black), and this singlet in the purple stripe:

I like their tanks because they remind me every time I wear them that I need to keep exercising! No hiding any bumps or bulges in those. The bras are so cute but unfortunately won’t work for me. I’m spreading out my clothing purchases so Mr. Sabaray doesn’t become suspicious of where all his money is going!

Shoes are a repeat - I like the Asics 2000 so got another pair in a different color - if it isn’t broke and all that. They worked well for the fall 2014 marathon, hoping they’ll continue to work well. The Mizunos just didn’t do it for me - I rolled my ankle while wearing them - only thing I really preferred was the lighter weight.

I saw that singlet in the store. It’s cute.

Cranberry Wunder Unders sound awesome. I like this singlet, too, sabaray.

I have no idea what I’m going to do tomorrow with my longer run, lol. One thing for sure: I will carry lots of water and will run S-L-O-W-L-Y. If these temperatures persist, I will be breaking all sorts of personal hot weather running records.

runnersmom-You might want to update your stride length in Fitbit. You need to do it on the web portal (not on the phone app, at least I don’t think you can). If you’re on your dashboard, click the gear and select Settings. Then scroll down to Body Info and you can enter your stride length and running stride length. I think if you don’t enter anything the default is something they calculate based on your height and use that stride length along with your step count to calculate mileage. But if your mileage is consistently off so much, your stride length may be quite different from what their algorithm is using. Also, there’s a lot of good info on the Fitbit Community Help Forums. But if you really want super accurate distance info, you’ll need something with GPS like one of the phone apps or a GPS watch.

BB-wow, that is a pretty awesome run at 85 degrees. Do you have air conditioning at home or are you just melting in the heat?

I got a good 5 mile run in last night, no rain at all. Yay! More thunderstorms this morning, but it has cleared off now. Stinking hot and humid, but at least it’s not raining. I am planning another run tonight, but realized it needs to be a short one as the cat has a vet appointment this evening. Just vaccines and regular check-up, but he is so skittish that this will set him off for a week. Sigh.

C3Baker, I dunno what I would find less enjoyable - taking my cats to the vet or running in 85 degrees. I think I’d pick the latter! We don’t have AC at home, but the ceiling fan does a decent enough job in the bedroom at night.

I ran 4 miles today in my new Hokas! I bought Constants – in purple.

I had gone into a running store to try on Hokas, and the clerk cautioned me because they lack support – I pronate. She took a slow-motion video of me running in the Bondis, and sure enough you can see my ankles collapsing. I went online and learned that Hoka now makes the Constant for that very reason, so I bought them. I liked running in them – so they’re a keeper.

My Fitbit doesn’t record exact mileage, but it’s a lot closer than what runnersmom is experiencing. When I run, I use a phone app (MapMyRun) and then update the Fitbit online with the MapMyRun data.

I tried on the Conquest and did not care for it - I wonder if the Constant would be an option. Sounds like we have similar running styles, fireandrain.

The Conquest was the only Hoka I have not liked. I felt like it was too firm and didn’t feel “Hoka-ish” to me.

Anyone who is a walker, I would REALLY recommend Hokas. Since I’ve been limited to walking, I find the Hokas are really great for that and feel so cushioned.

I second that. I’ve gone on hikes during some trips where Hokas were the only hiking-like shoes I had. I liked hiking in them a lot.

I wish they would make Hokas with a wide width. I’ve tried them on and they felt heavenly, except for my toes being squished together. Darn these wide feet!

Deleted.
