Sounds adorable, my Golden weighed 130 pounds. We hope to size down a little with the next one.
Our GSD (also Charlie!) was 110 lbs. When he lost control of his hind legs, I freaked out - I could not get him into the car all by myself. As much as I love big dogs, a 25 lb dog sounds great!
Congras, Bromfield.
@C3Baker - were you the poster who asked about wider shoes? I have wide feet when I run, and I discovered that the new Brooks PureCadence shoes for women (average width) have super stretchy uppers. I read the Nordstrom reviews today, and someone mentioned having no issues with her bunions in these shoes. You might want to give the men’s version a try!

I doctored mine with my old Superfeet inserts.
Combo Pilates/TRX class this morning - good workout!
Sabadog is around 80 pounds, Sabapup around 50. She thinks she’s a lap dog, but she’s still incredibly strong.
Rainy day today!
The Oiselle shirts I particularly like are the Flyte. I just ordered the long sleeved one in violet.
3.5 miles this morning and off to day 2 of a music festival- lots of walking, music, food and beer. Willie Nelson closes it out tonight. iDad- you would love this event.
^^My daughter’s “vicious” pit-bull thinks she’s a lap dog too. The only problem is that as she sits on your lap, licking your face, she wags her tail so hard you get black and blue marks on your thighs. Even her tail is all muscle lol. She has the sweetest, most people and cat friendly disposition ever and really demonstrates how the breed has been given a bad rap when the real problem is bad owners.
Well, I just ordered 2 sale tanks at Oiselle, 50% off sale items! If they fit - great, if they don’t - I am out of only $25.
I’ve succumbed to peer pressure and ordered two new lulu skirts. Can’t wait for their arrival!
Nice working out, everyone. I’m glad for the reminder about the flu shot, though it sounds like this year’s will be a bigger pain than usual
Good job Fall Girl. Add me to the growing group of podcast listeners. I loved Serial. Recently while on the treadmill, I’ve been listening to other NPR shows, a lighter variety show from the Satellite Sisters, and Elizabeth Gilbert’s podcast, Big Magic.
I’ve been running two to three miles every other day, still on the treadmill. Using assorted weight machines and free weights when I’m at the gym. Florida heat…I’ve also been out hiking in assorted natural areas–through sand, mud, and flooded forests–lugging the camera. Lots of wildlife and gorgeous fall flowers with their insect guests. The immediate downside to the outdoor activity is apparent on the skin–sunburn, bug bites, and seemingly permanently dirty feet. Ugh. No amount of sunscreen or insect repellent can fix the latter :o
My sister-in-law gave me a Garmin Vivosmart band for my birthday. It syncs with my iPhone. I was curious whether anyone has one and whether you have found it to be useful or just another gadget?
My last year’s flu shot was NOT a good experience. The pharmacist used a needle that was not right (he realized that after stabbing me in the shoulder but before cleaning the skin with alcohol!). I reported him and his nasty behavior to the health department, but they are apparently too busy, and I have never heard back. So I’m still debating whether I should skip it or get it.
Today’s exercise was trimming dead flowers off the heathers (actually, they are heaths, because “heather is like a feather; heath is the other”) and stuffing the yard waste bin with the ivy I ripped last weekend. Will do weights later in the evening.
For all of you who use fitness trackers, or are thinking of using one, take a look at the Wahoo TICKRx. It’s on the Wahoo Fitness website. It will track all of your cardio and other exercises and has a load of motion sensors built in so that it provides analytics like stride length and cadence, repetitions for exercises. It’s worn like a heart rate strap. There’s a video of its usuage on the website. It just blew me away. All you runners out there may be flabbergasted if this does what it’s advertised to do!
Wow, sounds like a cool device. Will definitely check it out.
I think MOWC had the Vivofit previously. I looked hard at that one and ALMOST purchased it but ended up with the Fitbit Charge HR. I enjoy it and it is great for keeping me moving -I am motivated by those numbers!! The sleep info is interesting to me.
Overall, they are another “toy” or gadget and while most of them cannot replace a gps watch, they can be motivating and keep you on track. I don’t currently track my food but could be doing that as well. I like how things sync nicely with the iPhone.
Neighborhood run tonight. Probably ingested more bugs than miles run on my feet - yuck!!!
I used the Vivofit until I replaced it with a FitBit. I liked a lot of the features of the Vivofit. I think the Vivosmart is supposed to be better.
MOWC, have you seen the Wahoo TICKRx? It’s running analytics look like they would be right up your ally.
I’ve been busy and offline for a few days - whew, what a lot to catch up on! Anyway, I made it safely back from China on Friday and had a busy weekend. Yesterday was a 15 mile run and it went well. I’m 2/3 of the way through an 18 week training program for my first marathon and I’m really thinking that either this training program is too long or I should have signed up for an earlier marathon. I feel as if I could go run the marathon now if I had to. Instead, it’s another 6 weeks of training. I know it’s good for me, but I’m getting a little tired of the time commitment this is taking. OK, enough whining, I will be back at it tonight with a 5 mile run planned.
BunsenBurner-thanks for the info on the wide shoes. I need new shoes but I’m hesitant to try anything different now before the marathon. I will probably just replace my current Brooks with the same version and then look to get something different after the marathon.
I have a question about Body Glide. I have pretty much stopped wearing my chest strap for the heart monitor with my Garmin because of the terrible chafing. Would Body Glide help with this? Or would it interfere with the heart monitor function?
I haven’t seen it. I’m all deviced out for now, though. I’ve got more stuff I wear on my wrists… I run with a Garmin 220 and a Mio wrist HR sensor that transmits to the Garmin and also has its own display. On the right hand is my FitBit Charge with my RoadID attached to it. I have one of those very unscientific magnetic rubber bracelets with the negative ions that is going to make everything OK in my life, too.
This weekend’s eating was terrible. We went to a 2 day music festival and ate at odd times and not the normal food. I had sugar flavored ice, beer, noodles, Goo Goo clusters, more beer, popsicles etc. No weight gain- lots of walking.
4.8 miles this morning. I ran my “Beach Route” in the opposite direction to mix it up a little. (I was going to say I ran it backwards, but realized that could be interpreted as I ran it facing backwards – not sure I’m coordinated enough to do that for that distance!)
Just read about an exercise/wellness motivational app called “Wellcoin.” You log healthy activities (exercise, food, sleep, etc) and earn virtual coins that can be traded in for real gifts like yoga classes, Whole Foods gift cards and lots more. Apparently it’s really only up and running in the greater Boston & NYC areas, at least so far. It’s supposed to sync automatically with my Fitbit, but I haven’t been able to get that to work as of yet. Hopefully that will start working – otherwise I may not be remember to manually enter everything on a regular basis.
Never heard of it, but I just signed up for Wellcoin. I doubt it will motivate me more but if I can get some freebies out of it, why not? I also told it to link to Fitbit, but nothing seemed to happen.
