Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Good Lulu scores, Bunsen! I called my local Lulu to ask if they had the Pleat 3 in and they don’t. I wanted to try it on. They hope to get it this week.

Today was supposed to be my 8-9 mile run, but there was a big chance of rain and it was humid and awful. Tomorrow looks better, so I did 4.2 today. I would have liked to get it done today, but I didn’t want to get caught in a storm.

I don’t think anyone can really challenge me for worst eater on this thread. H is at a church retreat for a couple of nights, so dinner last night was a beer, homemade peach ice cream and a cheese stick. I just wasn’t hungry and couldn’t deal with anything else.

" H is at a church retreat for a couple of nights, so dinner last night was a beer, homemade peach ice cream and a cheese stick."

ROFL!!! Sounds great! Lots of healthy carbs (beer), fruit and protein (ice cream), and calcium and protein (cheese stick). I cook/make dinners almost every night, but when Mr. travels, I eat whatever falls out of the fridge when I open it. It could be beer, ice cream, and a cheese stick!

Back from the McFuzz Family 5K - I took first place in the middle-aged suburban mom with bad hips division. D blew away the 19-year-old-college-girl-running-her-first-5K field. Success!

Oh, I don’t know - breakfast today was left-over Chinese food - kung pao beef (no peanuts) and a chicken wing.

Lol, I had spaghetti sauce (made with beef and mushrooms), no pasta for breakfast.

Rode at a trail, got there at sunrise with a big crowd already there. Rode for an hour and 20 minutes, crowds were surprisingly well behaved and everybody did their best to share the trail. Going back to the lake tomorrow where there is a lot more room on most parts of it.

Yay to the McFuzz family race! Great job, and kudos to the winners!

I am feeling better… fingers crossed. I was able to get out into the yard and rip out enough weeds and the neighbor’s ivy to fill the entire yard waste bin. Added a core/weights routine. Run or bust tomorrow!

10.6 miles for an almost 2 hour run. Worked hard to keep it easy and did pretty well with that. Watched my HR closely. With humidity and some hills near the end, it crept up, but still not bad. Had planned to do 9 but felt good enough to go for the 2 hours. It’s amazing how much better it feels when you don’t race your long runs or do them at the same pace you do weekday runs! Had some rain in the last mile and a half, but I survived and it wasn’t hard rain.

Awesome, MOfWC! I’m off to the trail in an hour or so. It always amuses me that pretty much everyone is already done with their runs by the time I open my eyes and roll out of the bed. We West Coasters like to sleep in!

Does iDad not love us anymore? Come back!

Have a good one, Bunsen!

8.5 miles today. It’s really hot here, so I went to the beach because it’s about 10degrees cooler there. Still pretty warm. Even at 8 am it was already 72 degrees. #Shouldhavegoneshirtless!

Good run, blankmind! I wore a singlet (Lulu Swiftly) today because I thought (and was correct) that I might have some rain- and it was 69-70 at the start. Plus- no sun. I really prefer the shirtless runs, though.

Hi everyone. I’m so impressed by the dedication here. I went three days in a row but missed the fourth so the streak lasted three days! I see how much planning it takes to exercise and eat well. I spent Friday in the ER with an out of town friend, here on business, who experienced their first kidney stone. CT shows it won’t be the last. Fortunately I stuck some walnuts in my pocket before heading out so that I would have something nutritious to eat. Started to read the Sugar, fat, salt book and its interesting. My problem this moment is that I have eaten ‘clean’ today but am still hungry. Think I might make an appt with a nutritionist.

Speaking of walking…
I did a fire and glass walk last night. Didn’t burn too many calories but I’m sure I had an elevated heart rate.

busyparent- the way you do something every day is to make it the same priority as brushing your teeth or going to work. It just has to happen at some point. Except for very rare instances (international travel, illness) there is always 15 minutes somewhere in the day.

Ohio- what is a fire and glass walk?

75 degrees. Mother Nature provided nice tradewinds and some scattered clouds. I planned this route much better!! 2 bottles of water, 4 Endurolytes, and 2 Huma Mangoes (yum!) gels.

I dragged my sore, miserable butt for 20 miles!!! Including 2 water/gel eating breaks (I stopped because it is dangerous to eat while running when your nose is plugged from the cold), I averaged 8:40 pace. Not too bad. Phew!! Taperrrrrrrrr!!!

Excellent, Bunsen! I had one Strawberry Huma on my run this morning. I decided the secret to a good gel is that you actually would eat it as a snack if you weren’t running! Good pace!

Thanks, MOfWC! Absolutely agree about gels. I ordered Mangoes, but I will get other flavors as well.

It was a smart move on my part to postpone my long run until Sunday. I hope I will be able to kick this cold completely out of my system by my race!

A side note: Red Hook’s Apple Blond is an awesomely refreshing beer!!!

Ohio, we are all ears: what is a fire and glass walk? BBQ and some wine?

Paging @interesteddad !

interesteddad must have found something better to do with his time!

Nice weekend - partner Pilates session with D which was tons of fun - 5.5 miles this morning. Humid and sticky!

Hope you’re feeling better, BB.

Ohio, do tell!

Being inspired by you all this morning after catching up after a couple of days.

Did your D enjoy your family 5k Gertrude?!

I too am curious about fire and glass walk - the first thing that came to mind was beaching walking for beach glass, but…I’m sure that’s not it!!

Life is a little crazy now. This week will not be my best - all around! Bro and his family from NYC are visiting and staying with my mom 45 mins away in Michigan so will have some trips up there. D from Columbus visiting this weekend and leaving tonight. One bro also close by possibly having surgery. And D2 trying to do last minute packing and we take her for freshman year Wednesday! Sigh. Plus a boatload of work awaits me on my computer and desk that I"m attempting to do in pieces when I have 30 minutes here and there. Hate to say it, but looking forward to NEXT weekend when I can try and piece my house and mind back together!

Ran before the weekend festivities started and went to a local park with D1 for an extended walk on Saturday. The next couple of days I hope to get one run in and then exercise will be loading and unloading the car(s) for the dorm!
