Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

10.2 humid miles when I only planned 8-9. I’m happy about getting in the extra since I have a half marathon in 2 weeks and this will lighten up next weekend for me. Ran from the house so had some hills and rollers.

Bunsen- wore the print pleated skirt. That is REALLY a cute skirt. Wore my pink Fellow Flowers GRATITUDE t-shirt with it.

Nice job, MOWC!

How do the pleats hold up after washing? That’s one of the things I was wondering about. I ordered two pairs of shorts from Oiselle yesterday - the long Roga and the Distance. 50% off so $34 for both pairs! Can’t beat that.

Sabaray, that is an awesome deal!

My pleated skirts wash just fine in my front loader. I never use fabric softener with any excercise clothing, and I hang all of that stuff to dry in the bathroom (use skirt hangers for the skirts).

Great job, MOfWC!

Its raining. And the temps dropped. They still held the event but if I am going to be excited about exercise, walking/running in the rain is not going to do it. At least not at this point. Being cold and wet isnt my idea of fun. So I bailed. DH ran it though. Proud of him!

Thanks. Agree that the pleated skirt have done really well holding the pleats. I also have a front loader and hang (on a clothes drying rack) to dry. I am impressed with the quality. LOVE Oiselle, too. I got a long sleeved shirt from Oiselle recently during a sale that is comparable to the Lulu Swiftly and I love it. It’s even softer than the Swiftly. I will get more…

i should know better than to miss checking in here on a daily basis – almost too much to keep up with! 18 holes of golf, walking, on Tues; 9 holes on Wed. Thurs & Fri I exercised by cleaning the condo in Cambridge from top to bottom. Yes, that piled on a whole lot of “false steps” on my Fitbit, but IMO I earned every one of them! I had to clean the first floor because I was hosting Book Club, but then decided to just do the rest of it since we’ll be moving back in a couple of weeks anyway. Fall cleaning is done!

Since Book Club involves food and wine, I decided to off-load a bunch of tomatoes by serving a variation of Caprese Salad. Thanks for the suggestion of Shashuka, though. I may still make that.

MOWC – that Coast Wrap may be my first ever Lulu purchase! Could be just the thing for my upcoming trip to Spain. I’ll check it out when we’re back up in MA next week.

Speaking of being in MA next week – we’ll be taking S to the airport for the start of his 1 year Air Force assignment in South Korea! Yikes!!! Even though we haven’t heard from him all that often for the past 2 years when he’s been in NJ, something about him being half way around the world feels very different.

Sorry to hear you got rained out, jym.

PS Agree with all the others who have recommended listening to podcasts. I got hooked on Serial, but have also really enjoyed the TED ones from NPR.

Sabaray, is Oiselle the place you mentioned does random super sales??? Or factory or something??

Yes- Oiselle has the Factory.

jym, I don’t blame you at all for bailing. Long gone are the days when I will intentionally and knowingly participate in an organized event or even a casual ride if it is raining at the start. It’s one thing to get caught in the rain after you start, it’s another think to start out with the knowledge that you’re going to be in the rain. The only exception I make is if I’m doing multi-day organized rides where I have to get from point A to point B on that day and there’s no real choice. Other than that, one day rides/events just aren’t worth the discomfort and hazards.

Did a great 42 mile ride today. Cloudy and in the mid 60’s. Perfect cycling weather. Casual pace with some climbing and an occasional segment of pouring it on, just to remind us that we can do that if we want lol. Tomorrow will be an off day with nothing more strenuous than lots of good stretching and some ab work.

I’m going to give kudos to all of you and your exercise today. That said, I do have about 13,000 steps in already today. However, about to leave to go to my niece’s bday party (she is 34) where rumor is there will be a pie eating contest that I am suppose to partake it. Hmmm. Here’s the problem when you are calorie conscious…first of all, if we were talking FRUIT pie, I’m all in! But it’s pudding pie I think - with whipped cream. Not a fan of pudding pie. And, there is a barbeque AFTERWARDS. I do not want to stuff my face with unliked pudding pie , not be hungry for the barbeque and then be too stuffed to eat the strawberry bday cake afterwards!!!

Who plans these things?!!!

Maybe I’ll just be a judge/videographer…

I have a front loader and hang to dry as well - so I’ll take the plunge on the skirt. Really cute.

abasket, I got the shorts through the regular Oiselle site - there’s a code you have to enter to save 50% on sale styles but it’s right on the front page of the site. Figured why not?

One week until the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure (This will be my 4th one) and I am slowly recovering from a 2 week nasty bad cold (and a 2 1/2 week maternal visit). I have been running for 4 days but am not symptom free. I would like to do well in this race but participation is more important than competitiveness for this one.

7 miles this morning with Serial episodes 3, 4 & 5 to occupy me. It felt like work this morning, but at least its behind me now. Planning to spend the remainder of the day inside with the AC cranked up & maybe amuse myself with some experimental cooking. I made some delicious muesli last weekend - I think I’ll try some flavored roasted almonds today.

Third week in a row that I got my husband out for some high intensity interval training. He did better this time, doing 5 circuits in a row. The challenge will be getting him to do this the next 2 weekends, when he’s traveling.

I did 20 minutes of HIIT, plus running to the field and back.

I won’t run in precipitation – rain, snow, sleet, etc. That’s why I have a health club membership.

CBBBlinker, we have friends whose son is based in South Korea. They visited him last December. I think one of the toughest things about being so far away is the time difference – it’s so hard to find the right time to call.

abasket, a hint: for someone to win that contest, someone else needs to lose. Hope you are the biggest loser in that pie race.

Took my new Brooks out to the trail for a quick run. Wow, the uppers are so stretchy and breathable! Ran a 5k in 23:34, then slowed down a bit and did a total of 8 miles. Gorgeous fall day, light breeze, 60 degrees, some sunbreaks, a little wind… Wore my Lulu micro pleat skirt, stuff your bra, and a tank I bought at the last marathon’s expo. Perfect outfit for the conditions! Swiftwick socks and my trusted pink Nike cap completed the look.

That’s a very fast 5K for training! Glad you like the shoes.

I probably should have gone slower… but I decided to see how fast I can go, because I have not had a chance to run in such gorgeous conditions in a long time!

In preparation for the colder months, I ordered a pair of patterned CW-X tights!

So fashionable this week people!!!

Good news - I was asked to be the official photographer and videographer of the bday event today so no forced pudding pie for me!! Yeah!

I don’t mind running in the rain. Warm rain is preferable to hot and humid. Running when it’s rainy makes me feel like I’m a real runner.

Other than hot and humid or icy, I’m pretty happy. Even snow is ok as long as it’s not a stinging icy snow. It’s cool to be nice and warm running while the air is cold.

Bike ride today–went out 8 miles and stopped at a local taco place for fish tacos and then back home 8 miles. Went with my kids, who are visiting.

@MOWC–out new puppy is a labradoodle (expensive mutt). She will be small–only 20-25 pounds. Our previous dog was a labradoodle too, but he was 65 pounds. We decided to go with a mini this time.
