I was a slacker yesterday - bad headache and a really bad family situation is finally coming to a close. But, I am going to my very first hot yoga class this afternoon - they had a new student special so for $55 I have an unlimited month. I’ll either love it or hate it - I sense there’s no middle ground there.
Let us know how you like that hot yoga Sabaray! I can’t stand to be hot and in an enclosed space - I don’t think that would work for me!
Sounds like a rotating elliptical and walking would be the best of both worlds. Any machine for an hour is the kiss of death for me. I’m much likely to “repeat” exercise when I’m outside.
I made it home very late last night. I did as much walking in airports as I could to get a little exercise in. Today I’m working from home and just generally trying to catch up. It’s a rest day today with my long run tomorrow morning.
MNK-congratulations! I’m very happy for your daughter and future SIL!
BB-have a safe trip!
sabaray-I’m glad your difficult family situation is coming to a close. I wish you peace.
abasket-I wish someone had done some gardening while I was gone. It’s amazing how not quite two weeks away can end up with so many weeds! I’ll bet you got plenty of exercise with all you did last night.
I have been weeding my blueberry patch this afternoon. We are going on a sunset sail soon on the Intracoastal.
I have to get up early to drive a couple hours to get my exercise tomorrow. I will be painting the nursery for my granddaughter.
Of course, they want stripes!
Everyone have a good weekend.
Would be interested in seeing a comparison of machines that included a Cybex Arc. I much prefer that to an elliptical. I’m sure it burns more calories than walking, and I believe it’s also more than an elliptical.
Another 18 holes of golf this morning, walking. My front 9 holes were quite good, but I sort of fell apart on the back 9. Oh well – great group of ladies, beautiful sunny day … It’s all good.
We are in the midst of some really horrible heat. Expecting temps up to 106-107 in the next few days. Upper 80’s projected as a low!
I rode for an hour this morning at 7:45 and didn’t feel too well afterwards. I will have to get up really early tomorrow to avoid getting overheated again.
Be careful in that heat Nrdsb4, that temperature is brutal!! You may want to weigh yourself before you go on a ride and weigh yourself when you come back to get a handle on how much water you lost. In that kind of heat, it is impossible to hydrate at the same pace you are losing water. And it becomes cumulative over successive days so you want to be sure to hydrate adequately when you are off the bike.
So I got yo play on my playground today. Did circuits of 14 ft run of monkey bars, climbed the cargo net, then crossed over at the top onto the ladder and climbed down, then went under the ladder for arms only ladder climb back to the top and back down, then alternating pull ups and chin ups on the pull up bars, finishing with 1 minute of battle ropes. No rest between pieces. Rested 2 minutes between circuits. Lasted 4 circuits before my arms and shoulders just simply stopped working. Finished with 3 sets of hanging ab work. Boy do I feel old!!
I made it through hot yoga and really enjoyed it. Small class, nice studio, no odors or unpleasant floor material. It was very much like being in a sauna, but there was quite a bit of natural light and I didn’t feel claustrophobic at all. I got there early and spoke with the instructor - we were encouraged to bring water in with us; at certain points in the class she directed us to drink if we desired; at the end we got wonderful cold, wet towels. I felt very good at the end, no tightness in my calves and very relaxed. We chatted briefly as I was leaving and she asked what else I did for exercise; she commented that I was very strong and my Pilates work was evident, so that made me feel good.
Now I’d best go to bed so I can meet my group in the morning. Running with three other women struggling with aches, pain and injury, so we’ll be a ragtag bunch, that’s for sure.
Leave at 6 AM for our Montana trip. Going to try and channel my inner idad as we hike Glacier and some other state parks. Hoping the smoke from the wild fires is ok. Doing some clay shooting, horseback riding and ATV riding, too. Early to bed for me!
Sabaray- what was the class format? Was it like Bikram with distinct postures where you come to savasana after each one or was it more flow? Was it standing series and floor? I’m glad you liked it. I stopped going after I had a couple of incidents where the 105 degrees really got to me. I loved it, though, and felt it was a great workout.
Jetlag got me today. Will have to make adjustments to my training schedule. I planned on running tonight (Sat morning our hometown time), but a long run will mess up our dinner plans. So I decided to wake up early tomorrow when it will still be Saturday at home. Long run or bust!
MOWC- definitely Bikram like. 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises (beginning and end of class), standing and floor, savasana after each floor posture. One of the instructors was taking the class as well, so I had someone to model after that I KNEW was doing it correctly! I am really not flexible so it will be interesting to see how I’m doing after a month of practice.
A little over 4 miles this morning, so some progress, which is good.
Off to Bethany Beach Delaware this morning for a week of sun, surf and fast flat rides. And hitting the gym with my kids who no doubt will have all sorts of advice on how I should work out :D.
6.6 miles done. Started at 65 degrees with some fog- very nice. Got finished before it got too hot. Ran from the house so had some hills and the last few miles got tough.
My daughter said she almost put in her blog entry about competition something about how upset I was last year at the Labor Day 5K when I was coming back from my stress fracture and had a terrible, terrible race and almost got beaten by the Sonic Hot Dog. The only reason I didn’t was because he stopped for pictures! She said, “Everyone has one of those races where you get beaten by someone dressed up like a hot dog!”
