Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

@deb922 - thanks for the tip on “Serial”. I listened to 2 episodes today & my run flew by.

Wildlife sighting of the day - small coyote. She was trotting toward me on the sidewalk & veered off into a driveway while I passed, then presumably continued on her way.

Glad you like Serial Gertrude :). I read yesterday that the second season of Serial is going to be about Bowie Bergdahl.

Wow, I think the coyote would freak me out!

I listened to Serial last spring - it was captivating. I should listen to the “part 2” you mentioned Deb.

Coyotes are a fairly common site here in the San Diego suburbs. They are timid & skittish & a lot smaller than you might think. I only worry when I am walking my dog off leash - that they might want to attack him, or he try to play with them, but so far no incidents.

I’m enjoying Undisclosed. It’s by Rabia Chaudry, who brought Adnan’s case to Sarah Keonig. It is very pro Adnan. I won’t disclose too much but they have uncovered some very interesting things.

Now I’m REALLY anxious to listen!

I set a new goal to try to either walk/jog 5 X a week or some mix with swimming. I think that and watching my diet will help me get on a good path with losing a lb a week. I figure I would burn at least 2,000 calories.

Strength training today–with my trainer. I got back yesterday (went to a hs reunion) and am happy to get back to my fitness routine. I admire all of you who keep up your fitness schedules when you have to travel for work!

We just got a new puppy–she is 8 weeks old. It’s fun for the first day and then you realize a puppy is like a newborn!

Congrats on the puppy, Bromfield! What kind? We aren’t ready to do the puppy thing again right now. I’m looking for a 1-2 year old Golden.

Bromfield, good luck! You are brave. Puppies are like newborns… lots of work.

"he was wearing a Michigan shirt from the Big10K race that I did in July. Small world! "

That is the 10K that I’d like to be my “inaugural” 10K next year! We shall see …

That would be a really fun one to do PG! I might consider that one myself since I have a running friend in the Chicago area. Any idea what date it is next year?

Oh, and congrats on the new pup!!! Do share some details!!!

abasket - it’s typically late July - don’t know the exact date

Ok. A 10k in late July in Chicago may not be my favorite timing!!

I loved the first Serial – there was a thread on it in the Parents Cafe.

Today was my long swim and weights, and yesterday was a 6 mile run. Tomorrow will be an easy day. I also picked a huge bag of apples, so I have some baking to do.

The Chinese Prez is gone, I can breathe some relief. My commute is back to the normal 3 hr RT versus the 4.5.

Did some weights today in addition to my usual bus chasing routine. Was almost hit by a car - some cellphone reading dumbo rolled right through the stop sign!

YikesBB, glad you escaped unscathed. Scary!

My birthday gift from my wife arrived. Ultrasound body fat analyzer. Uses ultrasound to measure and calculate body fat percentage but even more interesting is that it will produce scan images that show and measure the thickness of muscle tissue so that you can track changes to specific muscles from diet and exercise. Really neat technology. Now I can really obsess lol.

Wow, that sounds like a very handy device! Your wife has a good taste in gift giving.

My Pure shoes are here!! The uppers are so stretchy and comfy, like wearing socks, even though the shoes look narrower than my Hokas. Can’t wait to let them loose on the Beer Trail.

Popping in to say I am doing a 5k this weekend. Probably will walk most of it, but its a start. I walk 3 miles on a trail many weekends
