Yes!! Hokas are so ugly they are beautiful.
Pizzagirl, FWIW, I did a couch to BQ in about a year, but I was a former runner with a 20+ -year streak of zero running.

Long day today. Home from day job at 6:30, trained a client from 7:30-8:30. Did my own parallettes workout from 9:00-10:00 and then took leave of my senses and did sets of pull-ups, chin-ups and dips until 10:30. Then made a protein, fruit and peanut butter shake for dinner. I’m tired lol.
@BunsenBurner, I’m catching up on earlier posts from the last couple of days. Are you running a marathon this weekend? If so, have a great race! The weather here is going to be glorious; hope it is for you too.
Super humid this morning, but got in a bit over 7 - longest run in a while. Building back up slowly.
Bunsen, can’t wait to hear the race report.
Michael, you simply amaze me!
I’ll take a fruit and peanut butter shake right now!!
Best of luck BB - not sure of your city for this 26er but hope it’s more fall like than hot summer like!
PG, I’m not one to give marathon advice FOR SURE - BUT, it would seem to me to have the stamina and mental strength to train for a marathon you need to like running - or the process of building up the run, etc. to a pretty strong degree. Do you feel you have that? Of course, you can always start down that journey and see where your mind and body takes you!
If it was me, I’d have to break it into smaller feats - the 10k, a 15k, a half and so on.
I know PG well enough to tell her that this is a very ill-advised plan. abasket makes some good points. Half marathon would be a stretch goal, but would give you some respect for the distance and a good idea of whether that much running is something you can stand. You would have to cut back on a lot of your other classes, etc, because you simply would wear out.
Jumping into marathon training when you haven’t run longer than 5K and don’t like to train outside is pretty much asking for injury. I generally tell people that they should be able to run 10 miles before starting marathon training.
9.3 miles (goal was 8.3) this morning. It was warm but not horrible. I started before 7am. Didn’t look at my splits and tried to keep the pace easy and HR down. I succeeded and it yielded a much faster pace than 3 weeks ago when I did basically the same course. I have a 5K on Monday, and didn’t want to wear myself out today. Drove right to Sonic for an iced tea and then to Dunkin for a couple of donuts.
6 mile run followed by 1 mile cool-down walk. I’m calling this my first half-half-marathon.
Did my 15 mile long run this morning. Not much I can say about it except that it’s over with. Just one of those days where it didn’t go well. I do feel good that now I recognize that sometimes it just happens and it doesn’t mean anything. I remember the first long run that didn’t go well I was convinced that my marathon training was out the window and there was no way I’d be able to get through it. Of course the next week’s long run was just fine. That’s what I’m hoping for!
Gertrude - I remember doing my first “quarter marathon” as I called it! Congratulations!
Bunsen-good luck this weekend! We’re all cheering you on from all over the country!
Did my 11 miles this morning. C3Baker, I had the same kind of run today, where you know right from the start that it isn’t going to be pretty. I had to use every mind game I could think of to get it done! I think I didn’t eat enough.
On the plus side, no foot or calf cramps, and the TaTa Tamer was excellent, no chafing at all. I am definitely getting more of these!
My goal with all the jogging and swimming is to lose the weight down to my goal so I can be good looking and able to do all those yoga moves I see that are amazing!
Wow, there are some very serious athletic people on this thread.
When I was in Wal Mart yesterday, I was able to purchase a nice Danskin Now full front zip up semi-fitted LS (sleeves have thumb hole) jacket style with front slit pockets but is light weight stretchy material, charcoal grey/heather and black - for $15. Nice addition to outdoor workout as we get cooler weather.
I can handle being told that what I am considering is ill advised :-). Thanks!
You can also decide if it needs to be “all or nothing” PG. Some people are “all or nothing”! Sign up for that 10K - you’ll have to train for it, right? See how that training goes. Celebrate what you do get accomplished and don’t sweat over what doesn’t if it’s not right for you.
@sabaray, what I really find amazing is the diversity found on this board, whether age, geographic region, type of sport or fitness program, whether experienced or new to fitness, all connected by a drive and passion to lead healthy, fit lives and the sharing of interests and passions in such a supporting environment. Every one of us can find something inspirational on this board as we meet the fitness challenges we put before us.
Early morning walk with H–we did a 7 mile loop to the beach and back. The trail was sandy–I think it’s harder to walk. Sure felt like that to me.
2 hour bike ride yesterday - then moved D into her first apartment. Taking another bike ride with H before we head downtown for Round 2 of helping her finish the move. Bringing a three-seater couch into a garden apartment with steps down and no turning radius in a narrow hallway counts as both cardio and strength!
Michael- I agree. The diversity in this group is great. I also think it is important for all of us (and especially the newer posters) to remember that several of our “regulars” have lost 90 pounds or more before getting to where they are today- including sabaray and interesteddad.
Sometimes I think I have it easier than many, because running is such a big part of my life (not that I love it all the time or love getting up in the morning…) that it simply isn’t an issue whether I’m going to do it or not.
I had a “Nashville moment” this morning. A band tour bus (Andy Ross/American Rebel) was parked near where I start/finish my Sunday runs in my town ready to head out. I’ve seen Luke Bryant’s band bus there before, too. That’s more notable.
56 minutes run/walk to recover from yesterday’s struggle. Also did a HIIT workout.
MOWC, you really touch on an important point. Whether new to fitness or an “old hand” at it, it’s important to remember that it’s a process of personal change. For those new to fitness it’s a process that takes time to achieve realistic goals. For those who have been involved in fitness for many years, it’s a process of changing and adapting over time. No one new to this board or fitness should compare themselves to someone who has been at this for years or decades. And those of us that have been at this for decades need to be comfortable about change and adaption as we age. Either way, it becomes a way of life!
Yesterday’s workout was going for a run. This morning’s walk turned out to be perfect timing to see chinook salmon, harbor seals, and blue heron. Tugboats, too. Planning on stretch & strength later this afternoon or evening.
Today’s exercise was a 26.2 mile run. Details to follow.
