Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Dang. That doesn’t seem fair. You’ll get fit and fabulous anyway!

Abasket, going for the creative spin on this. Missing out on the electronics deal is really so you can fully enjoy solid food again in a relaxed, technology free atmosphere. It’s a good line anyway, right? And there is TGIF.

@Pizzagirl, my next adventure is going to be Barre. My studio has a kajillion variations on Barre and they all sound fun. I have found that hot yoga takes too long - it’s a two and a half hour time investment and while there are “express” classes, I don’t want to do hot yoga at 6 am. I just don’t. And the “no talking” thing - just isn’t me.

I mean- really! Why can’t they design a tracker that can put us back to sleep! I seriously need thatm

2.5 miles this morning- just to do it. Humid…

Congrats on the age group win, C3B.

This thread is energizing and encouraging.

Saw a friend last night and she commented about me losing weight - so the dieting/exercising is paying off.

Keep healthy all and enjoy the holiday weekend.

abasket – Yes, there was a 15% off sale going on when I ordered my Fitbit from LL Bean, too. I went through the entire order online and was just ready to click “Submit” when I realized the bottom line price included my Bean Bucks, but NOT the discount. I called Customer Service and was told the same thing as you – that activity trackers are excluded. My beef was that there was no indication that they were excluded anywhere during the ordering process. Oh well – on the plus side, it’s a great gadget, IMO, and you’re getting it for a great price.

^^EXACTLY. She said, “the details of what is not covered are in the email you were sent” - but not on the “details” explanation on the webpage? That’s fishy to me. Also, I ended up clicking through because I thought “well, since it said you needed to use our LLBean VISA to get the 15% off maybe I have to actually PAY to receive it”. I clicked through and actually while the price didn’t change, below the price it said, “15% Labor Day Code Applied!!” - when in fact it wasn’t. I tried to drill that to the customer service - “but even the webpage is showing that the 15% should be applied” - her answer was something like, "the webpage doesn’t have the ability to note the difference between what is allowable and what isn’t. " Right…

Lunch time spin class completed! Bring on the weekend!!!

Yoga today and 40 minutes on the Cybex machine. Ready for the weekend.

An hour of swimming this morning – had to go super early because the pool is closed all day after 8 am. Then weights.

I’ll take a moment to rant – I really dislike people who swim with props – fins and hand paddles. The fins cause major waves and interfere with my swimming. I swallowed a mouthful of water today when the person in the next lane shoveled a handful of water toward me just as I was taking a breath. Other than that, I had a nice workout.

I decided that a lot of the reason some people don’t like Hokas is because many of the models come with really, really bad insoles- paper thin and just crummy. I am not one who needs a huge, beefy insole, but just adding a better stock insole from other shoes greatly improves how the Hokas (Huaka is one of the guilty ones) feel.

Wow, I don’t remember props from my days doing laps in the pool (years ago)!! I can understand the annoyance.

I understand that the fins and paddles are annoying for nearby swimmers, but they are an important part of swim training and most master’s groups and other teams (triathlon groups etc) use them regularly. Obviously, much less irritating when everyone in the pool is using them! Nothing worse than getting clipped with someone’s giant swim paddle.

Note to self:
The weather is changing. Remember to wear gloves for outdoor workouts on a cool morning, and bring the hat along.

Deborah- those of us here in the south might kill you for that post! It was 96 here today. Gloves are a distant memory (or- at least a memory from 2 weeks ago when I was in Colorado…)

Wow, yeah, I can’t believe anywhere has weather that requires gloves/hat - alright, I’ll stop whining about the heat and humidity!!! Promise!!!

90 degrees and humid here in Chicago!

We won’t see gloves and hat weather for months. :frowning:

I bought my daughter a pair of Hokas (found them on sale for almost half price). She took one look and said they were the ugliest shoes she’s ever seen. She’s willing to wear them, though. I also recommended them to a friend who was just diagnosed with Morton’s Neuroma, and was happy to hear that her running shoe store agreed with me that they are good shoes for that condition.

Sabaray - enjoy Barre class! The studio where I took this DaVinci Bodyboard offers Barre and Pilates. I have taken 2 barre classes and they are killers!

I am retiring as of the end of the year and so 2016 will be the year of focusing on my physical body - I will have the time!! Right now, I am still doing strength training 2 - 3 x / week, pilates 2 x/ week, yoga every now and then but really haven’t run in a while and am deconditioned cardio-wise. I did a 5K a few weeks back and honestly I ran a mile, walked a mile and then ran a mile. My 2016 goal was to do a 10K and I have a friend who is bugging me to run the Chicago marathon with her. (We can do so via a charity entry, not the lottery.) Is it really possible to go quasi-couch to marathon by next October? Any thoughts on training plans - Higdon, Galloway, other thoughts? My problem is that I go too all-out and burn myself out. Either way, I still need/ plan to re-start at the Couch to 5K level in January, but also have other things in mind (yoga, pilates, barre, water aerobics, etc. to mix it up).
