Ugh, more rain! Every scheduled riding day for the last week. Stuck with indoor wattage training which I really shouldn’t be doing in June. I have a limited mental fortitude for indoor cycling and if I use it up now, I’ll never make it through the winter!
Nice brisk hilly walk for me today. Nice to get out after a couple days of cool rain…
Trying to get back on a non-vampire schedule after staying up very late watching 4.5 hour Grateful Dead webcasts from the West Coast on Saturday and Sunday nights…
Second ugh for the rain. I hate running in the rain. Hate track running in the rain even more. 3 mile repeats in the rain tonight - 5:50/6:00/6:30 ((tired!)
Walked 18 holes of golf yesterday, Good thing I’m getting exercise out of it since my golf game has been pretty lousy lately. Oh well, still lots of fun.
This morning it’s a torrential downpour here, and “dark as night” at 7:00 AM. I guess we probably still need the rain, but I wouldn’t mind a stretch of warm, sunny days.
The sun is shining today! Hooray! I hope it makes its’ way to the rest of you who have been experiencing the non-stop rain. I did a fast 5 mile run last night - it sure was hot. And the cat had a successful visit to the vet.
CBBBlinker - I’m glad you’re having fun even if your golf game isn’t “up to par”.
Playing golf today, I’m still a beginner so my game is nothing to write home about. I had a short game lesson last night so I’m expecting to be much better today ;). Ha!
I did another run yesterday with the 1:30 run/:30 walk. I bought an interval timer and I like it a lot. But of course I had problems setting it and somehow couldn’t get the thing to only vibrate so it was vibrate and cow bells! I’m glad the path I was on was not crowded or I would have received some strange looks. I like this ratio for the reasons Gertrude explained but I feel I look really silly starting and stopping so often.
Gertrude, if you are into podcasts, Jeff Galloway was on The Running Lifestyle podcast and that is where I heard about his new recommendations on the run/walk times. Jeff and his wife do marathons with a :15/:15 ratio which sounds really crazy.
I did a little test in June - instead of obsessing over the scale which wasn’t budging, I decided I would measure myself at the beginning of June and the beginning of July. My running mileage was light in June and I ate pretty much whatever I wanted, but I did quite a bit more Pilates work. Lost an inch in my bust, hips, thighs and calves and an inch and a half in my waist. I’m only two pounds lighter. It’s working!
I had Pilates this morning and was so excited to tell my “accountability buddy” trainer - the consistent practice has really made a difference. I count this as my strength work - physically I just feel so much better! My diet is good - I’m just eating way too much.
CBB and deb, I wish I could golf! My dad (who was a terrific golfer) tried to teach me and let’s just say it did not go well.
Wow - :15 / :15 does sound insane - I think I’d get frustrated with that! There is some joy in just running uninterrupted. I’d like to hear Jeff speak though - I’ll look up that podcast.
When I did low heart rate training I would forget to turn the alert beep off sometimes and I would be in a race and drive myself crazy!
Walked 2 miles after work last night. I’m been crazy busy trying to keep up with work because I can’t quite make full days yet with my eyes. Stayed in bed this morning- needed the rest. This has all been very stressful, to say the least.
Yay sabaray!
My before and after pics don’t have me looking like a buff babe. :)) Some places are just never going to recover. I carry everything in my abdomen despite my best efforts. My docs are telling me I was too gaunt and they like me at my current weight. I do not, however (have gained 13 from my low). It’s just enough to make my current size snug. My oncologist wants me to lose another 25-30.
Walked 1.2 at the track this afternoon in 85*. Will go out again tonight after dark. I went out at 11 pm last night and half a mile in, it started pouring.
Yay sabaray!
6 miles. Mother Narure was merciful and lowered the temperature to about 80-83 degrees and provided a few puffs of wind. I am still alive!!! Off to feed starving Mr. B., but for some reason, I’m personally not hungry.
Popping in from the south of France to say hello! To see so many comments I have missed is stressful! Hoping all here are ok…
We have been here a week and leave on Saturday -returned from a two day trip to Paris yesterday where it was 40 degrees Celsius - you can do the math. :). We managed but really needed to take lots of breaks on day two and today we are all collapsed at the pool at my cousins.
I did a beautiful fun run here In town twice (near Cassis) . But everyday has been so busy that instead I have been swimming laps daily (a nice change!) and WALKING - some days my iPhone has recorded 10-12 miles which only accounts for steps when I had my phone on me. That paired with the fact that my relatives eat very healthy (the cousin I am staying with is a marathon runner in her early 60’s - and her body could rival a 20 year old!) standards include vegetables , cheese, bread, fruit and LOTS of yogurt - she is a yogurt fiend!! We have splurged a few times including two fantastic meals in Paris - but honestly I may have lost weight being on the go constantly!
Will be sad to leave of course but always appreciate the home routine as well. Look forwRd to catching up next week!!
Yay, abasket!! Don’t worry, we are doing fine!! Enjoy the remainder of your healthy French vacation!
(Kiddo reports the same thing from Geneva: lots of walking, good food, and blastingly hot weather. 100 degrees plus.)
Abasket, sounds wonderful! Glad you are enjoying your trip!
Edited to add: Zulily has some models of Hoka on sale.
Yesterday morning I just couldn’t get myself in (exercise) gear due to the rain – so I took the dog for a walk later, when it was sunny, and then walked 9 holes of golf in the evening. The Wednesday “9 & Dine” is more relaxed than the League play on Tuesday mornings. It took me until the 9th hole to get my game together, though. Sheesh!
Cybex Arc + weights this morning. About to take the dog for a walk. Beautiful sunny day here – and expected to be the same for the entire weekend. Yay!
Good to hear you’re having a fun, healthy trip, abasket.
abasket- I’m jealous. Safe travels.
I always lose weight when I go to Europe.
Sounds marvelous, @abasket.
Good work out with trainer. The woman I am working with here at summer place likes rowing machines–recommends it over the elliptical or the Cybex Arc. I’ve been trying to increase my time on It and it’s killing me–I can do 10-15 minutes and I’m beat. I try to keep rowing at the speed/pace? (Don’t know terminology) the trainer recommended…
Did walking on the beach this week too–which is harder than I remember. I think changing up exercise routines is good for me.
Enjoy your trip Abasket!
Way to go with your running and Pilates Sabaray.
