Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I started the morning out with a 5.3 mile run. It was a good run and it’s much easier to run in the morning here.

Gertrude-thanks for the info on That Sugar Film. It sounds like a good one to see, but at the same time I don’t want to hear the message! I am really bad with having way too much sugar.

Blankmind-that calf cramp sounds horrible. I hope you are able to find relief.

@C3Baker - it was a powerful film. My husband, whose eating habits I have complained about here several times, spent the day researching nutrition info & building himself a new diet to follow. The film accomplished in two hours what I have not been able to do in 24 years!

While clearing out my “race drawer” (bye, nasty Gu!) I found a couple of samples of this stuff which I got at the pre-Boston expo. I have not tried this remedy for leg cramps, but the Amazon reviews are quite positive.

4.8 miles done this morning. Again, a very early start to get it done. Yesterday morning I took the “puppy” for a long walk – gotta get those steps in!

I also take magnesium supplements – it’s supposed to help with sleep (in my case, staying asleep) and calcium absorption/use, as well as cramps. I do feel as if I’ve been sleeping better since starting with the magnesium, and have had fewer foot cramps.

That’s the main reason I’m taking it as well. Feeling okay after my treadmill run of yesterday - plan to repeat or possibly bike after work today and rest tomorrow. Big pup walk this morning, we all enjoyed the much cooler weather.

Just popping in to say vacation in wine country was wonderful. Lots of wine, all meals out but lots of hiking and walking. Happy to say there was no weight gain. Yay!!! Home for a week before the family heads to Montana for another week of hiking, fly fishing and horseback riding. Hoping to at least maintain again. Wish me luck!

NMinn, if you could avoid gaining weight in wine country, I’m positive you can do it in Montana! Enjoy.

Way to go, NMinn! Sounds like a great vacation.

4.5 miles today. The mornings are supposed to get warmer again starting tomorrow.

This is pure NUTTINESS:

Nuts and nuttier! Any takers to beat him?

Pleasant run at the park earlier today. Felt good to be out there.

Mr and I not want to miss the ANW, so I ran on the treadmill while he pedaled his bike. Did not beat any records, but managed to finish a 5 mile run.

I just realized we almost finished a case San Pellegrino this weekend!!!

I had a good 6 mile run this morning. Running at 5:00am in Shanghai is perfect - the sun is up already but it’s not as hot yet. And no traffic, which is a huge help. Since I have been here, the air quality has been very good. Apparently they had a lot of rain before I arrived and that helped. Overall the air quality in Shanghai isn’t nearly as bad as Beijing and I hope it stays that way.

The treadmill running record definitely qualifies as nutty. Insane, actually.

NMinn-your vacation sounds wonderful! Nice job not gaining any weight. And another fun active vacation coming up? Sounds awesome!

BB-when is your Europe trip?

C3Baker, awesome. My trip is this weekend. I think I will cut my Saturday long run a bit short… I still have a few more weeks until my real race, so I should be in good shape even if I do so.

Got out this morning for close to 4 flat miles - came home and foam rolled and iced. Very, very slow but that’s okay.

50 minute run this morning. This was one of those rare times when I felt really good during the run. I usually have to wait until after the run to feel good

I really like the idea of running for time, blankmind - I think that’s a really good technique when you’re thinking about getting time on your feet. We have a small neighborhood “track” that I went over to - good surface, level, could stop anytime. Just like an outdoor treadmill!

You know, when you go away for a few days and come back to this thread and “catch up” you REALLY see the amazing dedication and activity being generated here - just stellar! Glad to read of lots of activities and few injuries - besides the leg cramps!

Three lovely days on the shore of Lake Huron at our cottage. Water is still too high to run on the beach - that’s a bummer. But got some running in up our hill and into the farm “neighborhoods” near our cottage. Lots of beach walking/hiking (because the water is so high, you have to maneuver around lots of rocks, brush, etc.) each day, pup walks and a oops, found a new-to-us ice cream shop. Water was too rough this round for kayaking - that was a bummer!

sabaray, I really like running for time too. It’s one of the reasons why the Galloway training plans work better for me. The long runs are miles, but the rest are time. I can do the long runs on Sunday, and fit the timed runs in before work during the week.

Running on the treadmill for 12 hours is my idea of hell. I mentioned before my friend who was on the US National Team used to do 50 mile training runs on the treadmill staring at the wall in front of him. He was “different”.

Started my day with a nice core workout.
