I was thinking of him this morning.
Maybe he just doesn’t want to be friends anymore.
Maybe Idad is having a great fun busy social summer. At least that’s what I hoping.
A short run and tai chi. Have a good day, everyone.
Contemplating what to make for dinner tonight. Looking for inspiration if anyone wants to share.
Don’t ask me cause I’m on a liquid diet today. Raw pasta is sounding good about now. Not eating sucks!!!
Sorry abasket! Been there. I’m glad you’re following through on your health care though!
Deborah T, we’ve been eating quite a few “bowls” - brown rice or quinoa, some type of protein, sauteed veggies, etc. - tonight we are having a salad made of orzo, sauteed shrimp, feta, red onion, cucumber, tomato and a dressing of olive oil and lemon.
We are having either grilled brats (no artificial ingredients, gluten-free, no msg, no nitrites, hormone-free pork) or a london broil on the grill, with a salad.
Yesterday was a chicken shawarma stir-fry.
Hang in there, abasket! The liquid diet is no fun at all. Very glad that you are getting this done!
H is subbing in a golf league tonight. I’m either going down to the clubhouse or making myself a blt. I’m not much of a cooker in the summer.
@notrichenough, did you make the chicken shawarma recipe yourself? I’d love to see it!
Here’s the spice mix I made:
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp allspice
3/4 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of cayenne
Salt and black pepper
This is enough for 2 pounds of chicken. The recipe came from here, which I randomly found by googling:
http://toriavey.com/toris-kitchen/2012/08/chicken-shawarma/
although I didn’t follow the cooking instructions on there, I just chopped up the chicken and some veggies into small pieces and threw it all in the wok with some oil.
It was tasty, although I thought it had a little too much allspice. Next time I will up the garlic and cayenne a bit, too.
Thanks so much! Put it on my Pinterest for later!!
Jumping in. I have been in PT for a pulled back and arthritis in my spine. I have realized it is cheaper to join a gym so I signed up yesterday and meet a trainer tomorrow to develop a plan while continuing the PT exercises at home. Also starting water exercise classes twice a week at the local rehab - only $8 a session.
Thank you for the ideas. The chicken shawarma sounds delicious. If I were to brave it, then I would have turmeric in the house. That would spur on another new dish or two.
Sabaray, your post led me to an article on chow with a bunch of orzo salad recipes. Ingredients like manouri, watermelon, pine nuts, smoked salmon, and pomegranate.
For the meanwhile, I’m working with the taco seasoning packet tonight…
Here’s another chicken shawarma recipe I saw recently and was thinking of making:

I really like the NYT cooking app for ideas. I try and follow the Weil anti-inflammatory diet as much as possible - turmeric is a spice that the use of is heavily encouraged!

Hi everyone! It seems I’m just (barely) maintaining a basic fitness level. So much has been going on this summer, but at least I had a good base to help me deal with everything. It is, not unexpectedly, so hot and humid down here. I walked a couple miles this morning, slathered in sunscreen of course. Went to the gym later and did a three mile treadmill run while watching Serena battle through her match. It made the time fly, for sure!
The chicken shawarma sounds absolutely yummy. Must try. I’ve been on my own for a week (H was traveling), and succumbed to a craving for buttered grits, fried chicken, and spicy chicken sausages. Not all at once, lol, but I’ve obviously been harboring a yen for some old fashioned southern food.
Good luck with tomorrow, abasket! I was so darned hungry for real solid food after my colonoscopy.
I’ve been wondering about you PlantMom! Life throws us curves sometimes - and sometimes it is times like that that our previous “taking care of ourselves” pays off. So glad to see you around again!
Also, just thinking, that people may be heading out or in and out for the holiday weekend, BB am I correct that this is your big, long 26 mile weekend?!
Offering my very best to you for a safe, healthy race with lots of gratitude at the end. Be strong and smile - that is what I picture you to portray!!! (high fiving you from Ohio!!!)
Hi PlantMom! Good to see you! Nice avatar.
Thanks, abasket!! I will survive.
