I fully support #noshirtsummer! I don’t know if I could pull it off, but I think it’s great. I often see a woman around my age who runs in just her running bra and I think she looks great. I usually run at 5:30 am, and it’s not usually hot enough to give me a good reason to go shirtless.
Maybe I’ll make it a personal challenge to try it at least once!
It was certainly cool enough so I could have ran in a singlet, but I decided to take the challenge, and no one died. I did see a couple of Buddhist monks walk off the trail as I approached them, but I don’t think my bare midriff was the reason.
( I hope I didn’t offend anyone with my description above of my underneath ribbed “tank top” - that term - “wife beater” - IS kind of offensive but it’s the first descriptive word that came to mind - that’s what those types of tanks can be called around here - as I went out to run I second guessed my choice to use those words - apologies!!!)
31.2 miles for my first week back after the eye stuff. Hot, hot, hot. 3.6 miles this morning and it was already 75 degrees and humid by 6:45 am. Wore the striped Stuff Your Bra and a white Athleta skirt. Soaked.
If you feel like napping, go for it, Nrdsb! I actually napped for an hour after my long-ish run yesterday, which is not typical for me. Woke up recharged and asked Mr. if we could go for another run.
I’m in Chapel Hill, NC, helping my oldest D, who needed to have surgery. It is really hot and muggy here–it’s taking me a while to get used to it because it’s even hot and muggy early in the morning. I’ve been at the hospital for the last three days, but the good news is that D is home today. My only exercise has been walking D/son-in-law’s new dog (1-year-old labradoodle–cute, brownish, 20 pounds). The dog is used to long walks, so H and I have been taking her to a bike path near D’s house. It’s 3.2 miles total, which is a good walk except this dog loves other dogs and wants to say hello to all of them! I decided to step up the pace today and didn’t let Lily (dog) say hello to every dog that came her way. Added an extra half-mile by going an alternate route on the path. Both us were tired and thirsty when we returned but I really got my heart rate up today.
Beautiful but hot weekend in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. As a result, I did moderate distances rides, yesterday 37 miles pushing hard the entire time and today 50 miles at a recovery pace trying (at times unsuccessfully) to keep my heart rate below 135. It is tough to discipline yourself to do a true recovery ride (or run) but we all need it from time to time - and I certainly needed it today!
Blankmind, have you tried men’s shoes? I just bought a pair of men’s Bondi 3. They are definitely wider than the ladies’ version and come in more muted colors, but for the life of me, I cannot find any other differences. Ran my 14 miles in them and felt just fine! Used a little Lanacaine Anti-Chafing gel under my toe socks.
Bunsen, I looked into buying men’s shoes after you suggested it. I wear a 7 in womens running shoes, and so far I haven’t been able to find a men’s shoe that I would want in a small enough size.
